Tricep/Shoulder exercises with a broken wrist?

Tricep/Shoulder exercises with a broken wrist?

Are there any decent tricep or shoulder exercises with minimal/no wrist involvement? Ive got a broken wrist so i dont want to put any unnecessary pressure on it, but i want to keep the tris & shoulders progressing...

kekekekekeke. no. well theres this machine where the pads rest on your elbows and work your side delts. example:

You could do the same with bands if your gym doesn have machines

Keep working your uninjured arm

Ceaze Keep working your uninjured arm !!

ryazbeck !! Training the uninjured arm helps to maintain strength and size in the injured arm. It's called the cross-training effect.

hise shrugs upper body sled dragging (you wont have to support the weight) other than whats been mentioned, use this as a time to develop something that you usually neglect, ie neck, balance, cardio, whatever.

For those who do overhead shrugs....

For those who do overhead shrugs....

How much weight do you use? Just curious....

95-135 for sets of 20

Sounds dangerous.

timberwolf How much weight do you use? Just curious.... If your shoulder is hurting then this is a movement I would advise against.

i did them once, and Mr. Rotator Cuff was like " what the hell you doin crazy ass cracka! "

christophers i have never had any rotator issues thx benching properly and not much overhead pressing damn you christophers, damn you to hell...

christophers and no its not cuz of gear, since this gym doesnt use gear often at all. ive never seen a bottle of test squat a grand.

Jeg1983 95-135 for sets of 20 .

Dangerous, unneeded, easily replaced exercise < *

ive been using DBs, 45 lbs each

SteveO ive been using DBs, 45 lbs each Arms locked or not? I assume its limited range of motion?

cbrpimp hold barbell with weight on it above head, and shrug. bloody hell

timberwolf Arms locked or not? I assume its limited range of motion? I lock my arms Yea you don't have a large ROM when doing these

timberwolf Arms locked or not? I assume its limited range of motion? not locked, slight bend

sounds scary, i've never even thought of doing shrugs with weight above you. why would you?

My rotator cuffs punch me in the face when I try it. I've had rotator cuff issues since before I started lifting

overhead shrugs scare me

overhead squats scare me more

Mass ive never seen a bottle of test squat a grand. wrong gear dummy

I usually do a few sets of 20 with 95lbs or so to get warmed up before moving on to DB/BB shrugs.

why in the world would anyone do that? unless youre looking to get injured.

Patrick Bateman why in the world would anyone do that? unless youre looking to get injured. some people want to get big.

I do 25lbs each side of a barbell for 20 reps. I don't lock my arms or else it's too awkward to shrug but pretty close. i love these because they don't kill my hands like normal shrugs

christophers i know i feel bad, but nobody listens to me. we have tons of injuries at my gym. but the one thing we dont have much of is rotator issues, and weh ave 600+ raw benchers. and no its not cuz of gear, since this gym doesnt use gear often at all. its cuz we dont bench with elbows out and we dont overhead press very often. most overhead press once every 2-4 weeks. wait a second...overhead pressed every 2 - 4 weeks? How the hell are you supposed to get big doing that?

christophers since when are overhead presses a requirement to get big gutrat? i know of quite a few pro bodybuilders who do 0 overhead pressing. theres 300+ men at my gym who bench 700+ who do 0 overhead pressing. theres many movements that will give shoulder hypertrophy w/o the neccesary risks of overhead pressing. i know, i know, i know. you guys all know someone who has been overhead pressing for 20 years with no problems. and for that one person i know 15+ who have shoulder issues because of tons of overhead work and elbows out benching. please tell me you meant 30 people or I'm gonna cry and move to cali and go to your gym

For those who do overhead shrugs....

Conventional vs Sumo?

Conventional vs Sumo?

Should I be doing both or just stick with one?

powerlifting

so no advantages in switching around now and again?

i cant do conventional, my arms are too short or something

i think sumo is saposed to better mechanically, but it takes alot of practice to get the form down and such. I can pull prettty much the same with both.

thanks man, conventional is a cluster fuck for me at the moment. my gangly legs are all up in there like spaghetti.

I don't know. I'm 6'1, should conventional be easier? It seems like I can lift more with sumo. And it tires out a different part of my back -- am I crazy?

how close is everyone's legs on conventional? My feet are about 6 inches apart, and my arms are right outside my legs.

I put my feet a little less than shoulder width I dont know if I am doing them right or wrong though. I really regret joining the gym I did. And I am just doing conventional as i dont know how to do Sumo at all.

christophers take recorsd on both i pull conv, but i do sumo's for max effort day a lot but i always do speed deads with conv what bodily aspects would be more advantageous for a sumo lift? eg. is it generally suited better to tall guys?

I switch up. I still do some form of deadlift almost every squat/dead day, so to keep from getting stale I do all kinds of variations.

I usually do conventional when training but I've always been able to pull more with sumo.

On DL's I do conv. Seem to be able to get more drive that way, even if I have to pull it higher. On squats I do sumo because it feels more stable and easier on my knees

I have only done conventional.

i squat both and pull sumo right now my conv squat is higher than my wide stance which i am trying to change

I love it.

ajahhahaha wtf bend me over and call me alfred

christophers this is what i think about sumo http://www.playingisforpleasure.com/...ff_Dancing.avi i share the same view as jeff ace of base playing in the background

christophers hes stronger than you, maybe hes onto something http://www.playingisforpleasure.com/...d_12_Hours.avi Apparently not, cuz I listen to that sometimes too

christophers http://www.playingisforpleasure.com/...fe_Is_Hard.avi That guy seems hilarious, and the garage gym looks pretty awesome

my football coaches always taught us to do sumo, so thats how i've been doin it since. today i tried conventional for the first time, and i absolutely loved it, much better than sumo.

I SLDL

I've done conventional when I first started and saw great gains when I switched to sumo, my weight lowered a bit, but it shot back up in no time. I think sumo helps prevent people from cheating. Now, I can do the same, if not more, with sumo than with conventional

found an old pic of me

found an old pic of me

warning its kinda gross First pic you'll notice my gyno..second pic you'll notice the bad acne..its from the nolva and acne is a side ( i had it previously but this increased it a lot ) but my nips do look a lot better.. First pic I had been working out 3 months Second was today (im workin on a tan )

nice man. you actually look like a human being.

looks better, heaps better

so u did gyno surgery?

nope been taking nolva..seems to be working slowly

id also like to add the britney poster was a gift

NoXeN nope been taking nolva..seems to be working slowly isnt there also a another brand thats new but seems to work

nice work!! yoos a tall bastad aintcha!

How tall are you again Noxen?

blue-streak isnt there also a another brand thats new but seems to work im not sure the dr. prescribed this stuff to me, he called it tamoxifen..but i guess thats another name for nolva -i'm 6'2

what the hell is nolva?

an anti e, used in treatment of breast cancer

Why Are You Taking That?

was that really gyno? doesn't look like it to me. nice delts

good shoulder improvement

arms looking way better

Peal an anti e, used in treatment of breast cancer AKA Tamoxifen in the US.

you still look fairly lean... i'm sure you can bulk up a lot more if you eat more?

tize progress not found...you need to start eating kid quiet fatty if youre not an ectomorph you have NO IDEA how hard it is to gain..anyways the nolva has helped my gyno..and it is a form of gyno..theres a type with "tissue" underneath the nipple(puffy nipples, what i had) and type with fat (man boobs) been working out 2 years this june..i took this past summer off basically..with how i eat im happy with my progress, i realize my diet is shit those posters were both gifts

nice job....wtf are you talkin about tize....I see big progress

nice shoulders/arms, lil more build on the chest. you look like you have a decently low body fat, do you just not tighten your stomach for the pics? would imagine you'd see more definition than that. nice progress.

dude i took 3 months off and i eat like shit if you dont "see" a difference then youre just being a dick

tize i was an ecto until i started getting high and eating the whole menu at mcdonalds. i weighed 130 when i was 17. at your height that isnt that skinny sorry

kronik85 nice shoulders/arms, lil more build on the chest. you look like you have a decently low body fat, do you just not tighten your stomach for the pics? would imagine you'd see more definition than that. nice progress. i was..i just have a layer of fat hiding em i still dont have enough mass to make me want to cut though

I actually have to agree with Tize on that one, it just isn't exactly 2 years of progress. Even taking off 3 months, it just doesn't look right. Not trying to put you down, but just want to help you and maybe try to -up your calories -intensity -new split etc, find what works best for you

Dislocated Shoulder

I had a bicycle accident last night and dislocated my shoulder. It popped back in on its own. It hurts like a mofo and it feels like i tore up my rotator cuff. Any recommendations on physical therapy? Know how long it usually takes for something like this to heal?

XsLiCk ouch... i messed up my rotator took a long ass time for it to heal... many months until it felt completely fine. yeah this sucks hardcore. In my 5 years of working out i have been careful and never had an injury and this bullshit happens looks like i wont be doing the things i wanted to the next few months

Mike McDermott Have you seen a doc yet? no, doesnt seem that bad roommate actually had same thing happen to him about a month ago, his was much worse and they didnt do anything for him aside from give him vicodin

this shit sucks. dislocated mine playing football in high school. plagued me for a few years, got surgery last year. still sucks. ..... it sucks.

I've had mine do that same thing many times. What i do is move my shoulder as little as possible for about a week or until it doesn't hurt when i move it. Then when i start doing presses i start out light and go up in weight as long as it doesn't hurt. I don't stretch it hard, i just get the muscles warmed up before I lift.

aenz this shit sucks. dislocated mine playing football in high school. plagued me for a few years, got surgery last year. still sucks. ..... it sucks.

Mike McDermott You should see a doc just to make sure you didn't do something serious like tear your rotator cuff. yeah, maybe i will

3 months off, and i was owned. a thread of my laziness.

lets hope this thread becomes my reminder that its bad to get lazy. feel free to chime in and remind my sorrowfull ass of this. finally dragged myself into the weightroom today. figured id go light, spend an hour to remind my muscles what it means to move. did a mini full body workout, just hitting mostly compound movements. i hate the first day back after a break. i lost so much damn strength! squats-2x8@275. compared to max of 405. and my form bites ass. my hams are so weak. thats a problem area for sure. dl-3x3@315. couldnt hold the bar. compared to 405. surprisingly, the form and weight felt much better than the squats. maybe ill focus more on these, sldl and gm's bench-1x3@275. 2x3@225. max was 335, so not too far off. but damn its gonna take some work from my arms shoulders and back. since my arms were doggin on bp, thought id focus on tris a bit. db bench-2x8@90s. form wasnt hot. elbows started to flare. skull crushers-3x8@60. felt ok, more on joints than muscles. think my body is just tight. supersetted with:db curls-3x6-8@50. easy, but whatever. just curls. really wanted shoulder work, but they were starting to burn from bench. so just did side and front lateral supersets-2x6-8@35. big big drop there. normally use 50-55. def affecting my bench. ended with db shrug-2x8@75. just completely depleted. almost threw up, went home. at least this was a good gauge for letting my body know time to get back into it, and a decent idea of some weak(er) spots. thanks for listening. like you cared. carry on now.

it's been 3 weeks for me I'm scared.

just came back from a long drought and it feels good!

i just came back not so much from heavy lifting, but most any heavy activity at all. although my break was only a month and a half. but after 3 days i've already noticed my muscles are harder and a bit fuller. i'm excited about the future.

ceaze whats happening to you man? recent pics?

Peal ceaze whats happening to you man? recent pics? someone tried to steal my car and the parts to fix it have been backordered

I've been off for six weeks due to working too much, tomorrow will be my first day back. I've probably lost ten pounds

hernia surgery has set me back a few weeks. sucks

update one day later. my traps hurt. my legs hurt even more. its going to be a rough night. i love day 2 soreness

I feel like I want to cut everything but my torso off, first day back from a few breaks. Probably about 3 weeks, worked out for a week before that, then maybe even another 3 weeks before that. Oddly though, my strength hasn't suffered THAT much. I think its mostly because I don't push myself hard enough though. Squats I always get nervous because I don't have anybody spotting me. I switched gyms and they have these queer ass hexagonal or octagonal plates that make it kinda fucked up to do deadlifts Bench I actually feel about the same after incorporating some leg drive and a little arch. I still have to get it down a little more but I tried lots of variations and seem to have found one that worked fairly well for me. I'm more happy with myself for going than pissed off about my losses in strength.

i took last summer off it sucked im hoping this summer wont be like that

i wonder what ceaze drives

nukegoat i wonder what ceaze drives minivan

jonno minivan i'm guessing an older bmw 3 series

im guessing bang bus

i havent done shit all for practically the whole winter. maybe hit the gym handful of times in that 3ish month time. today i went in and no strength loss on main movements...none. i only noticed a 2 rep decrease on my hammer curls. but during that layoff period i did maintain a fairly decent high protein diet so i think thats what helped me most. im feel fresh as fuck too, cns really feels nice, feels like i think i'm almost gonna make some explosive noob gains. im really starting to think extended layoffs from working out are beneficial.

thank christ, dont ever want to drop the weight on the hammer curlzzzz

Wrist weakness/pain

Wrist weakness/pain

I'm finding with bench pressing, skull crushers and BB curls that I can handle the weight fine but after the fact my wrists are sore. My right wrist is worse than my left. I feel like I could lift more if it werent for my wrists hurting Any suggestions or ways to stop/lessen this problem? IBpostnudes

if you were a guy, I'd suggest but since your obviously not, wrist curls, rev wrist curls

I'd suggest wearing some kind of wrist brace to take some of pressure away from the spot that it's hurting you now.

Dragon if you were a guy, I'd suggest but since your obviously not, wrist curls, rev wrist curls hrm, ok.

Davo I'd suggest wearing some kind of wrist brace to take some of pressure away from the spot that it's hurting you now. looking into that already, but I'd prefer to fix/prevent without having to use braces

i have that too if im doing heavy dbs like over 75-80 pounds each when i use them for shoulder military press i can feel soreness in the wrists after in done

~*Pogovina*~ looking into that already, but I'd prefer to fix/prevent without having to use braces If you use them for a couple months, it should take care of the source of the pain as well.

Me: 15 years old (16 in about a week), 6'4", 230 lbs (about 35-40 lbs fat) 1: Whenever I start benching for the day, the first 5-6 reps (125 lbs) cause a really sharp pain my my upper arm. Not the normal weight lifting pain, this feels more like someone if trying to jam a pencil into my arm. My hands are about 20" apart of the bar, and I lower it to about 2-3 inches above my chest. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do about it? 2: I've been benching (stared at 120, now 125, about to go to 130) and curling (started at 60, now 70) for the past 2 weeks, but since about a week ago, I no longer feel soreness in my arms the next morning, though whenever I'm lifting, I feel that I'm pushing myself as hard as I can. Is this normal, or am I not stressing my muscles enough?

I already have possibly the largest legs (calves are 19.5" around) in school, so for the time being, I'm just worrying about my upper body. I go hiking alot with a 50+ lb pack (even if I'm just at the mountain for a day, I still load it up with a bunch of 2 liter bottles full of water), and I feel that that gives me plenty of leg excersize. Though I have been meaning to test my max squat. What is the proper form for that? I know my back should be straight, but should my feet be facing straight forward, my knees extending in front of me, or should they be off the to side, my knees extending more to the right and left?

Thanks, though I'm way too weak in my upper body, the most I ever benched was 165 a few months ago, maybe I could manage 175 by now. Considering my size, I should be benching around 250.

i know my brother used to have trouble with pain in his shoulder when he benched. he switched over to dumbells for a while and that took care of it.

But back to the original questions: Is it normal to have that sharp pain in my upper arm for the first 5-6 reps while benching? Is it normal to stop feeling soreness the next day after lifting for only about a week and a half?

yea, it's normal to stop feeling soreness

I broke my hand...

I broke my hand...

I got into a fight early Sunday morning and punched someone and broke my hand. It's like a boxer fracture. I actually lifted lightly Monday and it kinda hurt. I finally got an x-ray, because I wasn't sure if it was broken or not, and sure enough, there was a small fracture on my pinky in my left hand. I guess what my point is here, will I still be able to lift? Should I take a break? I go to the doctor on Thursday to get it put into a cast/splint/whatever they decide, and he should tell me the amount of time I should be out. What do you guys think I should do? How long do you think I will be out? I'm really dissappointed in myself and the fact that I won't be able to go to the gym. I've made some awesome gains over the last six-seven months, and do not want to see them go down the tube.

You shouldnt fight. Other than that im not a doctor so I dunno

Silver85327 You shouldnt fight. Other than that im not a doctor so I dunno Yeah, I know that much, it was a dumb decision, but I was provoked.

superbri007 sucks man. pics? I'll get the x-rays up sometime this week. It's not terrible, but it might keep me out for a couple weeks.

when I jacked my shoulder, I just did legs

That's not a boxer's fracture. You just broke your pinky. You need to get a cast for that pink asap and stop lifting for a year. Seriously stop lifting until it heals or else it'll never heal.

Soularis That's not a boxer's fracture. You just broke your pinky. You need to get a cast for that pink asap and stop lifting for a year. Seriously stop lifting until it heals or else it'll never heal. ehhh that happened to me. i just said fuck it and kept lifting through the pain and whatnot. my hand looks a little fucked up but at least i dont really care. i mean you can barely tell.... Ignore my previous advice.... just let the thing heal good luck

When I was 17, I fractured my ankle and was playing basketball in my cast 2 weeks later. Animal pride.

Ilyusha When I was 17, I fractured my ankle and was playing basketball in my cast 2 weeks later. Animal pride. shit man i had surgery on my elbow for a pinched nerve and was playin basketball again in 2-3 weeks. doc was pissed at me since it was supposed to be in a sling for a good couple months. maybe thats why my bench is soooo weak

If you don't have insurance, don't waste your money going to the doctor. I spent hundreds of dollars for a doctor to tell me that hand bones tend to heal themselves pretty well, and then gave me a splint that I took off after a day. If it's just a small fracture that doesn't really move, just give it some time and it'll heal itself. Here's what mine looked like. Don't mind the dark line that makes it look like my whole hand is broken. I took the picture with the xray held up to the sky, and that's a flag pole in the background. The fracture is circled on my ring finger. IBFathands

Do things that don't require putting a lot of stress on your hands... even if it's just lower body.

Did you at least win the fight?

Broken Hand Crew! Cucumber: Lay off for at least a month, and maybe do legs or something. It sounds like your break wasn't that bad at all, but if you try and do too much with it you could make it alot worse. I had a break somewhat similar to parvo's, except it was the metacarpal connecting to my pinky, and it was shattered, and the one connecting to the ring finger was just slightly fractured. I had to have surgery, and it took two and a half months before I could even make a fist again, let alone lift without enduring pain on par with childbirth. I'm at month four and a half now, and I'm lifting pretty well, but several lifts still hurt pretty bad. Just gotta take it easy Oh well, at least now my fist is reinforced with titanium.

Brett95GST Did you at least win the fight? Yeah, I sure did. Background information being I'm about 6'4 220 and these two guys are both about 5'8" 150. There was a party at my house, and of course there was a keg. These two guys were in my room and they knocked my brand new bicycle off the wall. I asked them who did it, and they denied it. Didn't say sorry or anything. Then one of them (these guys are brothers, ages 19 and 21) told me to "suck his asshole" and I grabbed him and shoved him into the wall forcefully and told him to STFU and get out of my house. The older brother threw a full beer can and hit me in the head with it, then the younger one hit me in the side of the head, knocked me on my bed, which I jumped off of and hit the younger one in the eye and gave him six stiches. This hit was the one that broke my hand. I then hit the older one in the face about four times with my right hand before someone got him out of my room for fear that I'd do any more damage. I stand in my room for a few minutes and collect myself, then I head outside. I see the older brother still there, his face obviously battered, and I tell him to leave or I'll hit him again. He tried to mutter something, but I wasn't hearing it, so I grabbed him by his ears and head-butted him. The force of my head-butt knocked him down. After this, he left to my continuous drunken shit-talking. That's that. It sucks that this had to happen, but I was just defending myself. I usually don't like throwing punches, but oh well.

Well, it was about a week and a half before I decided to get it checked out, and about 3 weeks after that before I could really use my hand to do light workouts, and I'd say about 2 months before it was 100%.

Sounds like you whooped some major ace...good job.

superbri007 no adamantium like wolverine no care actually, sorry you had to go through all that, but thats still kinda cool, You must be able to knock out in one punch I'll let you know how my reinforced fist works out... as soon as it stops bothering me like an enflamed hemmoroid. Right now, I don't think I could knock out Ashley Olsen without falling to the floor and crying from the fetal position. It's gonna be six more weeks before I can even THINK of even punching a heavy bag. Cucumber, you're lucky you didn't completely fuck up your hand. Throwing multiple punches was what made my hand turn to mush. It was a right bodyshot that nailed the guy's hip that really sealed the deal for me. Hope you heal faster than I am.

inflammed shoulder... how do you know you have one?

and what do you do if you do have one? also, how long should i wait before i resume lifting?

Uh, calm down, relax... 1. Take anti-inflamatory (Ibphrophen) 2. Ice for 15 minutes (with towel) 3. Relax 4. ? 5. Profit You probably could start lifting again in like a couple of days -- depending on how serious it is.

just take a break for a week and see what happens.

are hacksquats a decent replacement for regular squats?

are hacksquats a decent replacement for regular squats?

I just can't hold any decent amount of weight on my back after fucking up my shoulder. how does the similarity in form with dl's stack up? just emphasis on quads rather than posterior chain?

decent yes, but nothing replaces the squat. There good for uses different foot positions to target inner and outer heads.

I am not even familiar with that term.

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...HackSquat.html are they better than say leg pressing? i'd like to get one of those cambered or safety bars for squatting but i don't feel like dropping 300+ plus bucks on one

I thought hack squats worked your quads more, I am sure it is a good exercise to do sence you can't do regular squats but they are not a complete replacement. I would go with a combo of leg press and hack squats.

Also I have difficulty doing this exercise, the bar really rubs the back of my calfs and when it gets to my butt it gets stuck under it and I am not completely standing errect yet. Anyone else have this problem?

front squats

cunninglinguist front squats negative, still have shoulder issues

barbell hack squats put your quads on fire....just make sure you don't neglect your hammies

Ceaze barbell hack squats put your quads on fire....just make sure you don't neglect your hammies thats old school and awesome, I almost dislocated my shoulder doing them though back in the day. Make sure your on the right side of the bar after strapping in. and dont step over

I only do front squats.

Should I start drinking protein shakes? Also, rate my routine and diet.

I just started working out again heavily, but I don't know if I should drink protein shakes. I'll give you my routine and my diet, you let me know what you think . Routine - 5 day switch, HIIT Monday - chest Tuesday - shoulders Wednesday - biceps/triceps Thursday - off Friday - back Saturday - legs Sunday - off This is what I eat normally: Breakfast @ 8-9am: 10+10 Trader Joe's Cereal, 10 grams fiber, 10 grams protein (soy), banana, apple Lunch @ 12:30pm: regular turkey avocado from Togo's or something else remotely healthy (I'm trying to get in the habit of making my own sandwiches to take to school with me) Pre-workout ~4-6pm: sandwich, banana Start workout anywhere between 5-7pm, workout for 45 minutes or so and then do 20-30 minutes of cardio Post-workout ~6-8pm: sandwich or tuna on crackers + gatorade 30-45 minutes later I'll eat another small meal of either a sandwich or tuna I drink about 84 fl oz. of water per day (5 water bottles) including one during my workout. Should I start drinking protein shakes and if so, when?

I'm not seeing shoulder work, but I do like the two leg days, I would train legs in a westside manner or at least some type of CP if you are going to do two days.

ACURA TL-S I'm not seeing shoulder work, but I do like the two leg days, I would train legs in a westside manner or at least some type of CP if you are going to do two days. Crap. I only do legs one day on Saturday. Wednesday is shoulders.

....personally, I wouldn't want to do shoulders the day after arms... cause if my triceps are sore... it would hinder my shoulder workout... (primarily in overhead press movements), I'd also keep chest and shoulder workouts as far apart as possilbe, or just do'em the same day (NOT split them either as in "AM" "PM" workouts).

is boxing good cardio?

is boxing good cardio?

is just hitting a heavy bag around a pretty good workout? i want to do some running but its so boring haha.....hitting a heavy bag around in my garage with some loud music would be more enjoyable to me...but will it do anything? if so....... wheres a good place to get a heavy bag for a good price.....or maybe a slaman thing..or something that doesnt hang from the ceiling

Yeah boxing is awesome. You would obviously have to make it intense for cardiovascular benefit but it would do the job.

tommyortom is just hitting a heavy bag around a pretty good workout? i want to do some running but its so boring haha.....hitting a heavy bag around in my garage with some loud music would be more enjoyable to me...but will it do anything? if so....... wheres a good place to get a heavy bag for a good price.....or maybe a slaman thing..or something that doesnt hang from the ceiling Don't get one of the slam man things...(the one where its the upper torso of a person) They're fucking shitty. I had one and everytime I hit it hard I'd have to re-adjust it. Not stable at all. I'd get a heavy bag...

or you could always shadow box... that works pretty damn well i've heard

Boxing is awesome cardio, if you get a sparring partner it's also a lot of fun. If you aren't a serious boxer you don't have to beat the hell out of each other, and you can still get a good cardio workout.

i love jump roping. seems like it works well

Boxing is easily the best cardio in the world and I've done it all. I hope to start boxing in a month or 2 after I'm done recovering from shoulder surgery. Boxing > all.

Incog91 Boxing > all. this is true, boxing is the greatest sport ever. and yes, hitting a heavy bag or speed bag is a good cardio workout.

How long is a piece of string?

Nick Boxing is awesome cardio, if you get a sparring partner it's also a lot of fun. If you aren't a serious boxer you don't have to beat the hell out of each other, and you can still get a good cardio workout. Give me and my 2 sets of boxing gloves and it will be anything but "not serious"

Yeah, I enjoy it, i just did it for 10 minutes or so, It worked me pretty well. I am going to start boxing and jump roping for cardio every other day and running the other days that I do cardio.

It's definitely good... it'll be better if you learn good form. If you get your footwork down and keep your hands up and stay moving while you do drills or just throw some good punches you'll be aching in less than 10 minutes. Just don't do a shoulder workout the day before going at it.

so I started christophers routine...

so I started christophers routine...

Hey what's up guys, Been a long time lurker on the F&N forums...been lifting on/off for the past 4-5 years. When I started out I was 150ish at 6'. Bulked up to about 200 at one point about two years ago, but right now I'm at 180ish. I started christophers routine last night and let me tell you it was INTENSE. Squats, deads, bench, incline really kicked my a$$ and I almost puked when walking out of the gym. Good times! Will try to post some pics soon.

gat damn boyeeeeee

the first week killed me, now doing all 3 in one day is not as big a deal

how long were you in the gym for?

the day after the first routine really burned, but i've jacked up my bench by 50 pounds, my squats by 80 or so, and my dead lift by 50 since that first day (i'd never really done the 3 so i started out with 135 for each.) now it doesn't hurt as much the next day, kinda makes me sad. any reason why? my body adapts to the new weight? i'm doing the same 5x5 routine as christopher's posted.

Probably about an hour or so...I started off kinda light because I didn't want to jump into super heavy...didn't really know what to expect. Squats 95 x 5 135 x 5 155 x 5 185 x 5 205 x 5 Deads 95 x 5 135 x 5 155 x 5 185 x 5 225 x 5 Bench 95 x 5 115 x 5 135 x 5 155 x 5 185 x 5 Incline DB press 35's x 15 40's x 15 45's x 12

I'm also enjoying this program a lot, I"m in my 4th week and have been seeing really good gains.

I'm doing this program as well, its going really well.

Hope to start this on Monday. Did he mention anything about eating? Im trying to lose fat in the belly and am following his sticky thread on fat loss. 5'4, 150lbs.

I have been doing it for about a month and a half going really well so far.

johnson Hope to start this on Monday. Did he mention anything about eating? Im trying to lose fat in the belly and am following his sticky thread on fat loss. 5'4, 150lbs. eat.

where is the routine posted?

chris, I'd really like to know if you have something else to replace squats? my hips just aren't cut for it. I didn't workout today because the pain came back. Deads never seem to bother me, it's something about all that weight on my back. I see myself in the mirror and form looks dead on.

Is this routine in the stickies?

Kozzy McKoz Is this routine in the stickies? no

deznutz where is the routine posted?

vettedude no Then where may I view this routine?

Chris, i am putting my lil bro on this routine he is 18, 6'2 and weighs 135 and needs to GFH, u think it would be k for me to have him do box squats after a few weeks, and maybee switch up the DL's from luiek sumo to SLDL, whatr about GHR's could i get those in there too for him? Monday Squats-5x5(Do four progressively heavier sets of 5 with the 5th set being your 5RM.) christophers what's wrong with your hips? just pain? sharp pain, radiates to (or possibly coming from?) lower back, and sometimes to groin. I had a long post on it when it occured, and surprise - it came from SQUATS! Put me out for 2 months

Ilyusha :r ofl:

christophers this routine is too hard for ya buddy btw: What does this mean... Incline DB Press-2x12-20 2 sets, 12 reps? whats the 20?

deznutz btw: What does this mean... Incline DB Press-2x12-20 2 sets, 12 reps? whats the 20? maybee 12-20 reps depending on how u feel

deznutz btw: What does this mean... Incline DB Press-2x12-20 2 sets, 12 reps? whats the 20? 12-20 reps

Bad Time

I feel like shit. My shoulder is bothering me again, i have pain in my lower back and my right knee is acting up on me. I haven't been to the gym in 2 weeks, I feel like complete garbage. Anyone else every feel really down like this sometimes? I'm so discouraged.

superbri007 just rest man, it gets better. I've been sick on and off for 2 months, and when everything gets better... (i even got a new mp3 player i wanted to try out monday) I pull a back muscle pretty much limiting me to breathe in 3/4ths of the way to avoid the pain because I've gone to teh chiropractor, put heat on it, took aleve, and rested, I think its recovering quite nicely, but I'm hesitant to go to the gym just yet and ruin all that time resting, or hurt myself further you goto the 'chiropractor'... arn't they bullshit? oh and by the way, A.R.T failed me...(i'm pretty sure that the god damn ripoff artist didn't do it properly.

quit your bitchin, suck it up and get back to working out. ive got some severe sciatica and i still pull and squat religiously....sometimes you just need to out focus the pain...

there are way too many threads made by people with nagging injuries/chronic pain I assume most of you are between 18-25, when you should be at your physical peaks, and youre getting hurt. I think some of you need to reassess the volume and/or form of your exercises.

Injuries can happen to anyone, at any time.

my arms growing much faster than chest and shoulders?

my arms growing much faster than chest and shoulders?

my arms are a good size to where i like it. my chest and shoulder are strong but lack some size. i always go heavy follow up with a superset usually. what do i need to do now to get to that next step and get my chest and shoulder development into high gear? do i need to change up my routine and maybe go light for a few weeks?

work your arms less and your shoulders more /thread

UncleJohn work your arms less and your shoulders more /thread

im the same way, my arms grow faster.

I'm in the opposite boat, my shoulders have always grew faster than my arms, kinda frustrating

its normal for arms to grow faster when you're starting out

swing and a miss

Socrates The chest is a much bigger muscle group than the arms. It would naturally take longer for a much bigger muscle group to grow. This doesn't make sense to me, so your forearms and calves should grow alot quicker than your quads and gluts?

consider yourself lucky...I think it looks better to have large arms, unlike me, my arms are small compared to everything else.

nathanbx I'm in the opposite boat, my shoulders have always grew faster than my arms, kinda frustrating Same....i love my shoulders

arms grow faster than shoulders for me... my shoulders won't budge. upped set's recently and i think its helping. either way, unless it is an extreme case, i dont know if i would ever work my arms less even though they grow faster. i'd take advantage of the muscle gain and have the biggest arms ever rather than just have some proportion.

some max attemtp vid clips and pics *NWS*

did a lecture today on PLing for my class, and had me and my co-facilitators max out in class. make sure you have a divx codec to play these clips. 405 squat by my friend Jason. sure it's not textbook perfect, but still a strong guy nonetheless:http://bboywind.com/jason%20squat.avi 315 bench by me. got stapled by 335 it's pathetic that i'm repping 285 but can't max 335 bench.http://bboywind.com/edbench.avi 205 x 6 seated military press:ibcrosseyed: http://bboywind.com/edmilitary.avi and lastly...NWS pic of me in briefs

leave your damn head on the bench preemo

jesus you're ripped

christophers jason needs to: 1) have one of you watch him from the side, and call depth when he hits it. he didn't hit depth, atleast from that angle 2) place the bar lower, if hes squatting with that stance the bar should be placed lower. all around he looks loose, too, you can tell his shoulder blades arent retracted and he chest isn't up lol same exact words of advice i would give to him after watching the clip

You're a strong dude..

BTW, i need some advice on my freakin lockout. during my attempt today, my elbows started shaking, thats a first for me. and also lockout has been my sticking point lately. i've tried 3 & 4 board presses, DE with 60% band tension, and tricep lockouts, and 335 is still eluding me

yeah i used to have a better arch but my lower back is still an issue

the asian chick is yawning as you bench

Also, maybe you should widen your grip a bit..

AngryGuy the asian chick is yawning as you bench she looks like shes got something wrong with her ear or something. speaking of which, the class is like 75% wimmen. and quite a good amount of hotties too

PreemO she looks like shes got something wrong with her ear or something. speaking of which, the class is like 75% wimmen. and quite a good amount of hotties too It'd be funny if she told you to move over and proceeded to rep 400. what class is it?

although impressive, i think the prob is more at the beginning of the bench.. you didnt have a clean start, so that may have caused the arm wobble. like pur said, drive through it. start controlled then blast, not the other way also should your arms be that angled? id think a bit more in line with shoulders, but im not sure about that.. :/

AngryGuy It'd be funny if she told you to move over and proceeded to rep 400. what class is it? heh funny you ask. at Cal we have a program called Decal, which stands for democratic education at Cal, and basically undergraduates can teach interest-specific classes to other undergrads for a non-letter grades. In the squat vid clip, the other two guys you see including myself are facilitators of the course. i'm the head facilitator (instructor). i also named the course after this forum: Fitness & Nutrition. I figure if i have an opportunity pass on the knowledge of what I've acquired throught my experience, this forum, my classes, and help them out, i should make the most of it. everytime i hit the gym i see guys who looked like me when i first started lifting, and it's rewarding for me to duplicate my results in another individual. i taught this class last semester which was really fun. but this semester, for one reason or another, there's such a disparity in male:female enrollment its krazy.

MCB: molecular and cellular biology

Bio major, eh? Me too.. not pre-med though..

yup hopefully early next year

holy. fucking. shit. are you natural?

transistor holy. fucking. shit. are you natural? yes. and to those who believe otherwise, if i was on gear, i'd be MUCH bigger. i'm pretty lucky to have a small waist and joints, allowing for greater taper for all my muscle groups. its all an illusion. proof? current stats: 5'6.5" ( ), 152lbs

Damn, PreemO. What did you start out at? How long did it take you to progress to where you are today?

started at 110lbs, 3.5 years experience now. this should provide some inspiration to all the lightweights who label themselves as "hardgainers": you can never eat enough. and never use your "fast metabolism" as an excuse for not being able to gain weight.
