No muscle pain the next day means I am not working out hard enough?

No muscle pain the next day means I am not working out hard enough?

Initially when starting back at the gym (after a month or 2), I would feel that really nice muscle pain. However after a week or 2 it would go away and never come back again as long as I routinely went to the gym...does this mean I am not working out hard enough? I want to feel that damn pain.

kingrukus does this mean I am not working out hard enough? No.

ok thanks

What Ceaze said :P Soreness after workouts isn't an adequate indicator that you had a good workout. As long as you're progressing- more weight, more reps, etc- you're doing fine.

if i dont workout hard enough i dont get sore, only goes for my chest, lats, quads and butt. i randomly get sore in my arms and shoulders

Are you taking any supplements? They can aid in loss of muscle fatigue. I really haven't felt any pain after a work out in a few years.

no supplements here. i think i get sore because i dont eat enough because im so poor.

Mike4831 Are you taking any supplements? They can aid in loss of muscle fatigue. I really haven't felt any pain after a work out in a few years. No, no suppliments other than taking Whey occasionally (which I am going to start taking everyday).

ryazbeck no supplements here. i think i get sore because i dont eat enough because im so poor.

kingrukus No, no suppliments other than taking Whey occasionally (which I am going to start taking everyday). Careful, I hear that stuffs toxic to your kidney. Make sure you've done atleast a year of research before starting on that crap.

ralyks Careful, I hear that stuffs toxic to your kidney. Make sure you've done atleast a year of research before starting on that crap.

ralyks Careful, I hear that stuffs toxic to your kidney. Make sure you've done atleast a year of research before starting on that crap. my kidneys *ACK* FAILING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lylemcd I would strongly argue that DOMS is a pretty worthless indicator of muscle damage. Just too much variance there and any researcher who used something so subjective would be doing a pretty bad job of it. Resercher: So, are you sore today? Subject: Yup, my hips feel like I'm a hooker who serviced the fleet last weekend. Researcher (makes mark on clipboard): Yup, he's got that thar muscle damage. Sorry, that's crap. Lyle .

ralyks Careful, I hear that stuffs toxic to your kidney. Make sure you've done atleast a year of research before starting on that crap. Are you serious

Whey protein is dangerous unless taken in VERY small doses.

Well its official...

Well its official...

i am going bald. doc said only thing he would recommend i do if im that attatched to my hair is hair plugs. im guessing the m5aa agravated it and now its on a role. so looks like i will be going to get some clippers soon. fuck it. he said rogain or propecia might help but im not even gonna bother wasting the time and money

Mike McDermott see if you can get steroids for it haha that would be awesome

If you're going bald, just shave off all your hair on your head. I hear women like it.

t3nchi If you're going bald, just shave off all your hair on your head. I hear women like it. thats what i plan on doin, i dont care if the women like it i dont think i will like it though

whaaat, post a pic first

gsteclipse97 thats what i plan on doin, i dont care if the women like it i dont think i will like it though i don't like it but the girls do. you get used to it... and getting checked out more often by girls, especially the cute cardio girls, doesn't hurt. i guess, in the end, all that really matters is that my parents hate it.

Shaved heads > *

Mass whaaat, post a pic first i will later no pics on the comp, its not that noticeable as of now cause i have a thick head of hair but i am losing probably 30-50 hairs a day it looks like when i shower

Ilyusha Shaved heads > * we will see, i know i have a few scars from fights and im white as hell so just another place to add sunscreen

just get on the propecia, if you know where to look you can get it super cheap, like 50 bucks for more than 8 months worth...

Mass just get on the propecia, if you know where to look you can get it super cheap, like 50 bucks for more than 8 months worth... i am mainly losing it in the front, he didnt think propecia would help a ton. i know you can get the powder from ibe. do you know how long it takes to see a difference?

start shaving your chest, and the first thing I noticed was my body hair started growing back at a much slower rate... thats when you know its kickin, for me, took about 3 weeks.

If you have a overseas source, you can get a gram of propecia for 10 bucks... yes thats a 1000 days worth of propecia for 10 bucks

there's very little you can do about hair loss in the front. You can shave it as much as you can and use dht and sebum removing shampoos.

Mass start shaving your chest, and the first thing I noticed was my body hair started growing back at a much slower rate... thats when you know its kickin, for me, took about 3 weeks. the ches tis nice and smooth had it waxed

Mass If you have a overseas source, you can get a gram of propecia for 10 bucks... yes thats a 1000 days worth of propecia for 10 bucks mind sendin me a pm?

how old are you? I started shaving my head a few years ago, I'm 23 now.

MikeTheVike1 how old are you? I started shaving my head a few years ago, I'm 23 now. 23

MikeTheVike1 how old are you? I started shaving my head a few years ago, I'm 23 now. wow, at what age did you start shedding?

evi1eddie i guess, in the end, all that really matters is that my parents hate it. that's clearly the most important thing

Invest in razors and a hat gsteclipse97 i will later no pics on the comp, its not that noticeable as of now cause i have a thick head of hair but i am losing probably 30-50 hairs a day it looks like when i shower Supposedly on average a human sheds 100 hairs from their head a day, the bald people are the ones that don't grow it back.

disblohs that's clearly the most important thing i was kidding

Mass wow, at what age did you start shedding? not really sure, but i thappened pretty quickly. I had a full head of hair when I started goigng out with my ex g/f, and by the time the 8 month relationship was over, I was using a mach 3 on it. I still have hair on the top, but I have a "culdesac" thing going. I also think its thinner than normal in the back. My dad started going bald at an early age also. He hasn't really lost much more since then, so hopefully I'll be the same.

evi1eddie i was kidding

Ginseng and Green Tea Extract

Ginseng and Green Tea Extract

I picked up a bottle of siberian ginseng and some product called revxp(came attached to my protein container), took them before my workout today, and felt like the energizer bunny. I love this stuff. The ginseng is pretty straight forward, but I was wondering if anybody knew of what the revxp is made of and what exactly it does. RevXP: Per serving (3 capsules):Green Tea Extract: 900mg Yerba Mate Extract: 600mg Coleus Forskolii Extract: 360mg "6-pack" (prorietary blend): 350mg - Dandelion leaf and root - Synephrine - Octopamine - 4-Hydroxyisoleucine - Amentoflavone - Piper Nigrum

Someone must know something... Bump

Forskolin is often added to thermos, It supposedly releases cAMP, to boost fat burning rate. Yerba Mate is a caffeine source though I'm not sure.

my understanding is that it has caffeine, theobromine and forskolin in it, but I'm not sure what else. Nor do i know what exactly the ingredients do... it appears that this stuff is marketed the same way other "fast weight loss formula"s are. edit: beaten by the all mighty hotness himself, Timber edit again: my "knowledge" is worthless

Would it be likely that it was the revxp or ginseng that kept me going yesterday? Has anyone heard of the ingredients in revxp being bad for you when taken over a period of time?

The Cat RRRRAAAAAA is officially out of the bag

I started this new job about 3 months ago and just tried to keep a quiet cool attitude and not really discuss my outside interests too much because I really am more of a quiet person... anyways...the pregnant woman openly asked me about diet tips and exercises she can do to help with her pregnancy and weight gain. So...there were 6 girls around when they heard this..and the one girl asked me if I was a PT or certified or something. I said just "no" and the other girl stood up and said I am a bodybuilder. So thats all they needed to hear when they came around and started firing off all types of questions about weight loss and even weight gain. So I'm just spinning my head about all this and don't know who's talking about what. so shit I told them if they wanted 'personal attention' to talk to me later about it too bad I don't run this as a business...I'd clean up

Filmboy44 too bad I don't run this as a business...I'd clean up Start one on the side, contract yourself out to a gym or something.

tell them about a great form of cardio where you don't even need to leave the bedroom, as long as you have a workout partner

its a small office too...there are a few that I'd off the "personal" service too "lets work that fat off honey"

christophers i play PT for a lot of people and dont ask anything for it. for some reason i just like helping people. although i get stuff for it all the tme, including money. i'm not going to say no. 4 tubs of muscle milk + 150$ came today from someone i helped lose 25 lb's and get to 8% i actually woulda rather just had cash instead of that muscle milk but oh well thats rather generous. Most of the time my advice isn't taken...so they keep comin back. they don't want to hear dieting isn't easy and they actually have to work at it for a while before they see results. I don't mind. I like talking about it and helping them. THey aren't hurting me any by not listening so whatever

cavefish Start one on the side, contract yourself out to a gym or something. oh and don't forget to contact the IRS to report any extra income.

evi1eddie tell them about a great form of cardio where you don't even need to leave the bedroom, as long as you have a workout partner I think the pregnant woman figured that one out all by herself

cunninglinguist I think the pregnant woman figured that one out all by herself

I am immune to cutting. :wtf:

I am immune to cutting. :wtf:

I have been cutting for 2 weeks now. I have about one cheat meal per week (usually when I am out with my gf). I have had 2 alcoholic beverages in these 2 weeks. Out of the 14 days, I have been at 2500 calories/day +/- 200 calories. My diet has been basically 40-50% protein, 25% fat, and the rest carbs. I haven't lost a fucking pound. This doesn't make sense..

This doesn't make sense.. how much cardio are you doing?

ummm your body wont even start to lose until its adjusts to the diet, it takes me 4 weeks to get into the burning zone. Also you have been cheating your first two weeks in and drinking? Ummm let us know when you start cutting for real

gsteclipse97 how much cardio are you doing? 1-2 times/week, ~20 mins each time. I'm easing into it..

PurEvl ummm your body wont even start to lose until its adjusts to the diet, it takes me 4 weeks to get into the burning zone. Also you have been cheating your first two weeks in and drinking? Ummm let us know when you start cutting for real I thought that as long as I keep my calories at ~12x body weight, I should be fine. That's what I've been doing, and my cheat days haven't been very bad at all (maybe 3500 calories, or maintenance). What should I do?

Ilyusha 1-2 times/week, ~20 mins each time. I'm easing into it.. i didnt see anything till i was doing at least 4 days at 30 mins. now after about 6 weeks of 5 days 30 mins weight loss has slowed. up the cardio, drop the cheat meals and alcohol if you really wanna see results. if i can do it you can, i havent drank but once this year

Ilyusha I thought that as long as I keep my calories at ~12x body weight, I should be fine. That's what I've been doing, and my cheat days haven't been very bad at all (maybe 3500 calories, or maintenance). What should I do? i would suggest lowering your cals. but thats just my opinion

gsteclipse97 i didnt see anything till i was doing at least 4 days at 30 mins. now after about 6 weeks of 5 days 30 mins weight loss has slowed. up the cardio, drop the cheat meals and alcohol if you really wanna see results. if i can do it you can, i havent drank but once this year Hmm.. well the reason I had alcohol and one of the 2 cheat days is because I had my 4 year anniversary this past weekend.. I will try and up the cardio. I haven't even had that "water weight" dramatic loss that everyone says they have in the first couple weeks.

lower callories more

vettedude lower callories more That's gonna suck.

Ilyusha Hmm.. well the reason I had alcohol and one of the 2 cheat days is because I had my 4 year anniversary this past weekend.. I will try and up the cardio. I haven't even had that "water weight" dramatic loss that everyone says they have in the first couple weeks. i didnt have any dramatic loss at all when i got goin steady, just 2lbs a week or so. try to go at least 2-3 weeks with no cheating to see if the diet etc is working correctly.

Ilyusha That's gonna suck. indeed

gsteclipse97 i didnt have any dramatic loss at all when i got goin steady, just 2lbs a week or so. try to go at least 2-3 weeks with no cheating to see if the diet etc is working correctly. Alright, I'll see if I can do that. I was aiming at 1.5-2lbs/week loss.. and I didn't even get that. It's disheartening..

Ilyusha That's gonna suck. i wouldnt lower them yet, i have been cutting at 12xbw for 6 weeks and its been fine. i think if you up the cardio to at least 30 mins 4-5 days and no cheating you will see results

Ilyusha Alright, I'll see if I can do that. I was aiming at 1.5-2lbs/week loss.. and I didn't even get that. It's disheartening.. you will if you do that, i have been except for the last 2 weeks but that was after a 12lb or so loss. liek i said if i can do it you can i have never been a lean guy and i am on my way.

gsteclipse97 i wouldnt lower them yet, i have been cutting at 12xbw for 6 weeks and its been fine. i think if you up the cardio to at least 30 mins 4-5 days and no cheating you will see results how much do u weigh? u clould be leaner than him, I am at about 228, and i dont think i am eating 2400 cals a day..

gsteclipse97 you will if you do that, i have been except for the last 2 weeks but that was after a 12lb or so loss. liek i said if i can do it you can i have never been a lean guy and i am on my way. I didn't think cardio was as important as diet, if I was pretty serious with the diet (which I think I was). I guess I have to rethink how to lose this excess weight..

Ilyusha I didn't think cardio was as important as diet, if I was pretty serious with the diet (which I think I was). I guess I have to rethink how to lose this excess weight.. i rarely do cardio...

vettedude how much do u weigh? u clould be leaner than him, I am at about 228, and i dont think i am eating 2400 cals a day.. i was at close to 230 when i started now around 215. i have been eating close to 2600+- cals a day. i didnt think the cardio was as big of deal either till someone gave me some insight and next thing you know big difference. i went from 18 to 14% bf in like 6 weeks

i am just recommending what i am doing because from seeing you it seems like you have a little more muscle mass than me but similar amount of fat and body type

gsteclipse97 i was at close to 230 when i started now around 215. i have been eating close to 2600+- cals a day. i didnt think the cardio was as big of deal either till someone gave me some insight and next thing you know big difference. i went from 18 to 14% bf in like 6 weeks I was quite a bit higher than 18% when i started...

vettedude I was quite a bit higher than 18% when i started... so was i, i was at least 30%

gsteclipse97 i was at close to 230 when i started now around 215. i have been eating close to 2600+- cals a day. i didnt think the cardio was as big of deal either till someone gave me some insight and next thing you know big difference. i went from 18 to 14% bf in like 6 weeks I'm ~235 right now, closer to 230. I'll keep going with the diet and try to add in more cardio and see if that helps.

once you get going if you have to cheat once i a while ok, but i would try very hard to not for the first 2-4 weeks so that your body can adjust

Lower calories. or Increase cardio. And what exactly are you eating? Are you keeping a food log or are you just guessing?

I am immune to cutting. :wtf:

Cyclic diet question...

Cyclic diet question...

Is a cyclic diet pointless if you're not going to do "depletion" workouts and all that shit? My fat losss is stalling out so I need to change something up, but I'm happy with my lifting routine (more/less westside) as it is and would rather not fuck with it. From what I understand the whole goal of the cyclic diets is to amplify positive hormonal responses to food... so that even though you may be in a glycogen depleted, caloric deficit most of the time, the relatively brief windows when you are in a replenished, caloric surplus is sufficient to product the hormonal responses necessary to keep your metabolism chugging along... or am I missing the concept completely? Why can't you just manipulate the system through calorie intake and macro ratios? Why all the special workouts and shit? Is it oversimplifying it to just do a repetitive cycle of 2-3 no/low carb days followed by a high carb day? Any links to good cyclic plans that don't require special workouts? I've read a lot of stuff at bodyrecomposition.com since that seems to be the defacto reference for fat loss around here, but it seems most of the people there are doing the depletion workouts and cardio schedules.

Right...but what is the percieved positive benefit of the changes that make up the cycle, be it changing macros, total calories, whatever? I thought it was becuase the cyclic nature of it helped avoid the metabolism slump caused by extended periods of caloric deficit. Is that wrong?

Hmm... shit. Thanks for your help.

the positive benefit as i understand it from cycling is to avoid homeostasis (the survival mechanism). basically the body gets used to the changes and down-regulates any over-expressed enzymes it doesn't need. anytime that enzymes are downregulated due to a perceived surplus, your body is going to be in a catabolic state. that's the point of both carb and protein cycling - in carb cycling, your body figures out either that it's not getting carbs and stops producing so much amylase and in protein cycling, the body stops producing so much protease. if you keep eating a lot of carbs or protein when there are less enzymes to process the substrate, it just takes longer to process (which the body sees as an energy savings). if you vary your amounts of carbs and protein, the body never gets to set a point of energy savings since it cannot predict how much will come at once.

the depletion workouts are simply to lower glycogen levels (and keep them low) since that will be burned before any stored fat and the UD2 is for athletes looking to lose weight (and maybe add lbm) you need stored glycogen to be low to get the glucagon response and insulin is mutually exclusive so if there is sugar, you cannot activate the enzymes to burn fat

this is the point of bulking or cutting, because the success of one is the failure of the other due to the hormonal responses and enzymes involved

Judge strikes down FDA ban on ephedra!!!1

Judge strikes down FDA ban on ephedra!!!1

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7504443/

so it's coming back?

msnbc.com SALT LAKE CITY - A federal judge Thursday struck down the FDA ban on ephedra, the once-popular weight-loss aid that was yanked from the market after it was linked to dozens of deaths. advertisement The judge ruled in favor of a Utah company that challenged the Food and Drug Administration's ban. Utah-based Nutraceutical claimed in its lawsuit that ephedra "has been safely consumed" for hundreds of years. Supplements that included ephedra have been widely used for weight loss and bodybuilding, but have been linked to 155 deaths, including that of Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Steve Bechler. The FDA ordered the substance off the market in April 2004. .

Now to see if this will be marketed well, challenges before chances of manufacturing, etc...

Noice

whats the big deal? ephedrine has been legal all along and I thought that it is better than ephedra, at least in to the degree that the concentration per tab is more uniform.

i read in one of the articles that the ball is in the FDA's court now or something along those lines giivng me the impression that although that judge ruled in favor of the utah company, the fda can still ban it.

meh who gives a shit really....

Dragon whats the big deal? ephedrine has been legal all along and I thought that it is better than ephedra, at least in to the degree that the concentration per tab is more uniform. Tell me how easily you can find ephedrine by itself, without a prescription...

Sgt. Ownage meh who gives a shit really.... no ph no care?

tryfuhl Tell me how easily you can find ephedrine by itself, without a prescription... 1fast400.com

gsteclipse97 1fast400.com tryfuhl Tell me how easily you can find ephedrine by itself, without a prescription... can you not read?

tryfuhl no ph no care? nah, just that ephedrine eclipses ephedra in price/effectiveness

mike so it's coming back? it was never really gone

Sgt. Ownage nah, just that ephedrine eclipses ephedra in price/effectiveness Yeah, but if this pans out, we'll be able to get it straight.. and in mixes as a dietary supplement... I don't think that some people are getting that ephedrine can't be in dietary supplements, or sold straight (easily), either

superbri007 1fast400 sells it by itself, last time i checked....but it was out of stock. now, ephedrine with Guaifenesin is another story Yeah, it's been out of stock for years though

spoofy it was never really gone you on the other hand, have been

http://www.1fast400.com/?products_id=50 i wouldnt call this out of stock. jeez it was never gone, just the products like stacker and xenadrine were and every one makes to big of a deal of the guaifenesin

gsteclipse97 http://www.1fast400.com/?products_id=50 i wouldnt call this out of stock. jeez it was never gone, just the products like stacker and xenadrine were and every one makes to big of a deal of the guaifenesin I know a pretty good deal about supplements, including herbs, I'm not making a "big deal" out of it. Honestly, have you taken eph with and without guaf?

tryfuhl I know a pretty good deal about supplements, including herbs, I'm not making a "big deal" out of it. Honestly, have you taken eph with and without guaf? yes i didnt notice a difference at all. i the one from 1fast has worked just fine for me

gsteclipse97 yes i didnt notice a difference at all. i the one from 1fast has worked just fine for me Sounds good; but this opens up the door (if all goes through) for more cheap premixes with stuff liek caffeine, etc already thrown in with it...

again that is

tryfuhl Sounds good; but this opens up the door (if all goes through) for more cheap premixes with stuff liek caffeine, etc already thrown in with it... true, but after i never liked xenadrine etc compared to my own stack. xenadrine made me feel like shit and my heart was gonna explode

tryfuhl you on the other hand, have been miss me?

gsteclipse97 true, but after i never liked xenadrine etc compared to my own stack. xenadrine made me feel like shit and my heart was gonna explode we could get good home-mixes from 1fast or something tho, if they choose to do one...

Whose in the Loose skin crew with me?

Whose in the Loose skin crew with me?

Lost a significant (100lbs) of weight, and now your stuck with this loose, pudgy, loose skin..... Ill tell you, if you didnt know i lost 100 lbs, you would probably think it was a sack of fat or something. Its a huge thing for me....i dont know if it is for other people who have lost weight. I hate the sag on my stomach the most. But with it also, my muscles dont nearly look defined if i didnt have it.

Take it as a sign that you are meant to be HYUUUGE.

Loose skin crew member since 2003 Once I get down to about 200lbs, I'm gonna look into getting surgery to get it cut off.

im 19 and im on my way to 50 pounds lost total, will i have loose skin

Edghill im 19 and im on my way to 50 pounds lost total, will i have loose skin maybe, its partially determined by half fast ya drop the weight. The slower you lose it, the more time the skin's elasticity has to adapt. you should already have an idea by just looking in the mirror I dropped like 10lbs a month, which didn't let the skin adapt to my smaller body

Dragon420 Loose skin crew member since 2003 Once I get down to about 200lbs, I'm gonna look into getting surgery to get it cut off. Good luck, insurance wont cover it, i have been to a plastic surgeon already...he said it wasnt worth it...but i think it was

i have dropped 15 pounds in the past 6 weeks so i dont know, i dont see any loose yet, im hoping that im young enough now that it will come back.....i guess we will just wait and see, August 6 is my 20th birthday and i want to be down 40 by then

Dragon420 maybe, its partially determined by half fast ya drop the weight. The slower you lose it, the more time the skin's elasticity has to adapt. you should already have an idea by just looking in the mirror I dropped like 10lbs a month, which didn't let the skin adapt to my smaller body I wish i knew about this sooner..... i lost 100lbs in about 3-4 months

deznutz I wish i knew about this sooner..... i lost 100lbs in about 3-4 months DAMN how did you manage that

christophers i just take a bath in preperation H before i'm going to fuck a girl

christophers i just take a bath in preperation H before i'm going to fuck a girl

Edghill DAMN how did you manage that motivation, dedication, girls, parents... didnt see OT F&N until i lost all the weight....... No fast food No candy No pasta I was addicted to pasta....i used to eat it with noodles and butter.... but i cut a lot of food out and limited myself to at least 800 cals...

deznutz Good luck, insurance wont cover it, i have been to a plastic surgeon already...he said it wasnt worth it...but i think it was fdefinitely worth it to me too. all that extra skin just looks bad to me. I really gotta start saving up cause I want to get that and laser eye surgery too. maybe if we get enough of a crew we can get a deal

Dragon420 fdefinitely worth it to me too. all that extra skin just looks bad to me. I really gotta start saving up cause I want to get that and laser eye surgery too. maybe if we get enough of a crew we can get a deal I dont think they would give a group rate...if we all showed up wanting a tummy tuck...

when your skin is loose like that, is it also thin?

deznutz I dont think they would give a group rate...if we all showed up wanting a tummy tuck... if there's enough of ex-fatty's standing around the guys porsche/ferrari/whatever, think he'd be dumb enough to say no?

Dunken when your skin is loose like that, is it also thin? Yes, but its hard to tell between fat/skin........plus i have a distended stomach....

anybody here with lots of extra skin in single digit bf%? I was reading an interesting article about this a few weeks back, let me see if i can find it.

ok well it's not really an article but interesting anyway Dear Tom, Before I ask my question I just wanted to say thank you for all the help your Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle e-book (and the monthly newsletters) have given me with my recent weight losses. Last summer I began a fat loss program using your e-book and it worked so well I got down to 15 1/2 stones (from 19). However, this has caused me a problem: Excess abdominal skin. I didn't crash lose this weight, it came off at the rate of about 2 lbs. per week. Now I'm unsure of whether to carry on, as my abdomen has quite a lot of excess skin - I feel like I've turned into a bloody Shar-Pei! (you know, as in the dog!) Does everyone go through this? Will the skin tighten up? I was overweight for more than 12 years. Am I going to end up needing surgical skin removal? Can you offer me any advice? I'm a medical student in the UK and my colleagues seem determined to proffer surgery as the only option - Needless to say, I would like to avoid that if at all possible... Sincerely, Mike Hi Mike Thank you for your email and congratulations on your successful fat loss Regarding loose skin after large weight losses, here's what I can tell you: 1. Skin is incredibly elastic. Just look at what women go through during pregnancy. Skin has the ability to expand and contract back to normal to a remarkable degree. 2. Elasticity of skin tends to decrease with age. Wrinkling and loss of elasticity is partly the consequence of aging (genetic factors) and also a result of environmental factors such as oxidative stress, excessive sun exposure, and nutritional deficiency. The environmental parts you can fix, the genetics and age part, you cannot. Advice: Get moving and change the things you have control over... Be realistic and don't worry about those things you don't have control over. 3. How much your skin will return to its former tautness therefore, depends partly on age. The older you get, the more an extremely large weight loss can leave loose skin that will not return to normal 4. How long someone carries extra weight has a lot to do with how much the skin will become taut after the weight loss: For example, compare a 9 month pregnancy with 9 years carrying 100 excess pounds. 5. How much weight was carried has a lot to do with how much the skin will resume a tight appearance. Your skin can only be stretched so much and be expected to "snap back" one hundred percent. 6. How fast the weight was gained also has a lot to do with how much the skin will resume a tight appearance. Your skin can only be stretched so quickly and be expected to "snap back." 7. How fast weight is lost also has a lot to do with how much the skin will tighten up. Rapid weight loss doesn't allow the skin time to slowly resume to normal. (yet another reason to lose fat slowly; 1-2 pounds per week, 3 pounds at the most if you have a lot of weight to lose, and even then, only if you are measuring body fat and you're certain it's fat you're losing). 8. There are exceptions to all of the above; i.e, people who gained and then lost incredible amounts of weight quickly at age 50 or 60, and their skin returned 100% to normal. 9. There are many creams advertised as having the ability to restore the tightness of your skin. None work - at least not in a noticeable, measurable way - and especially if you have a LOT of loose skin. Don't waste your money. 10. If you're considering surgical skin removal, consult a physician for advice, because this is not a minor operation, but keep in mind that your plastic surgeon may be making his BMW payments with your abdominoplasty money. (Surgery may be recommended in situations where it's not 100% necessary). Surgery should be left as the ABSOLUTE FINAL option in extreme cases. 11. Give your skin time. Your skin will get tighter as your body fat gets lower. I've seen and heard of many cases where the skin gradually tightened up, at least partially, after a one or two year period where the weight loss was maintained and exercise continued. 12. Know your body fat percentage before even THINKING about surgery. Loose skin is one thing, but still having body fat is another. Be honest with yourself and do that by taking your body fat measurement. This can be done with skinfold calipers or a variety of other devices (calipers might not be the best option for those with large folds of loose skin. Look into impedance analysis, underwater weighing, DEXA or Bod Pod). Suppose for example, a man drops from 35% body fat all the way down to 20%. He should be congratulated, but I would tell him, "Don't bitch about loose skin, your body fat is still high. Press onward and keep getting leaner." Average body fat for men is in the mid teens (16% or so) Good body fat for men is 10-12%, and single digits is extremely lean (men shouldn't expect to look "ripped" with 100% tight skin on the abs unless they have single digit body fat, and women low teens). Except in extreme cases, you are very unlikely to see someone with loose skin who has very low body fat. It's quite remarkable how much your skin can tighten up and literally start to "cling" to your abdominal muscles once your body fat goes from "average" to "excellent." Someone with legitimate single digit body fat and a ton of loose skin is a rare sight. So... the key to getting tighter skin is to lose more body fat, up to the point where your body composition rating is BETTER than average (in the "good" to "great" category, not just "okay"). Only AFTER you reach your long term body fat percentage goal should you give thought to "excess skin removal." At that point, admittedly, there are bound to be a few isolated cases where surgery is necessary if you can't live with the amount of loose skin remaining. However, unless you are really, really lean, it's difficult to get a clear picture of what is loose skin, what is just remaining body fat and how much further the skin will tighten up when the rest of the fat is lost. http://www.fitren.com/res3ask.cfm?compid=18&qaid=163

deznutz i lost 100lbs in about 3-4 months Wow thats extremely unhealthy. If you could go back in time would you do it any differently?

deznutz Lost a significant (100lbs) of weight, and now your stuck with this loose, pudgy, loose skin..... MAN I FEEL YOU BIGTIME

deznutz Yes, but its hard to tell between fat/skin........plus i have a distended stomach.... dud ei have the same problem on my neck/chin its not fat BUT YOU CANT TELL

i dont have it bad

one of my friends has it really bad, dropped 100 lbs in about 6-8 months and now he's around 10% body fat, when he sits down the 6 pack is there but the skin just freely hangs over his shorts

Southbeach diet

thoughts, opinions?

christophers another way to control calories. nothing magical. there is no magic to fat loss.. its more about adherance and consistency. the vast majority of diet books are designed to simply get you to eat less. Okay, so sum up what I need to do to loose weight? Eat less junk, more protien, less calories and carbs, cardio and lifting weights?

soo much reading Okay, I'll get started....

Inferno69 Okay, so sum up what I need to do to loose weight? here's a good summary on what to do to lose weight. It's called Sticky: Basic Newb Guide to Fat Loss ( Multi-page thread 1 2 3 4 5 ) http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=1561528 I can see how you missed it since it was all the way at the beginning of the forum edit: that won't help you "loose" weight though... it will only help you LOSE it

Most effective way to do HIIT while running?

Most effective way to do HIIT while running?

How can i burn the most fat possible while doing HIIT running? I've read numerous articles, websites, and threads, but i'm confused. One site for example said: 5 minute jog (warmup), run 90-95% max speed for 1 minute, slow down to jog until you can do it again. another said to do the same thing except only sprint for 20 seconds... a third of what the first site said. Others still said sprint then walk, compared to a jog. I'm just confused! someone point me in the right direction please. again my goal is just to burn as much fat possible, while increasing stamina/endurance.

My understanding was that HIIT is supposed to be most effective doing sprint/jog splits of about 30 seconds each, but I haven't done it so I can't tell you based on experience. I'm inclined to say that it really doesn't matter as far as burning more fat. Fat loss is 99% diet, and doing cardio isn't the magic fat burner that everyone makes it out to be. Read the fat loss sticky 2nd from the top for good info.

ah ok cool thanks. anyone have any advice from experience? I'm by no means out of shape i can jog 4-5 miles without stopping or being too dead at the end. I'm about 195lb at 6"0 right now and want to get down to 180-185.

unless you specialize in the 400m it's going to be pretty hard to run 90% for a minute. even 30 seconds is unrealistic if you follow up with a 50% jog. you want to be at about 70% for the sprint and 30% for the jog.

t-nation had a good article, but now the link seems to be dead. I have the chart printed out on how to follow hiit. I can scan it if anyone wants.

superbri007 i jog for 45 seconds to 60 seconds, then all out sprint balls to the wall for about 15 seconds that's about what I do. 45 second jog followed by 15 seconds of all out run for your life sprinting.

45 jog/15 sprint: After the 15 seconds of sprinting do you go back to 45 seconds of jogging and then repeat? or go even slower.. or what. and for how many minutes do you do this for?

i go back to jogging. Its hard at first but you slowly build up a longer time that you can do it. Bush77 45 jog/15 sprint: After the 15 seconds of sprinting do you go back to 45 seconds of jogging and then repeat? or go even slower.. or what. and for how many minutes do you do this for?

superbri007 good shit huh? especially when its summer time, 90 degrees and humid do i actually burn more calories/fat when it's hot out? i jogged 10km today (not HIIT) and it was 27* celsius... i was dripping.

unrealii t-nation had a good article, but now the link seems to be dead. I have the chart printed out on how to follow hiit. I can scan it if anyone wants.

thanks alot edmang

I just mix it up to not get bored. My partner and me went to the field and basically found a midpoint in it and sprinted to it then jogged to the end and then sprinted back so it alternated sprint jog same distance. Another that I think it good to do is sprint backwards and sideways. I read an article that said you burn more calories going backwards and sideways basically cause your muscles were not as efficent at it. Makes me feel like more of an athlete also.

thanks alot for the help/advice guys. i'm in a 10km race a week from this sunday and after that i'll start the 8 week program in the "Good Shape" row. Hopefully see a noticable improvement by the time i'm done in july. So a routine like that, mixed with a decent diet i'll be burning fat and building up stamina/endurance?

Is my body just not meant to lift heavy ass weight?

Is my body just not meant to lift heavy ass weight?

when I first started lifting (a few years ago) I remember doing sets of bench with 50lbs (total). now I'm sure a lot of that was form, stabalizers, etc, but even so I doubt it would've been that much higher. Basically my point is that I have very little natural strength. I was always one of the weaker kids in highschool gym class, and I know my dad isnt very strong. Doing squats I could never lift significant amounts of weight (dont do them now because of unrelated knee/back injury). Deadlifts were better, but every once in a while I would hurt my lower back and have to take a break for a few weeks. And now just recently I hit a 5 rep max on bench, and the next day/that night my elbow starts hurting like a bitch. So my point is, I never really had much strength, and when I lift heavy I end up hurting myself. Let me assure you that I dont have horrible form or whatever. So should I even bother going heavy, or just try to be happy with going lighter?

I also have pretty small wrists/bone structure

I was one of the weakest/slowest/smallest kids in high school too. I started benching with 30lb db's. I'm still not nearly as strong as I would like to be, but I'm 50lbs heavier and lifting weight I never thought I would be able to even three years ago... moral of the story -- eat, lift, GFH so your elbow hurts, big fucking deal. You completely glossed over the fact that you hit a 5rm PR. Go easy for a couple weaks, rehab it if needed. If it happens again, figure out what is causing it. Maybe your form is good but you just moved something slightly wrong that time. If you get hurt lifting heavy, figure out when it happens. Don't go to failure EVER if that is when you get hurt. See what I'm saying? Lift heavy enough so you know you REALLY know you are giving it your all... try HST or some other progressive load routine. Maybe that will prevent injury. Bottom line - is it worse to have your elbow hurt for a week or two, or feel weak/small/unconfident/etc for your entire life?

yeah, you make some good points, and that is pobably the road im taking. however, you also brought up another good point. I have a pretty shitty metabolism/fat deposit areas. If I have some chub, I have some bitch tits. And while part of me just wants to eat everything in site and get as strong as possible, another part of me would like to be able to wear t-shirts this summer without worrying about my boobs jiggling around.

What type of lifestyle do you lead? Are you an active person?? The reason I'm asking this is a friend of mine started experiencing some wrist pain after the first couple of months lifting. Basically, what it came down to is, and I hope this doesn't sound idiotic, is that since he had a desk job, and having a relatively low activity level his muscle strength was gaining faster than his body structure causing joint and tendon pain. He remedied this by using a stress ball while at work, and doing some very basic calestenics (sp?) in his apt. Once he strengthened his base structure the pain from lifting all but went away.

And while part of me just wants to eat everything in site and get as strong as possible, another part of me would like to be able to wear t-shirts this summer without worrying about my boobs jiggling around. Not everyone can/needs to eat everything in site in order to gain. You are one of them, as am I. The ones that need to do that typically are naturally very lean and do not carry much lbm. The best idea is to figure out what your maintenance calories are, then add about 500 per day to that. Get some calipers and learn how to measure your bodyfat. It doesn't matter if it's 100% right, just that you do it the same each time you check it. Lift fairly heavy and track your progress for a few weeks. If you are getting significantly fatter, lower cals a bit and do the same thing. The important thing is keep track for a while so you know what your body needs in order to grow without excessive fat gain. *note - this is for gaining muscle, not losing fat. To lose fat, read the fat loss sticky. Do the same tracking, but lower calories until you see results. Choose what is more important to you, because you aren't going to gain muscle AND lose fat at the same time. The best you can hope for is gaining muscle without much fat gain, or losing fat while keeping as much muscle as possible.

The best you can hope for is gaining muscle without much fat gain, or losing fat while keeping as much muscle as possible. I know, I know...this is just another thing that complicates this all for me but yeah, I am modifying my diet now and trying to figure out how many calories I need to be taking in, etc

I know, it's a bitch. The plus is that once you do it for a few weeks, it's easy to do almost unconsciously. You start to know the nutritional content of things you normally eat, and can add up what you need in your head. Writing it down all the time is the best way to be sure, but it's a pain in the ass. edit: Put it in perspective though... you're in college. How much more shit do you do on a daily basis that you don't want to? You do it to get ahead. Working out is the same thing.... well, you do it to get head. Either way, you benefit.

see my edit for motivation

I'd work on lower weights at this time to get your body parts stronger.

Noob cutting question

Noob cutting question

Say when I started cutting at 194 lbs, I tried to take in about 1940 calories. Since I have lost weight (at 175), should I take in 1,750 calories now? (I'll delete once answered)

the real question is why are you still cutting at that weight

gsteclipse97 the real question is why are you still cutting at that weight

eclipse is right, but how tall are you?

gsteclipse97 the real question is why are you still cutting at that weight I still have a lot of bodyfat. I realize I should weigh more, but I don't. Most of the fat came out of my legs/ass, and not a lot out of my chest. I'm 6'0 This problem actually has me worried daily, but i'm just trying different shit until boot camp.

if you weight 175 at 6' and are saying that you are fat you dont have much muscle. if i was you i would try to add some lbm

That is a picture of me at 175. I can feel a lot of muscle in my chest, but I also realize that I am not nearly strong enough. My max bench is around 205 at the moment. I am still new to working out and I see new gains pretty quick, but the problem still stands. Couldn't I cut about 10 more lbs of bodyfat then just keep having gains and get bigger like that? (Sorry, I am so noob at this, it is embarrassing.) I would really appreciate any help I can get. I don't want to fuck this up!

you dont look that fat. you would look a lot more solid if you added 10lbs of lbm over cutting 10lbs of fat in my opinion

I was more under the impression of calories in is more a 11-12xbodyweight, but you do adjust to the weightloss.

gsteclipse97 you dont look that fat. you would look a lot more solid if you added 10lbs of lbm over cutting 10lbs of fat in my opinion Should I up my calorie intake (God that would be nice) but keep doing cardio in the morning for fat loss? (Just like 12 minutes of fast pace walking)

Socrates Should I up my calorie intake (God that would be nice) but keep doing cardio in the morning for fat loss? (Just like 12 minutes of fast pace walking) i would up it. lift and do cardio like 3xweek at 30 min medium pace. my opinion

gsteclipse97 i would up it. lift and do cardio like 3xweek at 30 min medium pace. my opinion Alright, i'll try that. I'll try to bump it up to around 2300-2400 calories a day (shit ton of a protein) and keep lifting.

Ive just recently started lifting and brought back my running routine (going on 3 weeks of progress now). I was dormant from the health/fitness routine for about 2 years. Im naturally predisposed to being an athletically built guy, but it seems that even though im down to 166lbs, I cant get my abs back into the shape they once were. Here is a pic of what they look like now. They can be more defined if I flex, but in thier natural state they seem a bit flabby. Im eating about 3k cal per day, working out mildly and downing about 150g of protein. Im not looking to gain alot of muscle mass, but some gains are good. I havent been cutting at all. Is there a good way to get larger abs instead of just losing the weight around them to show them more? On to the pics number 1 show the place that has some def. and good strength (natrual state in pics) Number 2 show area that is flabby and soft. No matter how much I run or how many forms of situps I do, I cant get muscel to form there. Any thoughts?

your abs ahve fat over them, you want em to be more "defined" you are going to have to loose weight, wich is not gonna happen on 3k cals a day.

vettedude your abs ahve fat over them, you want em to be more "defined" you are going to have to loose weight, wich is not gonna happen on 3k cals a day. cal suggestion for a 166lbs 22 year old who works out the basic muscle groups every day? Run about 2 miles ever other day, too. I know you guys are far more informed than I, and im open to suggestions.

No need to get hostile. Im already getting everything else pretty much right in that guide (sans a few grams of protein)

Just wanted some advice, not someone telling me that its not working. I have a hard time beleiving things that I read on the net and just wanted some informed suggestions.

vettedude is pretty much right. the bottom line here is nothing about your abs, its about the layer of fat over them. now what you knwo you need to do is lose fat, and if you look on the main page it says "Sticky: want to lose fat? L I F T W E I G H T S" and "Sticky: Basic Newb Guide to Fat Loss" so obviously thats where you'd look. if you actually read it you'd know it has everything you need to know and you wouldnt be making this thread

Im already getting everything else pretty much right in that guide (sans a few grams of protein) well think about that for a second. does it make sense that a flat amount of 3000 calories would be some kind of special fat-loss limit for any active guy? Why would the numbers be the same for someone who is 150lbs vs someone who is 250? Your calorie requirements are based on your size, and then fine-tuned based on your genetics. So you start at 11-12x bodyweight, track your results, and adjust up or down from there.

I have no nutritional background, so the things that are painfully obvious to everyone here dont even occur to me. Thank you very much for helping me see. Im going to start on a 1,900 cal/day diet and continue my current "mild" routine.

you could crank up that "mild" routine to "vigorous" and burn more calories!

ryazbeck you could crank up that "mild" routine to "vigorous" and burn more calories! I may do that, but right now im audtioning for a part that requires me to not be overtly athletic looking. I don't want to endanger my chances of landing a part if I can help it.

Dumb question

Dumb question

I recently started a new job and I dont have access to a fridge/cooking equipment. Its bag and box lunches all the way. Since I dont feel like eating cold chicken all the time I was considering makeing my diet staple eggs. Is this a good or bad idea? Lets say I eat 5 hard boiled eggs for lunch everyday whats the calories going to look like? I already eat 5 for breakfast with a slice of toast. I looked on my egg cartons and there is no dietary info so any help would be great. I am thinking of just makeing it a nice dozen eggs that I eat everyday. IE 6 for breakfast w toast, 6 for lunch, baked chicken/tuna/salad something like that for dinner. CLIFFS : how many calories are in a egg with yolk, and without yolk if at all possible.

I did a quick google and found this does it appear accurate to all you f&ners? Egg White 17 calories Egg Yolk 59 calories Fried Egg 92 calories Hard-Boiled Egg 76 calories Poached Egg 76 calories Scrambled Egg 100 calories (includes addition of milk in recipe)

youre gonna get sick of eggs fast

sounds about right

there are between 60-70 calories per egg

crucialkc youre gonna get sick of eggs fast no i wont i love eggs. then again im only eating 2.5 dozen a week right now. Are there any negatives i should be worried about eating so many eggs?

Filmboy44 there are between 60-70 calories per egg Yeah but believe it or not, whenever you cook eggs, the amount of calories increases very very slightly

the protein to cal seems a little low should I maybe throw a can of tuna in at lunch to?

Silver85327 no i wont i love eggs. then again im only eating 2.5 dozen a week right now. Are there any negatives i should be worried about eating so many eggs? you're only eating 2.5 doz per week, and you're talking about eating 7 doz per week. HUGE difference. other than salmonella, which I doubt you'll get, I don't see what could be wrong with it

crucialkc Yeah but believe it or not, whenever you cook eggs, the amount of calories increases very very slightly which is why I said between 60-70...everything is variable

Silver85327 the protein to cal seems a little low should I maybe throw a can of tuna in at lunch to? never can get too much tuna

crucialkc you're only eating 2.5 doz per week, and you're talking about eating 7 doz per week. HUGE difference. other than salmonella, which I doubt you'll get, I don't see what could be wrong with it I give him a week before eggs make him sick, 7 dozens is too much, that can't be healthy. I say suck it up and eat your cold grilled chicken sandwich and other cold foods.

RenaultFreak I give him a week before eggs make him sick, 7 dozens is too much, that can't be healthy. I say suck it up and eat your cold grilled chicken sandwich and other cold foods. i back this

how much protien does an average chicken breast have? a can of tuna?

RenaultFreak I give him a week before eggs make him sick, 7 dozens is too much, that can't be healthy. I say suck it up and eat your cold grilled chicken sandwich and other cold foods. right, and there are more things out there other than eggs and chicken to eat for protein sources.. get yourself a damn tub of protein, some turkey and fish for crying out loud

Inferno69 how much protien does an average chicken breast have? a can of tuna? both are around 35ish

Inferno69 how much protien does an average chicken breast have? a can of tuna? dunno about hte tuna...cause I dont' eat it, but chicken...8oz = 40-50grams

RenaultFreak I give him a week before eggs make him sick, 7 dozens is too much, that can't be healthy. I say suck it up and eat your cold grilled chicken sandwich and other cold foods. i only work 4 days a week 10 hours a day. so im talking 5 dozen a week

alright, so I should get tons of protien a day... do lots of cardio and some shit with freeweights (still need an answer to my question in my other thread) and I'll be loosing weight fast? What about carbs? Should I try eating as little as I can or what?

Silver85327 i only work 4 days a week 10 hours a day. so im talking 5 dozen a week his post still applies

Should I try eating as little as I can or what? you're a long ways off from losing weight fast my friend...first spend a few days in the archives reading about weight gain weight loss and working out and cardio and nutritional facts, diets, etc.

Filmboy44 you're a long ways off from losing weight fast my friend...first spend a few days in the archives reading about weight gain weight loss and working out and cardio and nutritional facts, diets, etc. I've been doing that for the whole weekend

Filmboy44 his post still applies so ya think i should rotate? like 6 eggs on monday chicken breast for lunch dinner. then eggs for b eggs for l the like eggs for b t for lunch etc? im concerned with my food going bad sitting in 100 degree weather for 6 hours rather than the protein i am getting.

Silver85327 Are there any negatives i should be worried about eating so many eggs? you're gonna have alotta nasty farts. edit : on that note, i just farted. and it was pretty sulpherous.

OT: how many workers? dunno there but here if the company has over 10 workers they need to supply a good eating/heating/fridge room, maybe you all should ask for at least a fridge and a microwave. Even hard boiled eggs can go bad after 6 hours on 100 degree weather. I think you should rotate them with another 5-6 different meals, cold sandwiches, cold salads or take in consideration not carrying your own food but eating in a nearby restaurant/dinner.... edit: 5 dozens per week is still too much

3 months off, and i was owned. a thread of my laziness.

lets hope this thread becomes my reminder that its bad to get lazy. feel free to chime in and remind my sorrowfull ass of this. finally dragged myself into the weightroom today. figured id go light, spend an hour to remind my muscles what it means to move. did a mini full body workout, just hitting mostly compound movements. i hate the first day back after a break. i lost so much damn strength! squats-2x8@275. compared to max of 405. and my form bites ass. my hams are so weak. thats a problem area for sure. dl-3x3@315. couldnt hold the bar. compared to 405. surprisingly, the form and weight felt much better than the squats. maybe ill focus more on these, sldl and gm's bench-1x3@275. 2x3@225. max was 335, so not too far off. but damn its gonna take some work from my arms shoulders and back. since my arms were doggin on bp, thought id focus on tris a bit. db bench-2x8@90s. form wasnt hot. elbows started to flare. skull crushers-3x8@60. felt ok, more on joints than muscles. think my body is just tight. supersetted with:db curls-3x6-8@50. easy, but whatever. just curls. really wanted shoulder work, but they were starting to burn from bench. so just did side and front lateral supersets-2x6-8@35. big big drop there. normally use 50-55. def affecting my bench. ended with db shrug-2x8@75. just completely depleted. almost threw up, went home. at least this was a good gauge for letting my body know time to get back into it, and a decent idea of some weak(er) spots. thanks for listening. like you cared. carry on now.

it's been 3 weeks for me I'm scared.

just came back from a long drought and it feels good!

i just came back not so much from heavy lifting, but most any heavy activity at all. although my break was only a month and a half. but after 3 days i've already noticed my muscles are harder and a bit fuller. i'm excited about the future.

ceaze whats happening to you man? recent pics?

Peal ceaze whats happening to you man? recent pics? someone tried to steal my car and the parts to fix it have been backordered

I've been off for six weeks due to working too much, tomorrow will be my first day back. I've probably lost ten pounds

hernia surgery has set me back a few weeks. sucks

update one day later. my traps hurt. my legs hurt even more. its going to be a rough night. i love day 2 soreness

I feel like I want to cut everything but my torso off, first day back from a few breaks. Probably about 3 weeks, worked out for a week before that, then maybe even another 3 weeks before that. Oddly though, my strength hasn't suffered THAT much. I think its mostly because I don't push myself hard enough though. Squats I always get nervous because I don't have anybody spotting me. I switched gyms and they have these queer ass hexagonal or octagonal plates that make it kinda fucked up to do deadlifts Bench I actually feel about the same after incorporating some leg drive and a little arch. I still have to get it down a little more but I tried lots of variations and seem to have found one that worked fairly well for me. I'm more happy with myself for going than pissed off about my losses in strength.

i took last summer off it sucked im hoping this summer wont be like that

i wonder what ceaze drives

nukegoat i wonder what ceaze drives minivan

jonno minivan i'm guessing an older bmw 3 series

im guessing bang bus

i havent done shit all for practically the whole winter. maybe hit the gym handful of times in that 3ish month time. today i went in and no strength loss on main movements...none. i only noticed a 2 rep decrease on my hammer curls. but during that layoff period i did maintain a fairly decent high protein diet so i think thats what helped me most. im feel fresh as fuck too, cns really feels nice, feels like i think i'm almost gonna make some explosive noob gains. im really starting to think extended layoffs from working out are beneficial.

thank christ, dont ever want to drop the weight on the hammer curlzzzz

metabolism question

metabolism question

when you change your diet (amount of food you intake basically), how long does it take your metabolism to adjust? ie. get used to the new amount of food intake and disappear that hungry feeling, because i used to overeat, and now that i've lowered it to the amount i should be eating i get hungry

How many calories are you getting a day and what's your bodyweight

about 2300 and i'm 180lbs

learn to like feeling hungry. when i wanted to lose weight i dropped my cals to prolly 1500 or lower a day (too low). i was always hungry and i just liked it. i didnt really know what i was doing, but i lost 30lbs in a 3-4 months.

i dont know too much, but i know enough to know thats not a good method. you must've lost a lot of muscle i started dropping my cals gradually and coupled it with excersise (a bit of cardio and weights). i've got some upper body fat i wanna get rid of (see: man tits)

ChillerTwist i dont know too much, but i know enough to know thats not a good method. you must've lost a lot of muscle i started dropping my cals gradually and coupled it with excersise (a bit of cardio and weights). i've got some upper body fat i wanna get rid of (see: man tits) 30lbs in 3-4 months is pretty normal actually

try some hoodia (http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=1666) or nicotine (gum or patches). If you want major appetite suppression then get ahold of some bromocriptine.

nathanbx 30lbs in 3-4 months is pretty normal actually I have lost 20 in two with minimal muscle loss.

BTW, you just have to wait for your stomach to shrink. Your metabolism doesn't have as much to do with the hungry feeling as the stretch receptors in your stomach. You will get used to it. It is weird, when I cut and I eat I feel fat, when I bulk and I don't eat I feel skinny.

Ceaze try some hoodia (http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=1666) or nicotine (gum or patches). If you want major appetite suppression then get ahold of some bromocriptine. yeah hoodia works really good as long as you take it with a full glass of water

awesome! thanks for all the replies guys, they've been very helpful. i will look into those products if it becomes unbearable, but i'd rather let nature take its course

Is there REALLY anything wrong with sodium?

Is there REALLY anything wrong with sodium?

It's in my genes to be a salt nut. My mom would salt everything from breakfast cereal to granny smith apples, and I'm pretty much the same (not cereal though ). Anyway, I'm currently cutting and haven't really watched my sodium. I do know I take in a hell of a lot sodium though. I've been searching this forum off and on for the past year and have yet to really see much evidence on too much sodium being harmful to the body. People always point out how high in sodium something is, but I never really hear why that's a bad thing except for blood pressure and water retention. I've also read that it doesn't really affect blood pressure, so I'm not sure how true the hypertension claim even is. I understand how water retention might be bad, but it really doesn't pertain to me at this moment. Does it just affect blood pressure and water retention? Or is there something much more serious? Is there really anything wrong with sodium? I'm not trying to make light of hypertension, but I don't see it as a problem as long as you monitor your blood pressure.

I love salt as well. However, personally, I noticed I dropped a few pounds just by cutting back on the ammount of salt from my diet. It may have been a combo of the salt and the food the salt was on that helped though. (Less chips and pizza)

I'm guessing, not having studied the kidney, the high sodium level decreases water concentration compared to the other side of the kidneys membranes, resulting in loss of water via osmosis just an educated guess though

I thought that sodium stored water? I know if you try to reduce it from your diet that you will be much better off.

christophers posted about this. your body can only hold so much salt and if you go over that level your kidneys just flushes it right out so it really doesnt do anything. and the water retention thing is a myth because there can only be so much in your body, you can only retain a limited amount of water from salt. i think the catch was that the studies were for active people

Christ...

cbrpimp Looks like a lot of mis-info in this thread, does anyone have any legitimate answers? It seems like a lot people have answers, but there doesn't appear to be much real factual evidence to support any claims. That's where my confusion comes from. Everyone points out when something is high in sodium, but they never have a factually backed reason as why that's even a bad thing.

Ok, I wish i had pics to tell the story.... My upper chest is fine, i can see improvements (line down the middle) and my "pecs" developing nicely...my arms are fine, my legs are fine.... The problem comes with the lower chest/ "triangle groin area" It looks like i have ample amounts of fat around these areas....but i am the healthiest eater around plus i work-out everyday and i am petty freakin active walking around.... is cardio my answer?

wont go away until you cut

If you have fat around your belly, you need to lose it, and you can't spot reduce. Eating healthy != weight loss. Cardio, eat less, and try some abdominal tightening exercises (google).

gyno?

Groin gyno.

2lowintegra gyno? YES! gyno on his abs! BRILLIANT!lc

jonno YES! gyno on his abs! BRILLIANT!lc that's my excuse

ralyks Cardio, eat less, and try some abdominal tightening exercises (google). ^^^ By 'lower chest', do you mean abdominals/obliques? It sounds like you need cardio and core exercises.

do squats on an exercise ball-its a wonderful core exercise =/

You've been on F&N forever dude, would've thought you'd know by now that the only way to get rid of fat is to cut it (and belly / lower torso fat is the last to go).
