Flax or Fish Oil

Flax or Fish Oil

what up.... Ok I've been reading a lot about both fish and flaxseed... their benefits and what not. It goes back and forth saying flax is better...and fish is better... In your experience's what do you like better fish or flax... both health and cutting results.

take both

fish is higher omega 3 levels flax is more balanced 3,6,9

SteveO fish is higher omega 3 levels flax is more balanced 3,6,9 taking both at same time or alternate it....

Like christophers said if you HAVE to pick one make it Fish Oil, if not take both.

what about them fish burpss

QuePuto what about them fish burpss take em before bed

QuePuto what about them fish burpss or freeze them

QuePuto what about them fish burpss The ones I get have this special coating on them so they don't completely disolve until they reach the lower intestine (supposidly). I forget the name of the coating, but I got this big bottle of them at Sam's Club. Although I never had any fish stank from the uncoated capsules.

CrackSeed I get the enteric coated ones at Sam's Club, too. the enteric coating smells kinda like marshmallows but i buy the omega complex from Sam's club: Borage, Flax, Fish, and Safflower Oils all in one capsule I take two in the morning and two before bed, i usually get one or two fish burps about 30 minutes after taking em

CrackSeed I get the enteric coated ones at Sam's Club, too. Sam's club eh... damn pay for another membership....hmmm

christophers if you pick one, then fish oil

Been on Fish oil for almost a month now and have yet to get these "fish burps"

Im new to this fish/flax stuff...how is this for the good balance of intake... take 6 fish gelcaps and 6 flax caps daily... too little too much.

Flax Seed Benefits vs. Fish Oil Benefits Flax seed oil benefits are numerous, and as such flax seed has been recommended in recent years as an essential part of a healthy diet. However, new evidence has emerged that although flaxseed is important, fish oil might be an even better source of Omega-3 fatty acids. What are flax seed oil benefits and how can it help you? Flax seed, also known as linseed, is an ancient crop that has been harvested all over the world. Its therapeutic properties have long been touted, as ancient peoples used it to soothe abdominal pains and aid digestion. Flax seed oil contains Omega-3 fatty acids, which have incredible immunity boosting qualities, meaning they can help your body fight off illness and disease. They also contain anti-inflammatory properties which may help manage depression, cancer and even slow the aging process. Most people are Omega-3 deficient, which is why it is so important to supplement your diet with them. The main flax seed oil benefits lie in its ALA fatty acid content. However, in order to be optimally effective ALA must be converted to long-chain Omega-3 fats in the body, and many people, especially the elderly, do not have efficient internal mechanisms to achieve this. What is a better source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids? Recent studies have shown that fish oil may be a better source for the Omega-3 fatty acids that your body needs. Fish oil, harvested from cold water fish, contains the fatty acids DHA and EPA. Research points to the fact that DHA and EPA have more therapeutic value than ALA found in flax seed oil. Also, DHA and EPA do not have to be converted, as they are already long-chain Omega-3 fats and are easily absorbed in the body. So the Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil are better for your health than those found in flax seed oil, because they are more easily utilized by your body and are more powerful and therapeutic. You can increase flax seed oil benefits by substituting or adding fish oil to your diet. How Can You Find A High Quality Fish Oil Product? Only fish oils contain the special benefits of DHA and EPA Omega-3 fatty acids. So it's important that you find a high quality fish oil product so you can get the maximum health benefits. Some things to keep in mind: 1) Natural fish oils are oftentimes contaminated with heavy metals such as mercury. 2) Most fish oil in capsule form does not come from the country where it is harvested, meaning there are often additives to make sure it stays fresh through all the extra handling and processing. 3) Many fish oils contain low levels of DHA, which is the most important component. Therefore, you need to find a pure fish oil product that does not have any of the drawbacks mentioned above.

Whose in the Loose skin crew with me?

Whose in the Loose skin crew with me?

Lost a significant (100lbs) of weight, and now your stuck with this loose, pudgy, loose skin..... Ill tell you, if you didnt know i lost 100 lbs, you would probably think it was a sack of fat or something. Its a huge thing for me....i dont know if it is for other people who have lost weight. I hate the sag on my stomach the most. But with it also, my muscles dont nearly look defined if i didnt have it.

Take it as a sign that you are meant to be HYUUUGE.

Loose skin crew member since 2003 Once I get down to about 200lbs, I'm gonna look into getting surgery to get it cut off.

im 19 and im on my way to 50 pounds lost total, will i have loose skin

Edghill im 19 and im on my way to 50 pounds lost total, will i have loose skin maybe, its partially determined by half fast ya drop the weight. The slower you lose it, the more time the skin's elasticity has to adapt. you should already have an idea by just looking in the mirror I dropped like 10lbs a month, which didn't let the skin adapt to my smaller body

Dragon420 Loose skin crew member since 2003 Once I get down to about 200lbs, I'm gonna look into getting surgery to get it cut off. Good luck, insurance wont cover it, i have been to a plastic surgeon already...he said it wasnt worth it...but i think it was

i have dropped 15 pounds in the past 6 weeks so i dont know, i dont see any loose yet, im hoping that im young enough now that it will come back.....i guess we will just wait and see, August 6 is my 20th birthday and i want to be down 40 by then

deznutz I wish i knew about this sooner..... i lost 100lbs in about 3-4 months DAMN how did you manage that

christophers i just take a bath in preperation H before i'm going to fuck a girl

christophers i just take a bath in preperation H before i'm going to fuck a girl

Edghill DAMN how did you manage that motivation, dedication, girls, parents... didnt see OT F&N until i lost all the weight....... No fast food No candy No pasta I was addicted to pasta....i used to eat it with noodles and butter.... but i cut a lot of food out and limited myself to at least 800 cals...

deznutz Good luck, insurance wont cover it, i have been to a plastic surgeon already...he said it wasnt worth it...but i think it was fdefinitely worth it to me too. all that extra skin just looks bad to me. I really gotta start saving up cause I want to get that and laser eye surgery too. maybe if we get enough of a crew we can get a deal

Dragon420 fdefinitely worth it to me too. all that extra skin just looks bad to me. I really gotta start saving up cause I want to get that and laser eye surgery too. maybe if we get enough of a crew we can get a deal I dont think they would give a group rate...if we all showed up wanting a tummy tuck...

when your skin is loose like that, is it also thin?

deznutz I dont think they would give a group rate...if we all showed up wanting a tummy tuck... if there's enough of ex-fatty's standing around the guys porsche/ferrari/whatever, think he'd be dumb enough to say no?

Dunken when your skin is loose like that, is it also thin? Yes, but its hard to tell between fat/skin........plus i have a distended stomach....

anybody here with lots of extra skin in single digit bf%? I was reading an interesting article about this a few weeks back, let me see if i can find it.

ok well it's not really an article but interesting anyway Dear Tom, Before I ask my question I just wanted to say thank you for all the help your Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle e-book (and the monthly newsletters) have given me with my recent weight losses. Last summer I began a fat loss program using your e-book and it worked so well I got down to 15 1/2 stones (from 19). However, this has caused me a problem: Excess abdominal skin. I didn't crash lose this weight, it came off at the rate of about 2 lbs. per week. Now I'm unsure of whether to carry on, as my abdomen has quite a lot of excess skin - I feel like I've turned into a bloody Shar-Pei! (you know, as in the dog!) Does everyone go through this? Will the skin tighten up? I was overweight for more than 12 years. Am I going to end up needing surgical skin removal? Can you offer me any advice? I'm a medical student in the UK and my colleagues seem determined to proffer surgery as the only option - Needless to say, I would like to avoid that if at all possible... Sincerely, Mike Hi Mike Thank you for your email and congratulations on your successful fat loss Regarding loose skin after large weight losses, here's what I can tell you: 1. Skin is incredibly elastic. Just look at what women go through during pregnancy. Skin has the ability to expand and contract back to normal to a remarkable degree. 2. Elasticity of skin tends to decrease with age. Wrinkling and loss of elasticity is partly the consequence of aging (genetic factors) and also a result of environmental factors such as oxidative stress, excessive sun exposure, and nutritional deficiency. The environmental parts you can fix, the genetics and age part, you cannot. Advice: Get moving and change the things you have control over... Be realistic and don't worry about those things you don't have control over. 3. How much your skin will return to its former tautness therefore, depends partly on age. The older you get, the more an extremely large weight loss can leave loose skin that will not return to normal 4. How long someone carries extra weight has a lot to do with how much the skin will become taut after the weight loss: For example, compare a 9 month pregnancy with 9 years carrying 100 excess pounds. 5. How much weight was carried has a lot to do with how much the skin will resume a tight appearance. Your skin can only be stretched so much and be expected to "snap back" one hundred percent. 6. How fast the weight was gained also has a lot to do with how much the skin will resume a tight appearance. Your skin can only be stretched so quickly and be expected to "snap back." 7. How fast weight is lost also has a lot to do with how much the skin will tighten up. Rapid weight loss doesn't allow the skin time to slowly resume to normal. (yet another reason to lose fat slowly; 1-2 pounds per week, 3 pounds at the most if you have a lot of weight to lose, and even then, only if you are measuring body fat and you're certain it's fat you're losing). 8. There are exceptions to all of the above; i.e, people who gained and then lost incredible amounts of weight quickly at age 50 or 60, and their skin returned 100% to normal. 9. There are many creams advertised as having the ability to restore the tightness of your skin. None work - at least not in a noticeable, measurable way - and especially if you have a LOT of loose skin. Don't waste your money. 10. If you're considering surgical skin removal, consult a physician for advice, because this is not a minor operation, but keep in mind that your plastic surgeon may be making his BMW payments with your abdominoplasty money. (Surgery may be recommended in situations where it's not 100% necessary). Surgery should be left as the ABSOLUTE FINAL option in extreme cases. 11. Give your skin time. Your skin will get tighter as your body fat gets lower. I've seen and heard of many cases where the skin gradually tightened up, at least partially, after a one or two year period where the weight loss was maintained and exercise continued. 12. Know your body fat percentage before even THINKING about surgery. Loose skin is one thing, but still having body fat is another. Be honest with yourself and do that by taking your body fat measurement. This can be done with skinfold calipers or a variety of other devices (calipers might not be the best option for those with large folds of loose skin. Look into impedance analysis, underwater weighing, DEXA or Bod Pod). Suppose for example, a man drops from 35% body fat all the way down to 20%. He should be congratulated, but I would tell him, "Don't bitch about loose skin, your body fat is still high. Press onward and keep getting leaner." Average body fat for men is in the mid teens (16% or so) Good body fat for men is 10-12%, and single digits is extremely lean (men shouldn't expect to look "ripped" with 100% tight skin on the abs unless they have single digit body fat, and women low teens). Except in extreme cases, you are very unlikely to see someone with loose skin who has very low body fat. It's quite remarkable how much your skin can tighten up and literally start to "cling" to your abdominal muscles once your body fat goes from "average" to "excellent." Someone with legitimate single digit body fat and a ton of loose skin is a rare sight. So... the key to getting tighter skin is to lose more body fat, up to the point where your body composition rating is BETTER than average (in the "good" to "great" category, not just "okay"). Only AFTER you reach your long term body fat percentage goal should you give thought to "excess skin removal." At that point, admittedly, there are bound to be a few isolated cases where surgery is necessary if you can't live with the amount of loose skin remaining. However, unless you are really, really lean, it's difficult to get a clear picture of what is loose skin, what is just remaining body fat and how much further the skin will tighten up when the rest of the fat is lost. http://www.fitren.com/res3ask.cfm?compid=18&qaid=163

deznutz i lost 100lbs in about 3-4 months Wow thats extremely unhealthy. If you could go back in time would you do it any differently?

Ok, I wish i had pics to tell the story.... My upper chest is fine, i can see improvements (line down the middle) and my "pecs" developing nicely...my arms are fine, my legs are fine.... The problem comes with the lower chest/ "triangle groin area" It looks like i have ample amounts of fat around these areas....but i am the healthiest eater around plus i work-out everyday and i am petty freakin active walking around.... is cardio my answer?

wont go away until you cut

If you have fat around your belly, you need to lose it, and you can't spot reduce. Eating healthy != weight loss. Cardio, eat less, and try some abdominal tightening exercises (google).

gyno?

Groin gyno.

2lowintegra gyno? YES! gyno on his abs! BRILLIANT!lc

jonno YES! gyno on his abs! BRILLIANT!lc that's my excuse

ralyks Cardio, eat less, and try some abdominal tightening exercises (google). ^^^ By 'lower chest', do you mean abdominals/obliques? It sounds like you need cardio and core exercises.

do squats on an exercise ball-its a wonderful core exercise =/

You've been on F&N forever dude, would've thought you'd know by now that the only way to get rid of fat is to cut it (and belly / lower torso fat is the last to go).

runners

I just starting running to prepare myself for the citadel in the fall i have a question after i go about a mile i get pains/ cramps on my side directly across from my navel. anyone know how i can prevent this or know what this is. i drink about 6 bottles a of water + some gatoraide per day so i dont think i am dehydrated but i'm not sure thanks

Does it keep hurting or does it eventually stop while you're running?

Girl_Next_Door Does it keep hurting or does it eventually stop while you're running? it stops if i when i slow my pace to a brisk walk

i used to get that when i ran for soccer. our coach told us to put our hands behind our head while we were running and take deep breaths. seemed to work for me

disblohs i used to get that when i ran for soccer. our coach told us to put our hands behind our head while we were running and take deep breaths. seemed to work for me thanks ill try that

Grandpa Cramps can be caused by a couple of things. It's a myth that putting your hands over your head helps. It's actually the deep breathing that helps. And like stated above, don't drink an exceptional amount before running. Except movement from the weight in your stomach also causes the cramps. I think the underlying cause of both is pressure on your diaphragm, but don't quote me on that. thanks

i wonder if strengthening your core muscles would help?

Exercise related transient abdominal pain, or stitches have alot of myths surrounding them. I found this in a snopes article, citing Engel & Malloy, 1993 A form of muscle cramp, stitches are caused by the blood supply to the diaphragm being shut off by pressure from the lungs above and the abdomen below, like a bomb and a submarine attack at the same time. So what does this have to do with food? Well, if you have food in your stomach you are likely to develop stomach cramps. Here's why: To aid digestion the heart pumps a large volume of blood to the stomach. During exercise, the heart pumps blood to the muscles, and the flow of the blood to the stomach is greatly diminished. Without the blood supply, the stomach muscles suffer from lack of oxygen and, like any muscle without oxygen, develop cramps. I also looked at PubMed, a bloke named Morton DP has done a fair bit of research on ETAP, he has reached several conclusions The results indicate that in order to avoid ETAP, susceptible individuals should refrain from consuming reconstituted fruit juices and beverages similarly high in carbohydrate content and osmolality, shortly before and during exercise. Further, the mechanism responsible for the heightened experience of ETAP in the FJ trial extends beyond a gastric mass explanation. CONCLUSION: Training status alters the frequency of occurrence of ETAP but has little effect on the incidence or severity of the pain. Further, ETAP and STP decrease with age but are not related to gender or BMI. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of the present study provide perspective on previously suggested etiologies of ETAP, which include diaphragmatic ischemia and stress on the visceral "ligaments," and form the basis for examining alternative etiologies such as cramp of the musculature and irritation of the parietal peritoneum. He has also highlighted that ETAP is unresearched, These findings may indicate that efforts to optimise spinal integrity may be important in the management of ETAP. Indeed, many questions relating to ETAP remain unanswered and numerous research opportunities exist. Although ETAP is an old complaint, its study is relatively new. I hope that increased research attention in the future will provide clearer insights into the cause of the pain as well as innovative strategies for its management. The article where he quotes this is available for free here http://bjsm.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/37/4/287

edd, great post my australian friend.

In order to fix the cramps in your sides: 1) Do not eat 2 hours before you run. (May vary) 2) Do not drink for about an hour and a half before you run. (May vary) 3) If you follow 1 and 2, and you get a cramp, run anyway, your body must learn the hard way.

you guys rock. thanks a ton, on a side note where could i get info on core muscles and how to excersice them

exrx.com is reliable. there isnt much focus on that topic here.

ehh i eat and drink right before i run sometimes.i always though pains in the side was from being out of shape

there are core type of excercises.. it's pretty much similar to yoga

My rib cage protrudes quite a bit.

Is this normal? It's most noticeable if I'm laying down, especially if I have my back somewhat arched. I can take a picture if you guys don't know what I'm talking about. You can't see individual ribs or anything, it's just the ends of the rib cage that protude. Maybe it's my lack of adbdominal muscles .

Bird chest.

my gut protrudes

I had the same thing, I learned to pull my rib cage in to be flush with my body, just takes a bit of abdominal exercise/training.

I have a similar problem as well.

i gots that, too. i can pull it flat but why do it unless it's for showing off abs. i like it. seems like it adds a lot of size to my frame.

Injuries deciding whether I should bulk or cut?

Injuries deciding whether I should bulk or cut?

Ok, so right now I have a bad lower back, a possible abdominal-area hernia, a bad elbow, and my knee is still a little iffy from knee surgery last summer. With that being said, its hard for me to want to bulk up without being able to lift heavy - I cant deadlift, I can only squat super light (less than 100lbs), and I dont think I'll be able to bench for a week or two at best. Should I just say fuck it and try to cut down? My only hesitation here is that I'm not cavefish style - both muscular and fat, but rather I am probably just a hair past skinny-fatitude. Any advice?

you shouldn't be bulking nor cut! what you need to do is let your body heal, maintain or imporve your fitness level in every aspects, size is not your concern yet. bulking and cutting is more fine tuning after you maintain your fitness level in my opinion... there is no elevators to being fit and healthy, everyone has to take stairs.

so you're saying just take in maintainance calories or what? I get what you're saying otherrwise, but why not take in calories at a slight deficit and try to lose some fat?

tize cant you tell im putting my moves on her? OP->RP conversion baby!! and btw, sucking isnt a bad thing when its a girl. remember that chris remember that. eh?!?!?

Abdominal (Abs) Exercises Techniques

Abdominal (Abs) Exercises Techniques

McGill crunches, Side bridge/plank, Dead bug, Stirring the pot

Abs Exercises Techniques

  • McGill crunches: fascia "raking" can be employed upon more advanced routines. The second phase is breathing deeply during the concentric phase and holding for up to 5 seconds. When you crunch: both hands and tucked under your sacrum (where the small of your back is - that natural lordotic curve); your tongue is pushed up to the roof of your mouth to activate your sternocleidomastoid (thus keep pressure off of your cervical vertebrae); finally, you image a string pulling your chest off of the ground while stiffening the core and crunching a few inches off of the ground.
  • Walkout holds (get in the upright plank/pushup position and walkout with your hands and hold for up to 10 seconds. Repeat 3 times. By using electromyographic we've been able to observe FULL abdominal rectus activation!!)
  • Side bridge/plank: commonly prescribed as just an oblique exercise. It's the only exercise that hits the QLs as well. I can't stress often enough that the body has to be flat like a board when you turn and your feet turn - don't stack them up
  • Dead bug: great exercise for working the core hoop. You can turn it into a plyometric exercise when more advanced
  • Stirring the pot: get a stability and get in the plank position. Use your elbows as the fulcrum point and stir the ball clockwise and the next set counterclockwise. You can make the exercise easier by having your feet further apart or harder by keeping closer
  • Pike or Jackknife off the stability ball
