well? whats it doing for me...any toning or fat burning?

it won't burn anything. it'll just give you an onion booty. no but seriously, if you do it with enough intensity, it could be a good cardio activity thats easy on the knees compared to jogging.

Do you have to say TONE in every god damn post. NO, it will not TONE your muscle. You will lose weight, uncovering what muscle you may have underneth -- giving the appearence of TONAGE (lol?). It is good cardio though (good on the knees), depending on your entensity.

sr20wop just go to a damn gym I can't stand doing cardio in a gym so I normally rollerblade 2-3 times per week during the summer. Yes it is one hell of a workout if you make it. Actually a girl I work with use to speedskate and her and I would go every weekend and not quit till someone gave up. Some days we would end up doing 20+ miles. If you really want some fun basically skate upright for a couple of minutes and then crouch and try and get as far of a kick as possible for a minute or so and as hard as you can. If you have a friend who bikes try and draft them. Did that with a buddy of mine who raced and I could barely breath after a couple of miles. What muscles you work depend on your stance very similiar to an efx machine. If you are low you are going to notice it more in the whole leg if you are upright more in the middle of your legs.

I started rollerblading 12 years ago it was a b-day present from my parents since I wanted something else to supplment my cycling. I basically have sticked with rollerblade brand the whole way. Right now I am on the Rollerblade Aero 2 got an awesome deal on them at a local sporting store that stopped carrying the rollerblade brand. The only problem I have is the boot is uncomfortable and almost makes my foot go numb but after a couple of miles almost like it breaks in and I don't have a problem. I use to have K2 and that was a nice boot. If I could take the Aero 2 skate and add the K2 boot it would have been perfect. What you got?

Even when i was doing agressive I used rollerblade old school with the hard plastic boot. First skate I ever owned. Had a couple sets of wheels and bearing that I would switch depending if I was doing x-training, aggressive, or even playing hockey. God I miss that skate but man it would get hot. Ton of armor on it. Tore through grindplates like it was nothing.

jshively What you got? I have the Rollerblade Lightning 09 2004 model, had them for about a year. They're a five-wheel skate, built for fitness/speed. The boot is amazing, and even after a long (15-20 mile) skate, I hardly feel like I had them on. The only downside to having skates with such a long frame is that you can't do too many 'fun' things, other than going 25-30mph. They just aren't that agile. Plus, you have to pay to play: when my bearings wore out, it cost over $100 to replace them.

You guys are making me miss rollerblading, about 10 years ago I skated just about everywhere

thats some pretty vigorous exercises. if i didnt already have a routine for a specific goal i'd consider doing that.

its ok, not exactly well laid out or periodized, but it is decent training for general strength and fitness

I'd run dbol instead of drol, so I didnt feel like shit, but I don't know anything about halo apart from the incredible strength gains.

i've run dbol before and it gave the worst back pumps ever, i mean dibilitating. couldn't deadlift 135lbs if my life depended on it. so i'm gunna give drol a try. running the halo to harden up at the end of the cycle and for the aggressiveness and strength.

Nice! I was going to do the same thing, but without the pussy ass PCT. I heard it hurts my squat numbers if I don't cycle for long enough, so I was buying a 6 month supply. Hopefully I can squat my weight by the end.

Ive just recently started lifting and brought back my running routine (going on 3 weeks of progress now). I was dormant from the health/fitness routine for about 2 years. Im naturally predisposed to being an athletically built guy, but it seems that even though im down to 166lbs, I cant get my abs back into the shape they once were. Here is a pic of what they look like now. They can be more defined if I flex, but in thier natural state they seem a bit flabby. Im eating about 3k cal per day, working out mildly and downing about 150g of protein. Im not looking to gain alot of muscle mass, but some gains are good. I havent been cutting at all. Is there a good way to get larger abs instead of just losing the weight around them to show them more? On to the pics number 1 show the place that has some def. and good strength (natrual state in pics) Number 2 show area that is flabby and soft. No matter how much I run or how many forms of situps I do, I cant get muscel to form there. Any thoughts?

No need to get hostile. Im already getting everything else pretty much right in that guide (sans a few grams of protein)

Just wanted some advice, not someone telling me that its not working. I have a hard time beleiving things that I read on the net and just wanted some informed suggestions.

vettedude is pretty much right. the bottom line here is nothing about your abs, its about the layer of fat over them. now what you knwo you need to do is lose fat, and if you look on the main page it says "Sticky: want to lose fat? L I F T W E I G H T S" and "Sticky: Basic Newb Guide to Fat Loss" so obviously thats where you'd look. if you actually read it you'd know it has everything you need to know and you wouldnt be making this thread

Probably a FAQ, but I couldn't find much in the search... basically I'm 6'4" and 165 pounds.. it's been a few years since I've done some proper fitness training so when I run 100m I need 10 minutes to recover.. and I'd like to build up my muscle size and try and get fit.. so ive been on a more controlled nutrional intake and today was the first time i went to the 24 hour fitness gym i signed up for... i did a cardio machine to start things up which was a pedaling type device with cool features but anyways i hit my target heart rate for about 15 minutes and then i stopped. when i stepped off i was thinking holy shit my legs feel tight.. then 2 minutes later i swear my penis went numb and tingly. at first i thought maybe its entanged in my underwear or something funny but when i poked it discreetly it was truly numb... almost like it was in a cramp. i was freaking out for about 3 minutes because it wouldnt go away but finally did.. anyone care to explain this weird sensation?

i always thought muscles went numb/tingly from blood deprivation, maybe you were cutting bloodflow to your penis and didn't know it.... /shrug. (and yes, i know the penis isn't actualy a muscle)

must have compressed a nerve that runs into that area, it takes a while to work itself out but shouldnt be a problem, generally the seats on fitness equiptment isnt exactly comfy.

When i used to run in cold weather for like 20 minutes my piece would get all cold and numb too. Its normal don't worry.

haha yeah this has happened to me, but it's always gone away pretty quickly. i don't know how i manage it but it will happen every once in a while when i've been sittin down doin something. maybe its cause my junk is ginormous.

although impressive, i think the prob is more at the beginning of the bench.. you didnt have a clean start, so that may have caused the arm wobble. like pur said, drive through it. start controlled then blast, not the other way also should your arms be that angled? id think a bit more in line with shoulders, but im not sure about that.. :/

In the squat vid clip, the other two guys you see including myself are facilitators of the course. i'm the head facilitator (instructor). i also named the course after this forum: Fitness & Nutrition. I figure if i have an opportunity pass on the knowledge of what I've acquired throught my experience, this forum, my classes, and help them out, i should make the most of it. everytime i hit the gym i see guys who looked like me when i first started lifting, and it's rewarding for me to duplicate my results in another individual. i taught this class last semester which was really fun. but this semester, for one reason or another, there's such a disparity in male:female enrollment its krazy.

I'm in a 3 year contrack with bally's total fitness and I tried Golds gym resently. Golds is much better. They have more equipment more room and better supplyments. In Bally's your always have to wait for somebody to get done with a bench or anything else. Gold's has so much shit that everyone could be doing something and not waiting. I'm going to cancle Bally's. Golds for me.

.....well, not really, but i was thinking of joining this local park district gym in the city where ill be moving to in couple days. deal was good....but its too good to be true.....coz the place is a shithole lol. deal was, first 3months = $45.... and $175 for whole year...if i like it, i can just pay for the balance. anyways, i walked in there and i went straight to the FREE weights....first of all, the place was soooooo fucking small...and there was only 1 of each bench. and the thing i was most concerned of (since i use it alot) was the DB....the db was the old school...and it only went up to 80lbs..... from there, i dindt even bother looking around...i just left i havent been to the gym for a week...and im feeling weak and fat again last choices i got is: lifetime = $250 intiation fee, 50/month-----its only 10min away xsport = $400/year---20min away ballys = if its worth it

When a new L.A Fitness goes up, how long do they run their 'specials' for? I went and talked to the guy today (3/31) and he said it was the last day they would be running it. I told him all gyms usually run more specials and that this is their way to get ppl to sign up. He said not them, because their a 'corporation.' I gave him the Im just wondering if anyone here goes to LA Fitness, how much did you pay when you signed up? The guy quoted me $35, which is pretty good, but than said it was going to go up to like $45. If thats the case, and hes not just trying to get me 2 join, i will gladly stay at my ghetto ass gym full of geriatrics and pay my $25 a month.

The gym was packed last night. I'm getting set up to do shoulder presses and notice a couple of gentlemen of dark pigment are looking for a DB to complete a set- even though they already have the only other existing set of that weight (80 lb). They find the weight over by some light-pigmented fellows and ask in a very vague way if anyone is using it. Apparently the guy that was using it ran to the fountain for a quick drink between sets. Even though noone claims to be using the DB, the dark gent walks away from the DB and starts talking to his friend loudly. The light fellow comes back and goes to do another set. The dark gent apparently gets upset that someone has claimed the DB and starts asking VERY LOUDLY if the light fellow is using the DB. The light guy says that he WAS using it, but would be willing to let the dark fellow have it if he'd like. This answer wasnt good enough and the dark gentleman is walking closer and closer to the light fellow, getting louder. Still asking if he's done with it but now just being very rude and condescending about it. The 2 go back and forth with the light gent offering it to him and the dark fellow not being happy about the offer but wanting the DB all the same. Finally the dark gent backs down and walks back to his friend talking loudly about how "dis be bullshit" and other colorful phrases to make certain that everyone knows how he felt about the situation. The unhappy couple then took turns with the set of DBs they already had. I just made the face the entire time, since they were disrupting everyones workout, and grumbled about having to wait for the pussyhurts to get the sand out of their vaginas. Later, i saw 2 girls "working out" that looked like they had taken a break from standing on the corner. They had on SO much makeup and were dressed in just sweats and a tee, but had the tee tied in the back and hitched way up, and the sweats pulled way down to expose their fat asscracks WTF happened to my gym last night? it was like Ghetto Night at 24 Hour Fitness.

I got the free subscription to the new mens mag... Apparently it's not a FAG mag yet, but it's sure to be. It's got tons of stuff Filmy would like such as fashion stuff, but the important part was this.. The fitness "guru" they have. I don't have it in front of me, but the gist was "what's you opinion on weight belts" guru " They're a nice accessory, but I don't beleive that you need them. If Prada makes one, then we'll see" He's right, but reguardless.. FYI if you people who like to read during cardio haven't checked hot deals for free mag subscriptions, you should. I get like 20 now. I always do this, started cutting again today seriously after 2 weeks of cheating, started the day off right, 2 eggs +1 white and 1 cup of oats, then a tuna wrap and then a 55g protein shake and a burger patty w/o bun, then... I just went off and in the last 2 hours I've eaten 2 Cinnebon cinamon buns, a frosted chocolate cupcake (very big), 3 oreos, a piece of banana bread and some other crap.... anyone else have a LOT of trouble sticking to a clean diet?

You need to learn self control say to yourself 'Will i fell good about this an hour from now?' Remember food is fuel not fun.

There's this vending machine at my work that has these Skippy Peanutbutter Snackbars. They're like pure peanut butter with rice krispies on the inside. Absolutely delicious. In front of me was my plain chicken berast-on-cardboard sandwich, some cottage cheese, a yogurt, and some reheated brown rice. I ate all my food just fine, but I was still a *little* bit hungry. You have no idea how hard it was for me to sit in front of that fucking vending machine and not get a peanut butter bar. In reality, that bar isn't too bad for my diet. But alas, I made a commitment to eat nothing but healthy, clean foods. You just have to look at what you're doing. Eating all that not-so-great tasting foods just so you can better your health. So, why go through all the trouble eating all that healthy shit if you're just going to waste any profit gained from eating healthy by binging on a bunch of junk food. It's all about self-control. Learn it.

My mom jumped on the Atkins bandwagon and she lost something ridiculous like 20 lbs in 3-4 weeks and she looked great. But after that she didn't lose any weight at all so she got discouraged and stopped the diet. She blew back up like a baloon. I wish people would just eat healthy.

I have been cutting for about 12 weeks now and have never had problems like that. Some people call my diet shitty but it's incredibly clean compared to yours. I think you need to practice some self control. without that, you may as well get your stomach stapled, it'd be the only way for you to limit your caloric intake and still eat as much as you want/could.

If you want to put on weight, BWx18, maintain, BWx15, lose weight, BWx12. Because everybody is different, those are just rough starting points. Adjust your intake up or down depending on how rapidly your losing/gaining weight

I go to the gym to maintain my weight... not to get muscular, but just not to get fat. I am considering cancelling going to the gym all together because I do not think I will have time and/or opportunity to go to the gym once I start. Do you feel that I will stay in shape as much if I do workout videos? For instance, I like the Comcast On Demand videos a lot. I am wondering if going TO a gym will make a difference or if I can stay in just as much shape doing videos. Thanks

If you just go to "not be fat", doing bodyweight training and cardio at home with a good diet would probably be sufficient. Not as good as going to the gym though.

Just buy a stairstepper or a treadmill for your house/apartment.

If general fitness and weight management are your interests, there is plenty of shit you can do outside of a gym. Cardio stuff is obvious (walk, jog, bike or get an elliptical, treadmill, etc...). For strength training, look for a book called "The Naked Warrior" by Pavel Tsatsouline... strength training concepts, routines, and exercises using bodyweight and a minimal amount of equipment.

There is *always* time to go to the gym, imo. I've never stopped going, not even during my working two jobs, 14 hours a day phase that lasted a year. If you really want to, you'll find the time somehow..and of course there's the other options people have put forth about in-home stuff.

I consider it less out of my paycheck now rather than less out of my take-home, if that makes any sense... I I guess Im just looking for words of encouragement as far as dropping the gym and doing it on my own... I almost have my mind made up, but Im looking for someone to tell me its a GREAT idea or HORRIBLE idea, based on the facts ive given

Pushups, Hindu squats, upsidedown pushups, there is always an option.

I don't know about everyone else, but paying for a gym motivates me to go. I spend xx amount of dollars a month for equipment that I'd better be using. If I didn't spend a dime, I'd probably be sitting home doing pushups and situps thinking I'd get massive. But the fact that I pay motivates me. I think if you can, just try to continue going to a gym w/ a (paid?) membership so that you'd have a reason to go out. Plus, while you're there you get to have a certain mentality that you might not be able to achieve at home. If you're not looking at that route, I think that motivation would be key in terms of working out several times a week. So maybe get a buddy to run with you or something...I don't know. I'm kind of rambling.

I think allot of it depends on how you get motivated. About 3 years ago I prepaid a gym membership and could never get motivated to go. As a result I never really made any progress and fatened up. I also let the membership lapse after it expired. I finally decided to do something about being out of shape and bought a bench/squat rack and dug out my old free weights. I started working out again on April 1st and have been hugely motivated so far. I'm doing the dreaded cardio by taking my boxer on bikerides 3-4 times a week and lifting 3 nights a week. I've dropped 18 pounds (mostly water i'm sure) so far and I swear I feel stronger. I screwed up and dropped a grip on my gym membership and never used it. I spent $200 on a decent home bench and use it all the time. I even look forward to using it. Food for thought anyway.












Job change: may not have the opp. to go to a gym now...

I manage the Front Desk & Valet Departments (Yeah, I know... valet at a fitness club ) so I usually don't head upstairs to the Fitness Area during the busy morning rush. However today I needed to find a certain member of the club in the weight room and was SHOCKED to see Jerry Rice squatting with some of the ugliest squat form I'd ever seen. It blew me away! I thought he was actually going to hurt himself the way he was hunched over. Moreover, I would have assumed that a pro trainer would have taught him some sort of proper form Anyways, I did a double-take Cliffs: Jerry Rice has HORRIBLE squat form

at this point, i think hes done something right.

Mike McDermott yeah, he knows how to run routes, and he has great hands Yeah but just the simple fact that his body hasn't fallen apart has to count for something.

Ya they only get rocked occasionally, other than that they get off pretty easy.

Any of you workout in the mornings?? There next monday for a week before heading to my brother's in Palm Springs and LA area.

24 hr fitness in San Jose are I liked Balleys and even Right stuff better, but I it doesn't matter to me now. Nights are the times, sometimes lunch time.
