How to kick higher?

How to kick higher?

How does someone train their legs to kick much higher? I am assuming just stretching your legs out and practicing kicking would do it?

Thats one way to do it...alot of it has to do with your hips being too tight. For example if you can do the splits you'll have an easier time kicking high. Dynamic stretching helps a bit as well, but relaxed and other kinds of stretching are just as important.

All about the flexibility.

relaxed stretching first, then with tension. do both kinds of splits (side and middle). do stretch up kicks to loosen the hamstrings. practice your kicks about a million times. I dunno if this attatchment will work right, I just came back to the board, but this is me at about 19.

I dunno if this attatchment will work right, I just came back to the board, but this is me at about 19. That is really impressive. If I want to kick higher, should I do those stretches everyday? Or can I overexert them?

I dunno I developed the ability over about a year's time. Your body should tell you how much pushing yourself is OK. Don't let yourself get comfortable until you are at your desired amount of stretch, but let yourself reach that point gradually; don't force it. If you work for it, it'll come.

I have trained in several martial arts for quite sometime and I always found that easiest way to improve your kicking height is simply practice kicks, and stretch. Stretch not only your legs, but also your groin, hips, glutes, and sides of abs. A combination of both intensive stretches and a lot of kicking practice will get you there.

stretching is one thing, flexibility is another. So yeah, you've gotta be pretty flexible.

Socrates How does someone train their legs to kick much higher? I am assuming just stretching your legs out and practicing kicking would do it? are you in martial arts or sumpin(serious, not trying to be a dick). cuz if you wanna become an all around better fighter, there is a very slim chance that in a real world fight you will get the chance to kick someone in the face if thats what you are after. if you are lifting at the same time that can be deleterious to your flexability goals. ive lost about 20% of my flexability in the last few weeks

incubimmer deleterious ,., ohh, fancy word...i like that one

I grew up wrestling with my older brother, then wrestled in high school a bit. Took some boxing lessons at a gym for a few months, but gave it up pretty quick. I joined up with a MMA training gym (Springfield Fight Club) a couple months back and have been into it ever since. Going to jail for fighting directly after turning 17 got old REAL fast, and I have always been pretty addicted to fighting sports. I'm going to work on getting my martial arts belts through the military (easy to do at the Reserve Center here), and was going to continue training at the MMA gym and hopefully get set up with some good fights. A few of the guys travel around and fight, so I think it will be good teaching. The reason I want to get better at kicking now is because my friends set me up fights with guys from other towns or other guys for $50 a fight, and I can't get over the adrenaline rush from the fight. My kicks are weak, and when I kick someone in the head, it usually isn't very powerful. I figure I shouldn't do too much leg weight training.

Leo95SE hes right. posts 3 and 7. practice and flexibility. Dang you seriously knew what was going on there.

As long as you continue to train your flexibility separately, leg weight training is fine, how do you expect to kick hard with weak legs? look at cro cop, he ktfo'd so many people with his tree trunk legs... you gotta weight train, just continue to practice your high kicks too!

I'll make sure to do that then!

How often/ what kind of stretching do you do? Flexibility isn't set in stone, you can change it. There are shitloads of exercises you can do to increase flexibility, especially for legs...your #1 problem is probably your hips being too tight. How far can you go down into the splits? Being able to do the splits isn't necessary for good kicking but it will make it easier.

I should make a pictoral stretch guide

What's the pro and cons of Powercleaning?

What's the pro and cons of Powercleaning?

I mean, It's like an extended deadlift but all you brolys only do deadlift. Is there a certain reason for this?

i'll go on a limb here and say because it's more form dependent thant just strength... and have you seen how shitty the forms of some deadlifts here? That's a clusterfuck in the works if i've ever seen one.

It also a very explosive lift...which helps those fast twitch muscle fibers. Oh yea, and nothing burns my traps more than 3 to 4 sets of hang cleans/power cleans.

1.8t It also a very explosive lift...which helps those fast twitch muscle fibers. Oh yea, and nothing burns my traps more than 3 to 4 sets of hang cleans/power cleans. I tried to powerclean about 115 on wednesday (my first time) and I got it up but I believe my form was really horrendous

christophers because there's no reason to use a movement that you cannot teach yourself. the vast majority of football/sports coaches in the US cannot properly teach most oly lifts, either. yea, a few of my friends said that I could just fake it for football testing but I actually want to learn it

just use the clean pull

oh, and is it sad that i'm 5'9, 140 pounds...my max bench that I know of so far is 165x3 and my max squat that I know of so far is 155?

Juke oh, and is it sad that i'm 5'9, 140 pounds...my max bench that I know of so far is 165x3 and my max squat that I know of so far is 155? it's only sad if it stays that way.

I was lucky enough to have a coach in high school that actually did a bit of O-lifting and knew what he was doing. I did them for football/throwing but I see no reason to continue doing them now. Unless you're planning to olympic lift, in which case you should find a good training center/coach and learn from them.

Undefined it's only sad if it stays that way. Well, I just bumped the bench weight up yesterday...and I haven't done squats in a long time cause I had foot surgery in march

whatever you do don't try to do it on your own, please please please have some experience person who knows what the fuck they are doing help you out...With the proper form you can get some fantastic explosive strength. With the wrong form repeated you can just injure yourself and not even get the best results. I just got done doing my oly day...snatches, clean and jerks weee

Juke oh, and is it sad that i'm 5'9, 140 pounds...my max bench that I know of so far is 165x3 and my max squat that I know of so far is 155? your squat is sad, id say bench is fine though, but as Undefined said, its only sad if it stays that way.

princess0fdiabl0 your squat is sad, id say bench is fine though, but as Undefined said, its only sad if it stays that way. well, like I stated in a previous post, I had an injury occur on my foot which required surgery

Juke I tried to powerclean about 115 on wednesday (my first time) and I got it up but I believe my form was really horrendous Its all in your form. My weight coach in highschool certainly wasn't an olympic trainer or competitor, but he seemed like he knew what he was doing. We would spend hours working on form w/ just the bar. Even so, my form as far as dropping underneath the weight still sucks. I drop half as far as I should. However, the rest of my form much better. Keeping the weight on the legs to keep from straining the upper back. Roll the bar to your shins and explode upward using your legs as hard as you can. Near the peak of this manuever shrug and pull the weight up as far as you can while trying to keep the weight moving only verticall. From here you drop beneath the weight as fast as possible while letting the bar come down on your delts as you raise your elbows as high as possible. From here, it is nothing but a front squat. I have only been doing hang cleans as of late. I guess the only reason I like them is because I am decent at them. I do 225lbs for 3 sets of 5. It has REALLY helped w/ my upper back developement.

my problem with cleans is that I don't feel like I have my elbows up high enough when I rack the bar onto my shoulders. does anyone have any good animated gifs to show proper form?

Has being in good shape helped you get ahead in life?

Has being in good shape helped you get ahead in life?

Lets face it, we are all human, and if we were a manager at say....hardees (god forbid), any normal guy would hire an attractive girl over an average/ugly one. (Obviously they also hire based on hygiene, but I mean just because the employer is attracted to the girl) Have you had any situations like this? Been hired on because of your physical appearance? A cop let you off of a ticket? Played in 2 episodes of Kojak? Any of these things happen to you?

it's hired. and lol@ the Kojak

Well unless you're working some manual labor job, I think being able to spell "hire" would help you get a job over your looks

Socrates Played in 2 episodes of Kojak? i wish,, my looks have gotten me nowhere

When I worked in a grocery store, I was put up front where most of the people entered, so I could smile and say hello.

My boss is a balding fat-ass

PNHWrestler it's hired. and lol@ the Kojak Ugh, my bad on that. My Dad (English teacher) would rape me for that. When I worked at Best Buy they only hired attractive people. Next time you're at Best Buy, look for a few ugly people. Hard to find! (Maybe just my manager's bias)

helped me pick up some girls but now im just a fatass.

Socrates Ugh, my bad on that. My Dad (English teacher) would rape me for that. Haha watch the bunhole

Socrates Ugh, my bad on that. My Dad (English teacher) would rape me for that. When I worked at Best Buy they only hired attractive people. Next time you're at Best Buy, look for a few ugly people. Hard to find! (Maybe just my manager's bias) Yeah the girls that work in the videogame section of mine seem abnormally hot. You may be on to something there.

cavefish Yeah the girls that work in the videogame section of mine seem abnormally hot. You may be on to something there. lol, our store only had guys doing the nerdy stuff. Hot girls were at the front! (When I said hot, I should have said they made some exceptions for guys)

Socrates Lets face it, we are all human, and if we were a manager at say....hardees (god forbid), any normal guy would hire an attractive girl over an average/ugly one. A cop let you off of a ticket? Played in 2 episodes of Kojak? Any of these things happen to you?

being in shape helped me run from the cops

its helped be get some head, not ahead

Being in shape makes women more forgiving when they have to be the one to pay for dinner.

Socrates Ugh, my bad on that. My Dad (English teacher) would rape me for that. When I worked at Best Buy they only hired attractive people. Next time you're at Best Buy, look for a few ugly people. Hard to find! (Maybe just my manager's bias) Not at my BB we have a fair amount of ugly people.

It has given me a lot more self confidence, so I think it's helped me a lot indirectly.

PNHWrestler Haha watch the bunhole sorry to get offtopic does your name mean parkway north high? just wonderin, i went to south myself

I was fat last year. Decided I wanted to be better lookin. Took 3 months, lost 100 pounds, so finally I could see my mucles ( I was pretty buff from sports, but just fat) and also added on to the muscle...After that I had a GF in like 2 weeks...Broke up w/ her tho after a while, have another one now going on 6 months. It makes you more confident/happy about yerself, so I would say its getting me ahead in life for now.

just being more confident overall is benefit enough.

Socrates Ugh, my bad on that. My Dad (English teacher) would rape me for that. When I worked at Best Buy they only hired attractive people. Next time you're at Best Buy, look for a few ugly people. Hard to find! (Maybe just my manager's bias) what about that thread in OT where the guys roomate is a 300lb messican that works at best buy?

i was hired to be the cute little girl that stood in front of a place handing out flyers in the mall... then my boss realized I was a fatty and made me manager instead

It is going to help me tenfold when getting a job. I have noticed an increase in my fire skills.

My health is tied directly to my happiness. Took me 3 years of decaying to realize that. Now i'm getting back on track.

Socrates Lets face it, we are all human, and if we were a manager at say....hardees (god forbid), any normal guy would hire an attractive girl over an average/ugly one. A cop let you off of a ticket? Played in 2 episodes of Kojak? Any of these things happen to you? Working out and looking good will help you in virtually every facet of life in some way, shape or form. Period.

Does weight lifting promote new muscle fiber to grow?

Does weight lifting promote new muscle fiber to grow?

Or does it just make the ones you already have bigger?

Blue=Gay Or does it just make the ones you already have bigger? Muscle is torn and replaced.

Ilyusha Muscle is torn and replaced. I know but does weight lifting promote new(more) muscle fibers to grow.

yes new muslce is formed!

there is always muscle there. is there wasnt, you would be a bone with skin on it. It would also be impossible to move your arm.

Toyota Kawasaki alright.. say youre so weak that you have no bicep muscle at all.. if you lift weights how could muscle tear and repair if there isnt any.. Holy fuck..

Ilyusha Holy fuck.. i'll see your and raise you a

Ilyusha Holy fuck.. even Terri Schiavo had muscles.

Toyota Kawasaki alright.. say youre so weak that you have no bicep muscle at all.. if you lift weights how could muscle tear and repair if there isnt any.. I hope you are kidding

Toyota Kawasaki alright.. say youre so weak that you have no bicep muscle at all.. if you lift weights how could muscle tear and repair if there isnt any.. Yes. There could be a situation where there was absolutely NO muscle in the bicep......

well im pretty sure you dont actually create new muscle fiber, only enlarge what you currently have.

Grouch well im pretty sure you dont actually create new muscle fiber, only enlarge what you currently have. Which could mean that new muscle fibers are growing.

Ilyusha Which could mean that new muscle fibers are growing. That would go against the whole 'new' part. If that is true.

Blue=Gay Or does it just make the ones you already have bigger? Some fibres may split

Toyota Kawasaki alright.. say youre so weak that you have no bicep muscle at all.. if you lift weights how could muscle tear and repair if there isnt any.. but is 20 like 30.....

it takes huge loads of stress to cause new muscle fibers to grow, or drugs (gh, slin)

SteveO it takes huge loads of stress to cause new muscle fibers to grow, or drugs (gh, slin) Drugs wont make new muscle fibres grow It is emerging research that under the right load and conditions muscle fibres MAY MAY MAY split, i.e its possible but you wont really see it happen much

Grouch well im pretty sure you dont actually create new muscle fiber, only enlarge what you currently have. you don't create new muscle cells.

edd91 Drugs wont make new muscle fibres grow It is emerging research that under the right load and conditions muscle fibres MAY MAY MAY split, i.e its possible but you wont really see it happen much yes, they will

SteveO yes, they will Literature?

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/vm15.htm Muscle Fiber Hypertrophy To begin, I'd like to cover the two main ways for an individual to increase overall muscle size. The first, muscle fiber hypertrophy, refers to the increase in the diameter of the individual muscle cells. The larger the cells, the larger the overall muscle, it's that simple. Muscle fiber hypertrophy = Big muscle fibers. Muscle Fiber Hyperplasia The second, muscle fiber hyperplasia, refers to the splitting of muscle fibers in the interest of creating new fibers. Obviously this would be of interest to anyone pursuing size or strength due to the fact that and if an individual has more fibers, their overall size potential is greater. Therefore when looking at hyperplasia, Muscle fiber hyperplasia + Muscle fiber hypertrophy = Many big muscle fibers. Ahh, the elusive double dose of size! At this point, I know that you're all supercharged to learn how to both make more fibers and to make them bigger, but I'm going to have to put the breaks on and be the bearer of bad news. The problem with hyperplasia is that no one really knows exactly how to promote it. Once we are born, some experts believe, muscle fiber number remains fixed for our lifetime. Therefore under normal circumstances muscle fiber hyperplasia seems nearly impossible. Interestingly, though, experts have begun to speculate that under abnormal circumstances, hyperplasia can contribute to overall muscle growth. For starters, recreational or even moderately intense weight training will probably NOT do it. Unfortunately there has not even been any evidence that very intense weight training will promote hyperplasia. One proposed link to hyperplasia, though is anabolic steroid use. A recent article in the American College of Sports Medicine's Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise found evidence for muscle fiber hyperplasia in anabolic steroid using powerlifters(1). This however, is pretty much the first evidence of a mechanism for hyperplasia in humans. [Editor's note: there is fairly long-standing evidence that hyperplasia does occur in (of all things) weight trained cats.] The bottom line is that unless we are ready to boatload anabolic steroids into our systems, neither you nor I are going to be enjoying the benefits of muscle fiber hyperplasia any time soon. At least not over a period of less than 5-10 years (and even then it would be modest). So what about hypertrophy? Well that, my friends, is a promising reality.

Toyota Kawasaki alright.. say youre so weak that you have no bicep muscle at all.. if you lift weights how could muscle tear and repair if there isnt any.. seriously?

the gist is under nearly all circumstances, muscle fibers get bigger. You do not create more of them.

evi1eddie [color=black]http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/vm15.htm Can you post the references too please

shin splints

shin splints

I play basketball and I've had shin splints for a while now. I stretch, ice them, take anti-inflammitories, whatever. even after I rest for a week or two and they go away, they always come back after a couple more times of playing. what more can I do to treat the shin splints? what exercises/stretches can I do to prevent them?

do you have flat feet? don't ice them!!! if anything, you want to add some heat to relax the muscle!!! looks like this is a defintely a WARM UP issue! if it does get better when you rest and it happens when you start playing again, you defintely need to wark up properly.. warm up first, and stretch gently before you start your actual game... that helps.. im assuming you also started to play basketball... its not like you were playing basketball all these time and all of a sudden your get shin splits! eventually, you won't need to do stretching and the shin stretching goes away.. but ur legs have to get used to it first... a lot of my clients suffer from this once they start running, jogging, etc, etc.. and most of the time, its from not warming up properly or they have flat feet, etc, etc my suggestion to you is to properly warm up and gently take time to stretch b4.. if you give me detail info, i can give u more suggestion........

I get the same thing when running. What do you mean by flat feet?

maybe you need more cushioned shoes

look at your shoes, get some more cushioning inserts

is the pain on the front or inside part of the shin?

I saw some McDavid neoprene braces specifically for that. Maybe you shoudl try it out.

wood is the pain on the front or inside part of the shin? inside most of the time

I got some insoles for my old shoes, that didn't help, so I got new shoes. these ones are cushy and feel fine.

I always stretch my calves before playing. not sure what stretch I'd need to do to prevent the shin splints. MikeMurder I saw some McDavid neoprene braces specifically for that. Maybe you shoudl try it out. where could I get one? there's a GI Joes around my house that would probably have them, but I don't know of any places like that around school.

devilangel don't ice them!!! if anything, you want to add some heat to relax the muscle!!! Shin splints are on the bone, not any muscle.

You gotta do these walk exercises. Get an area where you can walk like 20 feet back and forth. Do each one of these walks back and forth: walk on your heals walk on your tip toes walk on the inside of your feet walk on the outsides of your feet We used to do them in track practice all the time for shin splints. They work great. You might feel a little weird doing them though.

Davo Shin splints are on the bone, not any muscle. No. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...e:shin+splints

Davo Shin splints are on the bone, not any muscle. I decided to look it up:http://my.webmd.com/content/article/80/96441.htm "Treatment for shin splits includes rest, massage, ice, stretching, and strengthening." I guess I'll keep icing them

on the bone? Hell no.

raded inside most of the time this is most likely caused by overpronation (foot rolls inward). first thing you will want to do is get a shoe and/or orthotic that will support your arch and help keep your foot from rolling inward. do you have flat fleet or low arches?

Ilyusha No. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&oi=defmore&q=define:shin+splints Still considered a bone injury. Regardless, heat is not a good treatment.

I'm going to go out and look for some orthotics later today.

do it without shoes on

we used to do then with a mat on the floor too

rest and better shoes.

Carnifex Shin splints can be caused by the separation of your calf from the muscle in front, generally because the calf is much stronger, so walk on your heels or find something to strengthen the muscle of the shin. It could also be micro fractures but it doesn't sound like it in your case. Also, it could just be shitty shoes / lack of proper stretching and warm up. thank you! thats exactly what i mean on my original post... proper stretching, warm up, building necessary muscles, proper shoes, etc.. about the iceing... if you gonna do that, you have to alternate with heat as well, the more blood goes through the problem area, the better off you will be.. but since i really dont' know the exact detail of your problem and how and when it all started and goes away, etc.. so you figure out accordingly with the information below... generally:Ice treatment is most commonly used for acute injuries. If you have a recent injury (within the last 48 hours), where swelling is a problem, you should be using ice treatment. Ice packs can help minimize swelling around the injury. Decreasing swelling around an injury will help to control the pain. Ice treatments may also be used for chronic conditions, such as overuse injuries in athletes. In this case, ice the injured area after activity. Never ice a chronic injury before activity. Heat treatments should be used for chronic conditions to help relax and loosen tissues, and to stimulate blood flow to the area. Use heat treatments on chronic conditions, such as overuse injuries, before participating in activities. Do not use heat treatments after activity, and do not use heat after an acute injury. good luck!

I've been looking into calf/shin braces. are there specific ones I could wear while playing or could I use any of them while playing?

raded where could I get one? there's a GI Joes around my house that would probably have them, but I don't know of any places like that around school. any sports/atheltic store.

Are muscles somewhat genetically deteremined?

Are muscles somewhat genetically deteremined?

In terms of muscle formation, ease of building it, etc. For example, if you notice, a lot of Asian people have massive calves. I don't lift my calves at all but they're still pretty big and defined. My arms and chest on the other hand I work at but gains are very minimal and small.

durrrrrrrrrr

that's why i hate being asian takes forever to gain strength.. takes a century to gain definition

my arms don't get any bigger

talksick that's why i hate being asian takes forever to gain strength.. takes a century to gain definition yeah, right. Every asian I know is strong as hell

bruce lee? or was he part asian, part freak?

SteveO yeah, right. Every asian I know is strong as hell too much starcraft but seriously... i heard we lack the natual creatine that other races have more naturally

talksick too much starcraft but seriously... i heard we lack the natual creatine that other races have more naturally I don't know if your wrong...but that sounds like total bullshit. Oh, and I suppose black people have an extra muscle in their legs too?

i guess we all have our pros and cons one the great things about being broly is when asian twigs see this 6'2'' monster walking by.. they just stare at me with this look in a way it's a good thing to be the stereotypical small size imaged race

I think asians generally have the worse genes in terms of bodybuilding. Higher estrogen levels for one... I recall reading something like that before. Of course there are always exceptions.

Gutrat I don't know if your wrong...but that sounds like total bullshit. Oh, and I suppose black people have an extra muscle in their legs too? blacks actually have been shown to have higher natural test levels than most white males.

SteveO and a small... aren't you asian? Yep.

just look at the penis size black >

longest study ever

Gutrat I don't know if your wrong...but that sounds like total bullshit. Oh, and I suppose black people have an extra muscle in their legs too? black people tend to have more fast twitch fibres and thinner hips

talksick that's why i hate being asian takes forever to gain strength.. takes a century to gain definition I have a decent amount of strength and definition...just no bulk.

bioyuki I have a decent amount of strength and definition...just no bulk. how many cals a day

Yeah, but they dont have an extra muscle... do they?

I build strength and muslce easily and have long sexy legs.

I believe that they are somewhat genetically predetermined, but I've seen that it's the easiest to defy genetics during the period where your body grows the most: puberty. If you start lifting around 15-16 and develop good habits and discipline, the results seem like they're easier to obtain since you're training your body while it's still taking shape and before it's fully developed. Plus metabolism is usually better around those years for most people. I could be wrong It just seemed that way to me when I was playing sports.

The more I eat, the better my genetics get. Something along those lines.

Shaolin_sword36 how many cals a day he's a swimmer (and gay ), which gives reason to him being so.....defined.

while determining whos got the best/worst genetics, you can use that time to make the best out of it i know my being a smartass here, but i believe everyone has at least one good gene to work with..

I don't want to buy my protein online, and I would like to get some ON Whey protein. I live in Guelph, but everywhere I look has other brands. I think I might get some Muscle Milk (, for taste) and some ON Whey...if I can find it. Any help?

Sport Nutrition Depot has ON whey. I dunno about prices though.

Sports Nutrition Depot in Waterloo. $41.99 canadian for a 5lb tub of ON whey

the internet?

Maestro Nobones the internet? hes anti internet.

ryazbeck hes anti internet. and yet he poses this question on an internet message board. the mind boggles.

Maybe he doesn't want to pay online.

timberwolf Maybe he doesn't want to pay online. oh you mean he has that paranoia thats like so 5 years ago?

ryazbeck oh you mean he has that paranoia thats like so 5 years ago? Actually saw on the news that many still are. Or maybe he doesn't have his own credit card. Though there is paypal though you still need a credit card to create an account.

yea, i work tech support for dial up and DSL and the only people dumb enough to call are the ones who still live out in the woods, hardcore rednecks and hicks and shit. they think there are hackers running rampant trying to access their computer and that they are stealing all their information from their computers etc. oh yeah, old people, ollllld.

Yeah, sport nutrition depot is where I get my stuff...it has the best prices that I could find.

timberwolf Or maybe he doesn't have his own credit card. Though there is paypal though you still need a credit card to create an account. Bingo. edit: and I'm not "anti-internet" , ryazbeck besides, even if I could buy online, I'd still probably buy locally unless I could get really good savings online

there's a SND warehouse in the plaza right beside U Waterloo campus

online is the way to go for cheapest prices.

Can drinking water kill you?

Can drinking water kill you?

This was in the NYT today (link - but probably won't work for you). I think it's pretty interesting, and it's surprising this is the first documentation of this. Cliffs: Slow people drink too much water during long races. That drops their sodium concentration in their blood, which can potentially lead to death. April 14, 2005 Study Cautions Runners to Limit Their Water Intake By GINA KOLATA fter years of telling athletes to drink as much liquid as possible to avoid dehydration, some doctors are now saying that drinking too much during intense exercise poses a far greater health risk. An increasing number of athletes - marathon runners, triathletes and even hikers in the Grand Canyon - are severely diluting their blood by drinking too much water or too many sports drinks, with some falling gravely ill and even dying, the doctors say. New research on runners in the Boston Marathon, published today in The New England Journal of Medicine, confirms the problem and shows how serious it is. The research involved 488 runners in the 2002 marathon. The runners gave blood samples before and after the race. While most were fine, 13 percent of them - or 62 - drank so much that they had hyponatremia, or abnormally low blood sodium levels. Three had levels so low that they were in danger of dying. The runners who developed the problem tended to be slower, taking more than four hours to finish the course. That gave them plenty of time to drink copious amounts of liquid. And drink they did, an average of three liters, or about 13 cups of water or of a sports drink, so much that they actually gained weight during the race. The risks to athletes from drinking too much liquid have worried doctors and race directors for several years. As more slow runners entered long races, doctors began seeing athletes stumbling into medical tents, nauseated, groggy, barely coherent and with their blood severely diluted. Some died on the spot. In 2003, U.S.A. Track & Field, the national governing body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking, changed its guidelines to warn against the practice. Marathon doctors say the new study offers the first documentation of the problem. "Before this study, we suspected there was a problem," said Dr. Marvin Adner, the medical director of the Boston Marathon, which is next Monday. "But this proves it." Hyponatremia is entirely preventable, Dr. Adner and others said. During intense exercise the kidneys cannot excrete excess water. As people keep drinking, the extra water moves into their cells, including brain cells. The engorged brain cells, with no room to expand, press against the skull and can compress the brain stem, which controls vital functions like breathing. The result can be fatal. But the marathon runners were simply following what has long been the conventional advice given to athletes: Avoid dehydration at all costs. "Drink ahead of your thirst," was the mantra. Doctors and sports drink companies "made dehydration a medical illness that was to be feared," said Dr. Tim Noakes, a hyponatremia expert at the University of Cape Town. "Everyone becomes dehydrated when they race," Dr. Noakes said. "But I have not found one death in an athlete from dehydration in a competitive race in the whole history of running. Not one. Not even a case of illness." On the other hand, he said, he knows of people who have sickened and died from drinking too much. Hyponatremia can be treated, Dr. Noakes said. A small volume of a highly concentrated salt solution is given intravenously and can save a patient's life by pulling water out of swollen brain cells. But, he said, doctors and emergency workers often assume that the problem is dehydration and give intravenous fluids, sometimes killing the patient. He and others advise testing the salt concentration of the athlete's blood before treatment. For their part, runners can estimate how much they should drink by weighing themselves before and after long training runs to see how much they lose - and thus how much water they should replace. But they can also follow what Dr. Paul D. Thompson calls "a rough rule of thumb." Dr. Thompson, a cardiologist at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut and a marathon runner, advises runners to drink while they are moving. "If you stop and drink a couple of cups, you are overdoing it," he said. Dr. Adner said athletes also should be careful after a race. "Don't start chugging down water," he said. Instead, he advised runners to wait until they began to urinate, a sign the body is no longer retaining water. The paper's lead author, Dr. Christopher S. D. Almond, of Children's Hospital, said he first heard of hyponatremia in 2001 when a cyclist drank so much on a ride from New York to Boston that she had a seizure. She eventually recovered. Dr. Almond and his colleagues decided to investigate how prevalent hyponatremia really was. Until recently, the condition was all but unheard of because endurance events like marathons and triathlons were populated almost entirely by fast athletes who did not have time to drink too much. "Elite athletes are not drinking much, and they never have," Dr. Noakes said. The lead female marathon runner in the Athens Olympics, running in 97-degree heat drank just 30 seconds of the entire race. In the 2002 Boston Marathon, said Dr. Arthur Siegel, of the Boston Marathon's medical team and the chief of internal medicine at Harvard's McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass., the hyponatremia problem "hit us like a cannon shot" in 2002. That year, a 28-year-old woman reached Heartbreak Hill, at Mile 20, after five hours of running and drinking sports drinks. She struggled to the top. Feeling terrible and assuming she was dehydrated, she chugged 16 ounces of the liquid. "She collapsed within minutes," Dr. Siegel said. She was later declared brain dead. Her blood sodium level was dangerously low, at 113 micromoles per liter of blood. (Hyponatremia starts at sodium levels below 135 micromoles, when brain swelling can cause confusion and grogginess. Levels below 120 can be fatal.) No one has died since in the Boston Marathon, but there have been near misses there, with 7 cases of hyponatremia in 2003 and 11 last year, and deaths elsewhere, Dr. Siegel said. He added that those were just the cases among runners who came to medical tents seeking help. In a letter, also in the journal, doctors describe 14 runners in the 2003 London Marathon with hyponatremia who waited more than four hours on average before going to a hospital. Some were lucid after the race, but none remembered completing it. That sort of delay worries Dr. Siegel. "The bottom line is, it's a very prevalent problem out there, and crossing the edge from being dazed and confused to having a seizure is very tricky and can happen very, very fast," he said. Boston Marathon directors want to educate runners not to drink so much, Dr. Siegel said. They also suggest that runners write their weights on their bibs at the start of the race. If they feel ill, they could be weighed again. Anyone who gains weight almost certainly has hyponatremia. "Instead of waiting until they collapse and then testing their sodium, maybe we can nip it in the bud," Dr. Siegel said.

yep

i havent drank water in 10 years cuz I'm so afraid

nathanbx i havent drank water in 10 years cuz I'm so afraid

you have to drink ALOT of water to do this....and that's usually why they have gatorade at marathons instead of water...to replinish your sodium and electrolytes

nic379 you have to drink ALOT of water to do this....and that's usually why they have gatorade at marathons instead of water...to replinish your sodium and electrolytes they don't have gatorade instead of water because they think you're going to die.

they have gatorade at the racess so they can promote gatorade.

you can also be "overhydrated" from drinking too much water w/o exercise. happened to that one college kid, they made him drink and drink and drink water instead of alcohol during a hazing event. kid ended up dying.

Long distance cycling events I'll drink one 22oz bottle of Cytomax or Accelerade per hour 1/2 22oz bottle of water per hour and 3 Endurolytes caps per hour .. this is only for anything over 4 hours though .. less than that I skip the E-caps And for the record Gatorade is shitty at replacing electrolytes, they use it because its cheap (or free) compared to real carbo drinks.

yes. too much water = dliutes your sodium/electrolyte levels so you dont really die of water consumption, you die of not having enough sodium in your body to carry on natural processes

Nitromike Long distance cycling events I'll drink one 22oz bottle of Cytomax or Accelerade per hour 1/2 22oz bottle of water per hour and 3 Endurolytes caps per hour .. this is only for anything over 4 hours though .. less than that I skip the E-caps And for the record Gatorade is shitty at replacing electrolytes, they use it because its cheap (or free) compared to real carbo drinks.

Back at ya jackhole

mike yes. too much water = dliutes your sodium/electrolyte levels so you dont really die of water consumption, you die of not having enough sodium in your body to carry on natural processes Too true. But, this also leads to kidney failure. So, you die of "dirty" blood.

People drink gatorade because the real stuff is thick and disgusting

Soularis People drink gatorade because the real stuff is thick and disgusting ...and not elite enough to drink the 'real stuff'.

mike yes. too much water = dliutes your sodium/electrolyte levels so you dont really die of water consumption, you die of not having enough sodium in your body to carry on natural processes I think it is important to think of it not as diluting sodium/electrolyte levels, and therefore not having enough sodium to carry on natural processes. If I eat some X amount of sodium in a day, and 3 litres of water, or if I eat X amount and drink 20 litres, I'm still gonna have the same sodium levels. The problem is that the the concentration of water in the plasma and extracellular fluids increase to a point where its greater than the water concentration in the intercellular fluid, so the water moves accross the semi pemrmeable membrane to follow its concentration gradient, causing Haemolysis, or the rupture of the cell. Or in the above article, swelling of the swells and where they meet the skull wall. If you are a person scientifically interested in this, the emergency response is to inject the paitent with either mannitol or its isotope D-sorbitol. These particles are too large to move accross the membrane. They increase the osmolarity of the extra cellular fluid, causing water to diffuse out of the cell into the blood stream, relieving the pressure on the brain

BUt yes, diluting electrolyte levels is key to this condition, as decreased osmolarity of blood = increased water concentration

my dad took care of an insane guy who drank wayyyyy too much water and had to go to the icu because his kidneys got fucked

so let me get this straight. you explode on the inside? cool post edd91 I think it is important to think of it not as diluting sodium/electrolyte levels, and therefore not having enough sodium to carry on natural processes. some dumb 16 year old bitch in colorado drank too much water after taking extacy and she died. Natural selection.

nonplus so let me get this straight. you explode on the inside? cool post Yeah your cells can rupture. Take a blood sample and mix in any molar amount of NaCl below 0.154M, the solution will turn red because of the exploded red blood cells. Even when spun in a centrifuge it will remain red

Rory, Esq. Yes, but you can just eat salt or salty foods while you're drinking, and you'll be fine. If you drink a ton of water, your kidneys will fail, too, but that's like 10 gallons, and I'm pretty sure sweat subtracts from that. Eh, if you drink 10 gallons in a substantially short period of time, you will die.

edd91 BUt yes, diluting electrolyte levels is key to this condition, as decreased osmolarity of blood = increased water concentration thanks for reiterating what i said to begin with but very informative post, nonetheless.

too much of a good thing is a bad thing... its all about moderation and finding the balance in life..

is glutamine worth buying? (sp)

is glutamine worth buying? (sp)

heard a lot about it... any one that takes it in here that can explain to me what exactly it does... and if its actually worth buying? and how much does it cost?

naw

see the thing is i have a friend that body builds and he takes it... says it just basically helps something with protein synthesis... or something like that cant exactly remember...

A pt at my gym said to take it if "you don't want to use something as unresearched and unknown as creatine ,but still want to pack on 5-10 lbs of muscle per month"

Up All Night A pt at my gym said to take it if "you don't want to use something as unresearched and unknown as creatine ,but still want to pack on 5-10 lbs of muscle per month" eh he takes creatine and glutamine... so the two together... wheres christophers when i need him lol

waste of $$$

jonno waste of $$$ can you back it up? i mean like explain to me why...

There was a (recent?) study that basicly said it was worthless. Ill try to find the link but Im sure one of the experts will link it first.

whatever shows me proof of it

In conclusion, few studies have demonstrated any sort of conclusive benefit from L-glutamine supplementation in athletes, although the existing evidence does support a small benefit. The most promising effect is a reduced incidence of infection after exhausting exercise, and in this case 5-10 g preworkout and/or postworkout may be effective. It may be especially useful during times of overtraining or high stress, such as on a diet, but this is only in theory. There is little evidence for a direct anabolic or performance enhancing effect of glutamine. http://www.1fast400.com/?ingredients_id=42 References at the bottom. They sell the stuff and dont endorse its effectiveness... that might say something.

guess oyu got me on that one then... wasnt gonna buy it just wondering what it does...

if you drink protein shakes you dont need that shit

well i do... guess that means i dont need it...

it was only proven to help recovery and such when used intraveinously, so unless you plan on hooking up an iv after a workout skip it.

i take creatine and now i am kinda scared.... hows creatine "something unresearched and unknown "

not helping dude

christophers sigh.. creatine is the most researched sports supplement in the entire world. once again, pt's showing why the reputation of them is nothing short of fucking awful. thank u very much

go with Scivation Xtend instead... BCAA's + citrulline malate

Ceaze go with Scivation Xtend instead... BCAA's + citrulline malate agreed...only supplement I havent tried worth trying...

The guy at the gym told me it helps repair muscles faster/better or something..... I like it because it makes my protein shakes really thick .

Socrates The guy at the gym told me it helps repair muscles faster/better or something..... except, it doesn't

Ceaze except, it doesn't Heh, I didn't take their word for it too much.

FredBull well, fuck...i guess i'm gonna go for chris' routine then...not really feeling it but since everybody seems so convinced oh trust me you're going to 'feel' the first day

go_duke21 it works good, you might be a bit sore for soccer the first couple weeks though well see, that's a problem. it's not just for fun, it's actually a sports class in school, i get grades etc. it's awesome but if you do squats 3 times a week that's pretty rough any other decent routines? HST and all that stuff is too complicated, i don't really want to to that! too much # and planning, i just wanna go into the gym and get at it I've been working out for >6 months, wanna gain mass, focus on chest and shoulders

the second squat day is light... more for recovery/reducing soreness

i took christopher's routine, and added some stuff i'd like to work on on tuesday (i've got abs, forearms, bi's, calves).

Here i am Pic of me Rip me a new one

well there i am tell me what I need to work on.

everything

Start heading to the gym

yup everything, keep hitting the gym...... then cut , or you can diet now.

eliktronix everything .

Lol am i really that bad? DO you suggest more cardio. I currently am benching 240 and legs have been out of the picture i strain'd my quad in my alst rugby game. I weigh 175 give or take 3lbs both ways and i am 5.10. I am starting to head tot he gym on a mon tuesday thursday friday schedule now due to no more rugby and no more sports. I read up on the stickies and plan on doing the HIIT and limiting my calorie intake. I was wondering i still go to school and am not able to do 6 meals a day what kind of breakfast and lunches do you guys suggest?

you're really lacking in the chest and trap department. arms look decent i suppose

work on taking a still picture that isnt blurry. I still dont understand how some people can be so terrible at something as simple as taking a picture.

I don't even know about this one. Part of me wants to say cut for two months or so to get rid of the belly and another part of me wants to say that considering where you are now you might as well bulk.

Bulk to 400, than cut. /Christophers

ACURA TL-S I don't even know about this one. Part of me wants to say cut for two months or so to get rid of the belly and another part of me wants to say that considering where you are now you might as well bulk. I bet at this point if he lifts hard and doesnt alter his diet too much (calorie wise) he'll gain muscle mass like crazy

Shamrock well there i am tell me what I need to work on. chest is lacking and it would look worse if u cut at this point, otherwise you just look a little overweight, no biggie. you have more to start w/ than most people on here so thats a plus.

Shamrock Lol am i really that bad? DO you suggest more cardio. I currently am benching 240 and legs have been out of the picture i strain'd my quad in my alst rugby game. deznutz max? that was my last max out, before i went to dumb bells and with those i do about 75 for about 8 reps for 3 sets. I'm really hoping to get stronger My current work out well what i have planned out is Monday: Dumbbell bench press 3x8 seated rows with a straight bar military press with dumbbells and lat pull down Tuesday: Squat calf raises abductors and this other thing for the lower back WEdnesday: HIIT Thursday: Incline on a hammer machine forearm curls the thing where u roll the weight up the rope don't know what it is called and holding the weights up in front of u, and to the sides of u ,don't know what thats called either friday dead lift leg curls leg extension and calf raises with the machine Critique please And i'm currently working on a eating schedule

Arms look good, but you need to eat right and start losing weight. Try doing cardio on your rest days or doing cardio-weight training circuit once a week.

sr20wop more volume perhaps volume as in reps sets? or just overall more lifts?

ACURA TL-S I don't even know about this one. Part of me wants to say cut for two months or so to get rid of the belly and another part of me wants to say that considering where you are now you might as well bulk. did you happen to see the thread i made with progress pictures? what would you have recommended for me? i'm bulking now, but i'm just curious what you thought

beer.. less of it

Shamrock volume as in reps sets? or just overall more lifts? add some more exercises

i'd cut until your 13-14%.. then bulk

so what are a few more excerices i like to keep it purely upper body for the days and legs other days i don't like mixing legs and upper body

DCCapen you're like tize....but with clothes oh man that's fucked up.

So I need gain weight v.adviceforskinnybastage

So I need gain weight v.adviceforskinnybastage

First off, don't laugh guys Now honestly, I'm not too worried about bulking strictly muscularly, because I'm just really that goddamn skinny, but I would obviously prefer muscle over fat. I calculated it through stuff in the archives, and I need to eat roughly ~3000-3200 calories per day to maintain, and let me reiterate that I'm pretty skinny and I eat only 3 meals per day right now, which is a light breakfast before school (cause I'm always running late - ~200 calories max), a cafeteria lunch (I have no clue, maybe ~500-600 calories?), and finally a semi decent meal for dinner which would probably max at about 900 calories. So on a typical day, as you can see, I'm hitting about 2000-2500ish calories (including snacks and stuff). I know that's probably nothing compared to you guys Oh and also I need to point out that I don't have a workout routine right now, but I'm going to be starting that soon (more on that below). Here's where my questions/concerns come in. What kind of meals/etc can I make for myself that have high caloric content? I don't have very much time in the mornings, and even if I boil/fry myself some eggs that's still like 200ish calories yeah? As far as the cafeteria lunch, I don't have much of a choice there because of my meal plan/money constraints. Dinner, yeah. So by typing this out I've kind of answered my own question that I just need to eat more in between meals, which is going to be hard because it's hard for me to get myself to eat when I'm not hungry. Any suggestions there? I guess it's just a mental thing. Now this is going to seem dumb to you guys, but that's kind of my point, I want you guys to point out the flaw in my thinking here Since my main goal is to just gain weight, I'm hesitant to have a regular workout routine because that'll just be burning calories that I'm desperately trying to eat. Plus doesn't working out boost your metabolism? Mine's plenty fast right now Right now I was planning on trying to gain weight as fast as possible, and then work out to tone up/bulk up... is that stupid? As you guys can see I'm a pretty big noob, but I've been through the archives some and I'm still trying to figure out how I'm gonna do all this, so I appreciate any and all responses

newb thread/archives edit and since u have a subs, search for bulking foods, stuff like that

Height/weight/pics?

Ilyusha Height/weight/pics? 5'7" 115 maybe 120 I haven't weighed myself in a bit I don't have pics cause I'm self conscious

CaseLogic 5'7" 115 maybe 120 I haven't weighed myself in a bit I don't have pics cause I'm self conscious Eat until you vomit.

Ilyusha Eat until you vomit. That sentence implies you stop eating after you vomit. Not so. Swallow down your vomit and continue eating (Yes, I'm serious.)

KetchupKing That sentence implies you stop eating after you vomit. Not so. Swallow down your vomit and continue eating (Yes, I'm serious.) What was I thinking..

Wow I'm so excited about doing this

You're not going to lift?.. Have fun being as skinny as you are right now, with a massive gut. It's gonna look extremely funny.

Phlab You're not going to lift?.. Have fun being as skinny as you are right now, with a massive gut. It's gonna look extremely funny. Please leave the thread

CaseLogic Please leave the thread hes right... why do you want to pack mass on so quickly? sports? just eat a ton and lift, you'll be happy you did

NoXeN hes right... why do you want to pack mass on so quickly? sports? just eat a ton and lift, you'll be happy you did He's not 100% right because I asked you guys to tell me what was wrong with my thought process, not to tell me I'm a dipshit/flame me for not working out I was probably gonna be lifting anyways. And I'm not in a particular hurry, I just want to weigh more

CaseLogic He's not 100% right because I asked you guys to tell me what was wrong with my thought process, not to tell me I'm a dipshit for not working out I was probably gonna be lifting anyways. And I'm not in a particular hurry, I just want to weigh more I called you a dipshit? PS, if you want to put on a load of fat (which is exactly what those extra cals will turn into if you don't lift), then go for it. You'll gain "mass", just not any muscle. If you want to improve the way you look, then lift.

Just make sure to get some extra calories on days you lift, problem solved.

Phlab I called you a dipshit? PS, if you want to put on a load of fat (which is exactly what those extra cals will turn into if you don't lift), then go for it. You'll gain "mass", just not any muscle. If you want to improve the way you look, then lift. My point was you didn't have to seem like such an assbag, there are more polite ways of saying things But I appreciate your advice anyways.

Like everyone else said, eating more and not working out will just make you skinny fat. I know this from first hand experience . I like snaking on almonds. They don't fill me up and are pretty calorie dense. A half a cup of almonds has around 300 calories. They should also be easy for you to put in a baggy and bring to school. I also drink shakes for breakfast because I'm not much of a breakfast person. If you mix in the right stuff(oats, flaxseed oil, protein powder) you can get some easy calories.

My 12 year old sister weights 155 lbs..

My 12 year old sister weights 155 lbs..

and i'm getting really concerned about her health. she doesnt exercise much, and spends too much time watching TV. she eats a lot of junk and snack food too. wot can i do to help? words dont seem to do much.. i can see her being obese if she carries on this way. by the way she's 5'6.

But I'm guessing there's junk food around all the time. Where are the parents? I commend you for caring and wanting to do something, but unless you are very close or are used to bossing her around, the parents have to do something. Like stop buying junk food and turn off the TV

my parents dont seem to be that concerned.. sometimes they'll yell at her for eating junk food and stop her.. but the next day its bak to normal. wot about exercising wise? wot is suitable for a 12 year old to do? i cud tag her along to my gym sometimes.. make her jog the treadmill or something?

If you can get her to the gym with you, then yeah have her do any kind of aerobic activities regularly. If you can pull her away from the tv for an hour a day she'll be fine. Go for bike rides with her, I was a bike riding freak growing up. You get tons of exercise and don't even realize it. I could ride for hours and hours and not even know it.

5'6" and 145lbs... She's not that overweight I don't think, she has some things men do not have (butt and boobs)...

Take a walk with her every once and a while or play a game that she likes to play. Telling her what to do and not to do wont help. You have to show her through things that she enjoys. But just get her outside and doin stuff. As for her diet, you have to get that junk food out of the house, ill assume taht your parents are overweight as well so that might be hard. But thats really gonna be the key to her bein healthy. Its great that you are concerned about her! There are to many people who just pass off obesity as being ok, especially in children, that can be devastating.

Da Hell's Oracle 5'6" and 145lbs... She's not that overweight I don't think, she has some things men do not have (butt and boobs)... She's 155, and yeah, that is pretty porky. My little sister (15) is 5'8 and about 110-115. That's pretty thin, but my girlfriend is 5'5 and 128, and would like to lose a few.

i think if she doesnt wanna exercise you'll just have to chase her around with a knife to make her run, and dont stop until she starts to sweat. After a while she'll just start running without any negative encouragement needed.

thanks for the input people. do fatter people tend to sweat more? cuz she sweats easily without even doing much work..

yes they sweat more easily

My GF is 5'6" and 113. At 155, she'd look pretty fat. My suggestion would be to try and get her interested in sports or other activities that will get her more active. Unlike boys, girls tend to not lose their "baby fat" when they hit high school. So you're right to be concerned for her now. Good luck.

Tell your parents to stop surrounding her with junk food. She's too lazy to be working, so I know she's not paying for it.

waylander Tell your parents to stop surrounding her with junk food. She's too lazy to be working, so I know she's not paying for it. and we have a wiener

she's 5'6 and 155? Damn for a 12 year old thats huge. I mean all around, tall and heavy. I can relate to this, my little bro is 12 and he's a tad overweight but he's active, he plays hockey. Actually when he's not playing hockey, he's on the computer or watching TV eating doritos and crap. Its my parents that put him on this diet. WHat can you do?

being her big brother and all, i think you should just eat all the junk food in the house yourself, so she doesnt have any junk food to eat.

HOLY SHIT!!!! tell her to start respecting her body, the sooner she starts the better. and tell your parents to stop buying that shit and leaving it around the house.

This topic is 13 months old. My sister's weight has increased since from 155lbs to 170lbs

don't worry she is just bulking

kingfaz This topic is 13 months old. My sister's weight has increased since from 155lbs to 170lbs You have a panoramic camera? is so pics? Reguardless, this is bordering neglect/child abuse at this point. Hide the fucking little debbies! Do something, seriously.

you cant tell a 12 year old shit about dieting. basically its your parents fault for putting shit food in the house. wanna know my suggestion? accept it. shes going to get fatter and you're right, she'll eventually be obese and it'll probably be right around freshman year in HS. theres nothing you can do about it because if you nag her to get her to exercise and eat right she'll just get pissed at you. what your parents need to do is lay down some fucking guidelines and buy good food. allow 1 hour of TV per day, she chooses the hour and this must be very restricted, same should go for computer. or she can choose between computer/tv. she must limit her calories and start exercising 4 - 5 times per week. i think if your parents cared at all about hers and their own diets theyd stop buying shitty food but its obvious they dont, so theres nothing you can do but just accept it and live your own life

My 12 year old sister weights 155 lbs..

Winnie-V: Need Info

Winnie-V: Need Info

I've been trying to shed these last few pounds (currently 6'1 215, looking to get around 195-200) and a buddy of mine just recommended Winnie-V (he has a connection to really a quality product). I've been trying to find some good info on it and havent had much luck so far. I just want to know if it is effective and if taken as dosage recommends, what are the side effects? (i dont plan on stacking it with deca or anything and i will continue my current lifting/college sport regimen)

Pharmaceutical Name: Stanozolol Chemical structure: 17 alpha-methyl-5alpha- androstano [3,2-c]pyrazol-17 beta-ol Molecular weight of base: 344.5392 Characteristics: TThis is another one of the popular ones. Next to Deca and D-bol the third most abused substance among athletes is stanozolol, as documented by the many positive drug tests. Among them the case sprinter Ben Johnson, who was stripped of his Gold Medal in the 100 meter dash in the 1988 Olympics. But since then the number of positives has grown exponentially. In bodybuilding Shawn Ray's positive in the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic (a brief stint the IFBB had with drug testing). Ray was the winner of that event, but Canadion pro Nimrod King was also shown to have stanazolol metabolites in his urine. That short paragraph to illustrate what sort of an impact it has made on the world of sports. Stanozolol is commonly referred to as Winny, after its trade name as marketed by Winthrop : Winstrol. In Europe this may be a bit confusing as the most available form there is called Stromba. Winny comes in two forms, an injectable form and an oral form. Both are equally popular and both are to be used daily. The injections are the same compound as the orals, which is methylated. Due to this feat it can't be esterified for time-release. So its not quite suited for weekly injections although this is claimed on the package insert of the veterinary form of Winny. Another thing that would further add to the difficulty of time-release is that it is delivered in an aqueous solution. That would not exactly facilitate the entry into adipose tissue, needed for the esterification and storage of the substrate in the body. The injectable version often gives more results. In similar doses there is still more breakdown upon first pass in the liver, making it difficult to get an equal amount absorbed. And on top of that it has to be mentioned that most people simply don't take an equal amount. Too many pills, lesser availability, higher cost. Many factors play a role in that. But of course an oral is to be preferred over daily injections as that gives the necessary complications as well. Think of abscesses and lumps, the searching for new injection sites due to pain and so on. Some have solved this problem by simply drinking the Winny injections. It's the same substance, also methylated to withstand the liver, the availability and price are better and its contained in water. So there really aren't many objections to this. Of course because they are the same substance, regardless of the method of use, its not advised to use Winny for long periods of time. Slightly less hepatoxic than most 17-alpha alkylated substrates, so it can be used a bit longer, as long as 8 weeks, but longer than that is not wise. Elevation of liver values is quite common. The specificity of Winny however, lies in how it counteracts estrogenic side-effects such as gyno and excess water retention. First of all it's a 5-alpha reduced substrate. 5-alpha reduction breaks the double bond between positions 4 and 5, which is required for conversion to estrogen via aromatase, the primary enzyme for the manufacture of estrogen in males. Because some of these compounds nonetheless show some affinity for aromatase they may have some use in blocking estrogen from other steroids they are stacked with. Wether or not Winny acts in this way is not entirely sure. What has been a popular point of discussion with stanozolol is its suggested anti-progestagenic effects. The theory goes that Winny can bind and compete for a position at the progesterone receptor much like Clomid of Nolvadex would at the estrogen receptor, thereby inhibiting progestagenic effects. Now, progesterone can aggravate estrogenic side-effects by agonizing estrogen and it does play a role in gyno. We also discussed that certain steroids may indeed stimulate and act at the height of the progesterone receptor including nandrolone and Norethandrolone. These hormones are also altered by it inducing a decrease in libido and a sense of lethargy and such, and eventhough they aromatize in lesser rates than some other steroids, they show an equal capability to cause estrogenic side-effects, particularly when stacked with other aromatizable compounds. Now there is evidence that Winny does indeed bind to the progesterone receptor1 and its users do not indicate the normal characteristics of progesterone stimulation, which bodes well for these anti-progestagenic properties. There is also some clinical data that it does aid in symptoms that require progesterone suppression2. Much in the way danazol was also successfully used. The one thing we shouldn't lose sight of however is in what rate it binds to the progesterone reception. There is no data on this. For all we know it couldn't bind strong enough to compete with nandrolone or norethandrolone. So its not wise to state that Winny is an anti-progestagin per se, but it does make Winny a good match for these products in stacks in any case. Strong gains are never really made while using stanozolol (it's a weak androgen since it has no 3-keto group needed for androgen binding), but decent and fairly easy to maintain gains are possible. Its limited time of use however makes most experienced users opt for other steroids in that regard. Winny, in bodybuilding circles at least, is used mostly during cutting cycles to maintain mass. Winstrol, like a DHT compound also gives a distinct increase in muscle hardness and striations in people with a low body-fat percentage. This lends further credence that it too may be a an anti-estrogen. But most likely it has more to do with the overall lower levels of circulating estrogen. Winny is also quite effective at promoting strength because it binds very well at the androgen receptor. Short term stanozolol use can promote drastic strength, a feat often employed early in a bulking cycle (although d-bol would be more suited in that case) or late in a cutting cycle to prevent a decrease in performance. This combined with the red blood cell count-stimulating properties of its androgen affinity make it popular among track athletes as well in order to beget better results. As many, including Ben Johnson, did not take into account it can be detected for quite some time after last use so its not advisable for drug tested athletes. Many have assumed otherwise due to the short half-life, but apparently some inactive metabolites are easily esterified, so they can be found up to 5 months after the last injection. Winny is mostly quite well-tolerated in men. Cramps, headaches, elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels and liver damage are noted, but on a not so-frequent basis. Standard virilization symptoms associated with the stimulating of the androgen receptor, however, are a problem. Acne, prostate hypertrophy and an aggravation of male pattern baldness can occur, so use by women has to be discouraged. Due to the frequent rate of injections, users generally have to go spotting for different sites of injection on the body. Calves, shoulders, arms and such. When doing so they noted a localized increase in mass which has given root to the myth that Winny can add muscle where it is injected. What I'm about to say goes for all compounds known to date : Steroids do not increase mass locally. The observance is noted because the injection breaks the fascia around the muscle, which possibly gives a muscle a little more room to grow. This is mostly temporary, and in the best cases very limited. Multiple injections would not increase the size in comparison. When the fascia heals, if it heals, it can lead to something called compartments syndrome, where a nerve is pinched between a muscle and its fascia. Leading to numbness quite often and in some cases to a paralysis of everything that nerve controls. This is not a frequent occurrence. This is rare, but my point was documenting that localized growth spurred by an injection is a myth. A last note about injectable Winny is : shake before use. Its called an aqueous solution, but the Winny being a steroid is not particularly polar, meaning it doesn't dissolve in the water. When the stuff sits, it will accumulate at the bottom of the vial. A good way to recognize the real stuff as well. So shake before you draw it into a syringe or mix it before you drink it, and perhaps even stir it again once in the syringe prior to injection. Stacking and Use: Winstrol is best used at a rate of 50 mg a day. When in an injection that amounts to a single injection every day around the same time. In orals, that'll be at least 5 tabs of a legit product. In a mass stack Winny makes a good match for Deca and Nilevar. Whether or not its anti-progestagenic effects are for real or not, lets just say it can't hurt. In any stack with Deca the use of 25-50 mg a day for the first 6-8 weeks of the stack can kickstart it and add some strength. With Nilevar there is a practical objection because it is also 17-alpha alkylated and more toxic than Winny, so your stack would be limited to 6 weeks, which is not overly productive. The pink ones are Anabol (Dianabol) and the yellow ones are Stanabol (Winstrol). These are very popular right now. They are 5 mg tabs and they sell for less than 30 cents a tab. For cutting purposes Boldenone, Masteron and trenbolone are the best options. If you are employing a longer stack, then use 25-50 mg of Winny for 6 weeks or so at the end of the stack. Boldenone is the best match here as the other two do basically the same thing. They act solely or mostly at the androgen receptor. Making them poorer choices since simply upping the dose of Winny would mostly achieve similar results. Of course neither is methylated, which allows for longer use. There is no need for an anti-estrogen as Winny may have such a property of its own and does not aromatize at any rate. The only counter-indication with Winny would perhaps be an anti-hypertensive if you use for a longer stack. Be sure to get liver values checked if you use for longer than 6 weeks on end. There is no real use for Clomid or Nolva post-cycle for Winny specifically since there is no post-cycle aromatisation to cause negative feedback. That makes whatever gains you made on Winny quite easy to maintain. you should be able to lose the weight with the right diet and enough cardio. if your diet isnt in check you probably wont lose it on winny

you are not experienced enough

there is no steroid that will cut bodyfat on its own, im sorry you've been misinformed.

k for example i do chest monday wed fri like hardcore... i dunno if thats enough time to let my muscles build back up and what not... but is it more beneficial to do bench once a week or... 3 times a week... if you want to get stronger...?

2x a week is about ideal for most people. However, most people don't understand the concept of reducing volume, so stick with 1x a week until you have learned a lot more about training.

wtfchest

??

it was an example

superbri007 assuming your a n00b, i've been told you have no business training a body part more then once a week. actually, it's the opposite. Noobs should do full body or upper/lower splits

Ceaze actually, it's the opposite. Noobs should do full body or upper/lower splits not a newb... i mean i've been lifting for sports... and what not so i am somewhat decent for my size...

like this... max for bench is 215... dunno for squats but i rep at 255... mmm then theres a lot more that i do...

btw... i'm 5'11 and weigh like 170...

XsLiCk like this... max for bench is 215... dunno for squats but i rep at 255... mmm then theres a lot more that i do... then you're a noob

how? just curious what makes me a newb?

you're numbers really dont mean anything (they aint that great either) the fact is you do not know what you're doing making.

can you elaborate a little bit more?

XsLiCk k for example i do chest monday wed fri like hardcore... i dunno if thats enough time to let my muscles build back up and what not... but is it more beneficial to do bench once a week or... 3 times a week... if you want to get stronger...? every thing you just said.

Ceaze actually, it's the opposite. Noobs should do full body or upper/lower splits what magic artical tells you this? Building a base is what its all about. Some of you guys like to reinvent the wheel but sorry I will take any noob and train him my way vs your way and lets see who comes out on top. Full body is fucking pointless and training a noob twice a week is nothing more then a nervous system shocker. You get overtrained twice as fast. Then again its my opionion vs whoever your about to cut and paste

Up All Night Then why did you support Christopher's base routine? Thats 3 days of full body workouts christophers wasnt twice a week, or at least i thought it wasnt?

Perplexed It includes squats 3 times a week and bench pressing 2 times a week yes but look at his volume, its not full blown routines, also the people i said it was good for were not straight noobs. They had some time in the gym. Notice Im not passing off his routine to anyone, I do all my own privately for people.

Perplexed You do? Do you charge?

PurEvl what magic artical tells you this? Building a base is what its all about. I have moved out of the basement

I have moved out of the basement

After an extremely sketchy ten days of discomfort at my usual basement location, the wind has blown my skinny ass to the gym. It was a good 7wks or so of lifting in the basement, but after enough complaints to keep the noise down and constant interruptions from everybody in the house, it became clear that I need to go elsewhere to get better results. I'll post current pics of myself probably tomorrow to see how little I exaggerate. I've gained 20lbs over 7wks standing in front of the fridge and my clothes fit a little better, but I'm still a rake.

superbri007 Did you have a spotter in your basement, I personally would not go as heavy as possible by myself, don't wanna pass out or get pinned, etc. my uncle spots me. he's also going back to lifting after a looong hiatus, but he's being a bitch and won't gym with me.

superbri007 Did you have a spotter in your basement, I personally would not go as heavy as possible by myself, don't wanna pass out or get pinned, etc. and at first, I thought you meant you were living in your basement or are you?

Okay as promised, I found a pic I snapped real quick about a week ago. I have a long way to go.

So how come you just started lifting? Getting in shape for summer?

i like your attitude

Socrates So how come you just started lifting? Getting in shape for summer? when i was 11-13 i used to use those starter weights your parents would give for christmas just to see if they'd be touched. i used to do be heavy into track up until junior in hs, then it was all about booze and pussy. i developed full-blown asthma, and diabetes runs through our family. so instead of becoming like the rest of the old family, i stopped smoking altogether, drinking is minimized to absolute interest (i have little nowadays), and i'm back to being active in sports.

im not complaining but...

im not complaining but...

the week before i started bulking, i did alot of cardio to kinda flush my system out. durring this time i lost about 7 lbs of water weight. ever since ive been eating like a hoss and lifting almost every day. im 160 and consume at least 3000 cals a day w/ an ample amount of protein. but every time i step on the scale i get progressively lighter. when i look in the mirror it seems im losing fat and gaining muscle. now i am in no way sad if this is happening but from what ive read, if you are gaining muscle, you tend to gain fat along with it. could i really be gaining muscle and lose this much fat in an excess of calories? or is it newb gains? or should i just try and choke down more calories in a day? because with the amount of weight ive lost it couldnt possibly be all water weight.

3000 cals is barely maintenance if that for someone who works out. Up the food intake.

its so much harder eating after quitting weed, i usually eat b/t 4-5k cals a day since ive started w/ the very least being 3k. should i be shooting for like at least 4500/day? god i hope my appetite comes back soon

4k-4.5k sounds about right

crucialkc 4k-4.5k sounds about right werd, im well on my way to reach that goal today

if it helps to eat more when yo usmoke, then smoke and eat a fuck load, and work your way up to like 6k

ryazbeck if it helps to eat more when yo usmoke, then smoke and eat a fuck load, and work your way up to like 6k It'd be much more beneficial to not smoke, your appetite will come back within a week or two. Keep doing cardio for a little while it will be easier to stay quit.

yes but this guy isn't , so therefore he needs to up his calories you fucking chimp

ryazbeck if it helps to eat more when yo usmoke, then smoke and eat a fuck load, and work your way up to like 6k o believe me, i would loooove a nice fat blunt right now but the cops are all up on my ass and my school is drug testing me sum time this week, so i gotta lay low 4 a while.

XsLiCk i'm telling you stop giving head to your bf! taht answers it all

if you feel like you are gaining muscle and losing fat why would you fuck with your diet?

XsLiCk no 1 smiley post.

jonno if you feel like you are gaining muscle and losing fat why would you fuck with your diet? i figure if im not in enough of an excess to be gaining fat at the same time, i cant possibly making the maximum gains my body is capable of.

XsLiCk i'm telling you stop giving head to your bf! taht answers it all hmm that might be the problem....thanks for the advice ian! but wont u feel lonely when yer not getting any more slob on yer knob?

well what are your goals? if you're trying to look better, and you think you're looking better, then I dont see a problem. Beyond that I'd almost think you'd need to monitor bodyfat levels to really see where you are beyond your weight alone.

tize you need to up your calories bitch nah I don't, since january I've put on 22lb quite easily.

velamint well what are your goals? if you're trying to look better, and you think you're looking better, then I dont see a problem. Beyond that I'd almost think you'd need to monitor bodyfat levels to really see where you are beyond your weight alone. my ultimate goal is a cut 180lbs, but im looking to put on lean mass (and whatever comes with it) as fast as possible so that i can cut. i dont plan on making a cut 180 after this bulking cycle, il probably end up bulking through august and then cut down after that (or after my upper abs disappear, whichever comes first). im not a patient person but im patient enough to put in the effort to get the results i need, i just want to do it the most efficient way possible, especially since it will be a much faster cutting cycle with more muscle mass burning off calories. i have a bullshit bf calculating scale and have been looking for calipers all over but Dick's, Sports Authority, and Omega sports havent had even one pair. basically im trying to look better but for the future, presently im just working towards my goal w/o worrying about extra fat. ive lost 50 lbs before and im prepared to do it again edit: id be interested what christophers had to say
