Training for endurance instead of strenght and mass?

Training for endurance instead of strenght and mass?

I'm new to the world of training but after getting back on my dirtbike today for the first time since winter I realized how completely out of shape I am. I am plenty strong and already pretty thin with little to no fat on me. My question is what kinds of exercises should I do to build Endurance instead of strenght and mass. I know that with more strength comes endurance, but in the sport of motocross it pays to be as light as possible. My plan is to just do 30-45 minutes of cardio every single day wearing all of my riding gear to simulate the extra weight and also heat retention. I plan to do my cardio on a Healthrider machine (Don't laugh, it's all i've got, and 30 minutes on it when it's 90 outside will put a workout on you) but I was also wondering what kind of exercises besides cardio I can do to help out with endurance in my arms/wrists/fingers as these are the first parts of my body to wear out. It actually gets to the point that I can't even pull in my clutch lever no matter how bad I want to because my whole arm is numb. My fingers and wrists go completely numb to the point that it hurts to move them at all for about 5 minutes after I pull off the track. Any ideas on how to improve forearm endurance without adding mass, because adding mass will actually cause my arms to pump up quicker.

I broke my hand...

I broke my hand...

I got into a fight early Sunday morning and punched someone and broke my hand. It's like a boxer fracture. I actually lifted lightly Monday and it kinda hurt. I finally got an x-ray, because I wasn't sure if it was broken or not, and sure enough, there was a small fracture on my pinky in my left hand. I guess what my point is here, will I still be able to lift? Should I take a break? I go to the doctor on Thursday to get it put into a cast/splint/whatever they decide, and he should tell me the amount of time I should be out. What do you guys think I should do? How long do you think I will be out? I'm really dissappointed in myself and the fact that I won't be able to go to the gym. I've made some awesome gains over the last six-seven months, and do not want to see them go down the tube.

You shouldnt fight. Other than that im not a doctor so I dunno

Silver85327 You shouldnt fight. Other than that im not a doctor so I dunno Yeah, I know that much, it was a dumb decision, but I was provoked.

superbri007 sucks man. pics? I'll get the x-rays up sometime this week. It's not terrible, but it might keep me out for a couple weeks.

when I jacked my shoulder, I just did legs

That's not a boxer's fracture. You just broke your pinky. You need to get a cast for that pink asap and stop lifting for a year. Seriously stop lifting until it heals or else it'll never heal.

Seriously stop lifting until it heals or else it'll never heal. ehhh that happened to me. i just said fuck it and kept lifting through the pain and whatnot. my hand looks a little fucked up but at least i dont really care. i mean you can barely tell.... Ignore my previous advice.... just let the thing heal good luck

When I was 17, I fractured my ankle and was playing basketball in my cast 2 weeks later. Animal pride.

Ilyusha When I was 17, I fractured my ankle and was playing basketball in my cast 2 weeks later. Animal pride. shit man i had surgery on my elbow for a pinched nerve and was playin basketball again in 2-3 weeks. doc was pissed at me since it was supposed to be in a sling for a good couple months. maybe thats why my bench is soooo weak

If you don't have insurance, don't waste your money going to the doctor. I spent hundreds of dollars for a doctor to tell me that hand bones tend to heal themselves pretty well, and then gave me a splint that I took off after a day. If it's just a small fracture that doesn't really move, just give it some time and it'll heal itself. Here's what mine looked like. Don't mind the dark line that makes it look like my whole hand is broken. I took the picture with the xray held up to the sky, and that's a flag pole in the background. The fracture is circled on my ring finger. IBFathands

Do things that don't require putting a lot of stress on your hands... even if it's just lower body.

Did you at least win the fight?

Broken Hand Crew! Cucumber: Lay off for at least a month, and maybe do legs or something. It sounds like your break wasn't that bad at all, but if you try and do too much with it you could make it alot worse. I had a break somewhat similar to parvo's, except it was the metacarpal connecting to my pinky, and it was shattered, and the one connecting to the ring finger was just slightly fractured. I had to have surgery, and it took two and a half months before I could even make a fist again, let alone lift without enduring pain on par with childbirth. I'm at month four and a half now, and I'm lifting pretty well, but several lifts still hurt pretty bad. Just gotta take it easy Oh well, at least now my fist is reinforced with titanium.

Brett95GST Did you at least win the fight? Yeah, I sure did. Background information being I'm about 6'4 220 and these two guys are both about 5'8" 150. There was a party at my house, and of course there was a keg. These two guys were in my room and they knocked my brand new bicycle off the wall. I asked them who did it, and they denied it. Didn't say sorry or anything. Then one of them (these guys are brothers, ages 19 and 21) told me to "suck his asshole" and I grabbed him and shoved him into the wall forcefully and told him to STFU and get out of my house. The older brother threw a full beer can and hit me in the head with it, then the younger one hit me in the side of the head, knocked me on my bed, which I jumped off of and hit the younger one in the eye and gave him six stiches. This hit was the one that broke my hand. I then hit the older one in the face about four times with my right hand before someone got him out of my room for fear that I'd do any more damage. I stand in my room for a few minutes and collect myself, then I head outside. I see the older brother still there, his face obviously battered, and I tell him to leave or I'll hit him again. He tried to mutter something, but I wasn't hearing it, so I grabbed him by his ears and head-butted him. The force of my head-butt knocked him down. After this, he left to my continuous drunken shit-talking. That's that. It sucks that this had to happen, but I was just defending myself. I usually don't like throwing punches, but oh well.

My break looks similar, except it is on the pinky finger.

good party? how old are you?

Bush77 good party? how old are you? Great party...I turn 21 in two weeks.

Well, it was about a week and a half before I decided to get it checked out, and about 3 weeks after that before I could really use my hand to do light workouts, and I'd say about 2 months before it was 100%.

Sounds like you whooped some major ace...good job.

superbri007 no adamantium like wolverine no care actually, sorry you had to go through all that, but thats still kinda cool, You must be able to knock out in one punch I'll let you know how my reinforced fist works out... as soon as it stops bothering me like an enflamed hemmoroid. Right now, I don't think I could knock out Ashley Olsen without falling to the floor and crying from the fetal position. It's gonna be six more weeks before I can even THINK of even punching a heavy bag. Cucumber, you're lucky you didn't completely fuck up your hand. Throwing multiple punches was what made my hand turn to mush. It was a right bodyshot that nailed the guy's hip that really sealed the deal for me. Hope you heal faster than I am.

Cold Cereal vs. Oatmeal

Cold Cereal vs. Oatmeal

Alright, so here is a good match up. According to the "Diets (The Second Course)" thread, cold cereals are viewed as breakfast candy and oats are beloved. Oats are oats but there are many cold cereals out there. What is the best cold cereal out there? Currently I am eating: Special K: serving size = 1 1/4 cup. 110 cal. 5 g protein. 22 g carbs. 0 g fat. Vector: serving size = 1 1/4 cup. 215 cal. 5.5 g protein. 44 g carbs. 2.8 g fat. This is in comparison to: Instant-Oatmeal Packets Quaker Regular Oatmeal "With 100% Whole Grain Quaker Oats" "No Sugar Added" Serving = 1 pouch (32 g) . 120 cal. 4 g protein. 21 g carbs. 2 g fat. So which one is better?

I"m not sure which one is better. Isn't the cold cereal more simple carbs and the oatmeal complex carbs????

Fruity Pebbles

Not sure about this, but my best guess is that Oatmeal give you a steady insulin release for a longer period of time (making you feel fuller, longer). As for the Vector cereal and such, mostly sugar, which we all know gives you a large insulin spike (not keeping you full for long). Please, someone correct me if i'm wrong...

Gutrat, that's pretty much it. Plus oatmeal has more fiber than most cereals = feel full longer.

More fiber. Plus you can use water + oatmeal instead of milk + cereal

Kashi cereal

Special K is shit and doesnt give you anything. If you have to eat a cereal go with one really high in fibre like Raison Bran. Oatmeal is the best to eat though.

oatmeal>* unless you're just in a cereal mood, in that case cocoa crispies/fruity pebbles>*

superbri007 Kashi heart healthy Kashi cereal or Oatmeal > Special K Special K has no fiber and also has High fructose corn syrup..i used to be addicted to Special K

go_duke21 Special K is shit and doesnt give you anything. If you have to eat a cereal go with one really high in fibre like Raison Bran. Oatmeal is the best to eat though. Another good one is Grape Nuts. But oatmeal > cereal. Oats are one of the purest forms of fiber/carbs, so eat up.

You shouldn't use the oatmeal in packets..that's about as bad as breakfast cereal. Regular, plain minute oats or even regular, plain quick oats would be infinitely better. I put cinnamon and a packet of splenda in mine to make it taste better. EDIT: unless, of course, you do have the packets of true plain oatmeal, no sugar, no nothin added; in which case it's a convenience factor. But it's way cheaper to buy the big cardboard tubs of oatmeal and measure it out yourself.

What do you guys think of Weetabix? Slightly better than most cold cereals?

lucky charms

What about 1 1/4 cups of Total Cereal + skim milk?

I have 1/2 cup of All Bran and 1/2 cup of Skim Milk when I eat cold cereal. 1/2 cup of All Bran has 48% of the daily reccomended Fibre intake on a 2000 Calorie/day diet

niXon I have 1/2 cup of All Bran and 1/2 cup of Skim Milk when I eat cold cereal. 1/2 cup of All Bran has 48% of the daily reccomended Fibre intake on a 2000 Calorie/day diet But how on earth is 1/2 cup of cereal filling?

superbri007 i had 2 bowls of count chocula with marshmellows oh, and I've been eating a cinnamon coffee roll every other day for the past month or so...... my gut is getting huge, time to eat cleaner whats going on here superbri

xpinchx But how on earth is 1/2 cup of cereal filling? Its not thats why you also have 4 eggwhites, mixed with 1 cup of mushrooms or the cereal and 3/4 cup of yogurt.

niXon Its not thats why you also have 4 eggwhites, mixed with 1 cup of mushrooms or the cereal and 3/4 cup of yogurt. .5 cup of oatmeal + a lot of water is more filling.

AznRyda .5 cup of oatmeal + a lot of water is more filling. Have you ever had All Bran ?

niXon Have you ever had All Bran ? Yes, it sucks compared to oatmeal.

niXon Have you ever had All Bran ?

niXon Have you ever had All Bran ? that stuff is horrible

New CEE?

I just got my new batch of CEE from 1Fast and this one tastes A LOT different. My last batch was REALLY salty, this batch is REALLY bitter. Two totally different tastes. Both still taste like shit. Anyone else experience this also?

Yup our new material is the shit. They are perfecting the process of making this stuff, finally. That begins to happen when you order enormous amounts (we source for others as well). We explained to them how ass tasting the first batches were and that we had to fix that in order to continue growth

My kilo from custom nutrition warehouse taste sour as hell. nasty shit.

IbOJ

Mine taste like lemonade.

superbri007 discount please uhhh he just dropped the price and yeah there is a noticeable difference between the first batch i got from 1Fast and the recent stuff

I don't feel like starting another thread. How many grams of CEE do you guys take a day?

Need Help Gaining Weight and Muscle

Okay here is my problem I'm a 28 year old male and I'm skinny as all hell. I could pass for 16 probably to be honest. I have tried and tried to gain weight but just can't. I eat and eat and eat and nothing really. I don't really have access to a gym so I have to make do with those weight benches you buy from the store to work out with. This is all good and fine but all it's doing is toning me out not really gaining any mass or muscle. It's downright embarassing to be as skinny as I am and I was curious if anyone knows of any products or excersises or something I can do to get some meat on my bones? I don't want to be like friggin Hulk Hogan or anything but to be in shape and not a twig would be really nice. Thanks for any help you guys can offer without flaming the shit out of me lol.

You THINK you eat a lot. Trust me, I did too. Eat at least 5-6 times a day, REAL food. Chicken, pastas, fish, lots of protein. And you're not going to get big if you don't lift hard. Period. Look around, there are some good writeups. Also, check your PMs

is muscle memory legit? it sure seems to be but

details?

maybe to a certain point.

uhh what details are needed

what do you mean by muscle memory? like with your workout pattern or if you stop for a few days? im confused

yes, it's legit. I took off 3 months due to injury and dropped to 198-200 from 223. Then came back to 223 in about a month, now 227

oh trust me, i don't hesitate to believe it, i'm in the exact same boat as you. just seems like a strange physiological process. anyone have a scientific take on it?

It is easier to regain your strength/size than it is to gain them initially, but it's not because your muscles literally remember anything

i swear i knew this, the memory part was just wigging me out

How much of that 10 months was used to bulk?

ChutUps That is awesome broly. How much of that 10 months was used to bulk? middle of september through the end of january. For the first few months i didnt really bulk but i had some good noob gains. this picture was taken at the end of bulking http://www.massoh.com/~chris/jan27.jpg I'm really looking forward to bulking again, i think i've learned a lot since then and i'm going to do much better next time around

Very nice progress SteveO.

dmaestro why are your armpits yellow? do your armpits smell so horrid they turn your pits yellow? I'm allergic to my deoderant, but I still use it, in hopes that my body will adapt.

DCCapen adapt? I dont think it works that way, thats like saying you adapt to poison Ivy dude..

I'll post my 2 week progress on Wednesday.

pokesteve stevo... 50 pounds of muscle in 8 months? no offense but may i ask what supplements you were using? Started: 155 lbs, 2 years ago Ended: 223 lbs, recent That's 60 lbs in two years.

pokesteve he said 175 to 223 in 8-9 months in his thread... thats 48 pounds! 6 pounds of muscles added every month! wtf It can be done.

pokesteve impressive nonetheless im betting prohormone , stevo care to share your typical bulking diet? im around your starting weight of 175 and never can seem to bulk right, always too much or too little.... As far as I know, Steve eats like 7k calories/day when he bulks.

pokesteve holy shit that must be so expensive At least half is liquid form, so it's not that expensive.

Liquid?

y0gfx Liquid? Protein shakes with other ingredients in them.

there you go, 8200 btw and no, it's really not expensive. I don't eat most of the foods you guys eat, for carbs it's only oats and wheat bread. Shakes are dirt cheap, usually a weeks worth runs me half tub of whey, some powdered milk, 2 jars of natty PB, and a cannister of oatmeal, and 2 bundles of bananas. Protein sources are cheap too, mainly bulk cottage cheee and bulk turkey meatballs would be my main sources

jonno - amazing! dont recall seeing your before pics ever
