F&N Dudes.. Is My Protein Drink Any Good?

F&N Dudes.. Is My Protein Drink Any Good?

Hiya all.. I've bought some whey protein power.. which I assimilate into semi-skimmed milk (low fat) to make a protein drink. Pictures below.. basically I just want to know whether this stuff is decent or not. 100g of powder contains 75.5g of protein. I take 44-66g of powder (30-50g of protein) in each drink I make, plus 10-15g of protein from the 250-375 ml of milk, once a day. So my total protein from the shake varies beteen 40g and 65g. Is it ok just to drink once, with lots of powder? or would it be better to take 2 smaller quantities at different times of the day? Am i getting too much of the protein from whey? Does it matter? I weight 170lbs so need 170g of protein daily..

yes its fine. I just finished that very brand.

Filmboy44 yes its fine. I just finished that very brand. How much did it cost u? I know things are different between the UK and the USA, but I payed the equivelent of $19 USD. It was on a half price sale.

Job change: may not have the opp. to go to a gym now...

I go to the gym to maintain my weight... not to get muscular, but just not to get fat. I am considering cancelling going to the gym all together because I do not think I will have time and/or opportunity to go to the gym once I start. Do you feel that I will stay in shape as much if I do workout videos? For instance, I like the Comcast On Demand videos a lot. I am wondering if going TO a gym will make a difference or if I can stay in just as much shape doing videos. Thanks

What do you currently do when you go the gym?

If you just go to "not be fat", doing bodyweight training and cardio at home with a good diet would probably be sufficient. Not as good as going to the gym though.

Just buy a stairstepper or a treadmill for your house/apartment.

If general fitness and weight management are your interests, there is plenty of shit you can do outside of a gym. Cardio stuff is obvious (walk, jog, bike or get an elliptical, treadmill, etc...). For strength training, look for a book called "The Naked Warrior" by Pavel Tsatsouline... strength training concepts, routines, and exercises using bodyweight and a minimal amount of equipment.

There is *always* time to go to the gym, imo. I've never stopped going, not even during my working two jobs, 14 hours a day phase that lasted a year. If you really want to, you'll find the time somehow..and of course there's the other options people have put forth about in-home stuff.

I agree, but I am also thinking that it would be extra nice to save myself the money as well, because I am SEVERELY lacking in funds... to answer NickStam, I use the treadmill/stairmaster/some yellow cardio machine for a little while, and then I use the machine weights for abs, legs and arms... I dont do a whole hell of a lot at the gym, i spend a max. of about 45 mins there... thats why Im thinking it may be an equally as effective/cheaper way to keep myself in shape ... but im not really sure, so thats why Im asking you guys

If you shop, you can probably find used weights somewhere for even cheaper. And running/walking outside is free

freeskiwp yeah, what he said.

jonno *chuckles* It's cool, I'd rather be thought a guy half the time here anyways I just do find it funny because to me, Elfling is not a very manly name.

And running/walking outside is free sounds good... at least I know if I DO make the decision to drop the gym and just do videos and stuff on my own, it wont make a huge difference from what I do at the gym

spending money on a gym, might be more motivation for you to go...

im sorry elfling .im retarded

MikeTheVike1 spending money on a gym, might be more motivation for you to go... thats what I thought, and it worked for about 6 mos, but since the payment for the gym isnt making a HUGE dent in my budget, Ive realized that I just kinda "figure" my way out of the payment now.... I consider it less out of my paycheck now rather than less out of my take-home, if that makes any sense... I I guess Im just looking for words of encouragement as far as dropping the gym and doing it on my own... I almost have my mind made up, but Im looking for someone to tell me its a GREAT idea or HORRIBLE idea, based on the facts ive given

Pushups, Hindu squats, upsidedown pushups, there is always an option.

I don't know about everyone else, but paying for a gym motivates me to go. I spend xx amount of dollars a month for equipment that I'd better be using. If I didn't spend a dime, I'd probably be sitting home doing pushups and situps thinking I'd get massive. But the fact that I pay motivates me. I think if you can, just try to continue going to a gym w/ a (paid?) membership so that you'd have a reason to go out. Plus, while you're there you get to have a certain mentality that you might not be able to achieve at home. If you're not looking at that route, I think that motivation would be key in terms of working out several times a week. So maybe get a buddy to run with you or something...I don't know. I'm kind of rambling.

I think allot of it depends on how you get motivated. About 3 years ago I prepaid a gym membership and could never get motivated to go. As a result I never really made any progress and fatened up. I also let the membership lapse after it expired. I finally decided to do something about being out of shape and bought a bench/squat rack and dug out my old free weights. I started working out again on April 1st and have been hugely motivated so far. I'm doing the dreaded cardio by taking my boxer on bikerides 3-4 times a week and lifting 3 nights a week. I've dropped 18 pounds (mostly water i'm sure) so far and I swear I feel stronger. I screwed up and dropped a grip on my gym membership and never used it. I spent $200 on a decent home bench and use it all the time. I even look forward to using it. Food for thought anyway.

My feet are terribly flat-footed. I'm not exactly sure why I made this thread, maybe a support group kind of thread? I don't know, but do you guys have problems with running or injuries? What shoes fit you best? etc etc etc

Im flat footed as well

same here

I use the elliptical when I do any cardio, running on the treadmill makes my feet hurt.

New Balance makes good running shoes for flat footed people. I've also heard good things about Asics but I haven't tried them. I wear New Balance and I also have a set of athletic insoles because I'm extremely flat flooted.

I have flat feet, I wear a size 14-15. I don't have any problems with them

Have a pretty good flat foot also. Nick is right about Asics, thats all I used for anything distance in Track and Field. My sprint spikes were always Nike and distance shoes were always Asics.

I have collapsing arches...ended up getting some custom orthotics and some neutral shoes, still doesnt help out my shin splint and arch pain problems

I'm in also

You all only *think* you're flat footed. I really am though Went in for a flight phsyical and the doc was like...." hmm you have flat feet - that used to be a disqualifier - but now its just a 'variation of normal'" my arches are non-existant

I'm in. I almost got kicked out of boot camp for having flat feet.

In I've got insoles molded to fit my feet... still have knee pains

Backsville (you can see all the newb machines in the background): Latsville: The Bars (got some flat, incline, decline and shoulder): Dumbbells (stop at 100 ): Cables (one of two): Teh Cages (I like how the newbs used them for curls and didn't re-rack): Hammer Strength: Hammer Strength: Upstairs is cardio and aerobics area. I go up there to stretch, do crunchies and take a walk around the track to see if any scenery is on the treadmills.

I wish they had a dip station at my gym. I always go to a leg machine (where you tie a cable to your leg at the ankle) which has two parallel bars for people to stabilize themselves and I do dips off of those. Atleast my gym does have DBs up to 150 (or 140...I haven't really looked at the biggest ones yet).

those 100 lb DB's look giant, those compare to the 200s (in size) at my gym

Shaolin_sword36 says a lot about that gym

SteveO those 100 lb DB's look giant, those compare to the 200s (in size) at my gym Rubber crap. I shouldn't complain though coz rubber doesn't hurt as much during a failure. As for the gym, it's in a very rich area of the southwestern suburbs. Some of the older men are quite built or healthy, but we don't have many brolies. Mostly yuppies in the weight rooms and baby boomers and attractive older golddiggers upstairs. Occasionally there will be some hotties and cool guys my age. The gym just west of the city has a better crowd, and I'll be there soon enough since I'm moving. FYI, this gym is the best Bally's in Minneapolis, and I'll miss it.

Mugwump Rubber crap. I shouldn't complain though coz rubber doesn't hurt as much during a failure. Maybe its just consistency, but the rubber ones feel solid enough that I can go 5 lbs more without even noticing the difference.

Shaolin_sword36 We have those same god damned cages at my gym. They suck cock because the holes for the catches are so far apart. And don't lie, you're the one that was doing the curls.

I use the EZ bars (15 lbs less than the regular barbells).

those cages blow..

y?

Mugwump y? pin layout is awfull

Fuck, nice ballys, ...My Ballys fuckin sucks nuts. Its half of half of that. Jesus its pathetic.

White Fuck, nice ballys, ...My Ballys fuckin sucks nuts. Its half of half of that. Jesus its pathetic. Like I said, it's the nicest Bally's here. We have several of them, and there are some bad ones.

vettedude those cages blow..

They get the job done. Post a pic of a good cage. I'd like to see what I'm missing.

Mugwump They get the job done. Post a pic of a good cage. I'd like to see what I'm missing. for squats / GMs they are fine...

No deadlift platform, no care! Seriously it looks pretty good :P

happens all the time in my school gym

Elfling No deadlift platform, no care! I have to take the bar from the shoulder press bench and do my deadlifts there (barbell shoulder press isn't very popular for some reason). It's kinda sad, but I usually have lots of space.

Thats a nice fucking gym.

damn, that's a nice ballys. all the ballys here in NoVA are prolly 1/4 that size, no lie. well, the weight area is 1/4 that size. the rest is taken up by a pool, indoor track, etc.

looks pretty nice.

Jerry Rice works out at the club I work at

I manage the Front Desk & Valet Departments (Yeah, I know... valet at a fitness club ) so I usually don't head upstairs to the Fitness Area during the busy morning rush. However today I needed to find a certain member of the club in the weight room and was SHOCKED to see Jerry Rice squatting with some of the ugliest squat form I'd ever seen. It blew me away! I thought he was actually going to hurt himself the way he was hunched over. Moreover, I would have assumed that a pro trainer would have taught him some sort of proper form Anyways, I did a double-take Cliffs: Jerry Rice has HORRIBLE squat form

at this point, i think hes done something right.

DCyamaha at this point, i think hes done something right. certainly not weight lifting

SteveO certainly not weight lifting

DCyamaha yeah because hands and vertical leap are impacted so much by weight lifting

He looks like he can squat 900...I woulda never guessed

>>>>>>you And the man has to be in some amazing shape because he's 43 and still contributive in the game. Hell he had a 1200 yard season at age 40. Has to be doing something correct.

Mike McDermott yeah, he knows how to run routes, and he has great hands Yeah but just the simple fact that his body hasn't fallen apart has to count for something.

Ya they only get rocked occasionally, other than that they get off pretty easy.
