No more cardio?

No more cardio?

What do you guys think about this article? http://www.superslow.com/articles/why_not_aerobics.html

1lb of muscle does not burn 75-100 calories a day. Newer theories shows it is probably more like 5-15 cal/day. http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=1677071

I don't think much of the article you posted. Cardio For Bodybuilders "... Sorry guys, but to be a champion in contemporary bodybuilding, one must do cardio. Cardio was not that important back in 1970s and 80s, but it is today. In the early 80's, the average Olympian competitor weighed in around 190 pounds. Today, that figure is over 220. Athletes are not only bigger and more massive, but they also sharper and harder. A prime example is Frank Zane. When Zane competed he was tight, but he competed less than 180 pounds. Try coming in that tight at 225. Twenty years ago, it was about being big and cut. Today, you must be huge and shredded. ...." Bill & Torbjorn's Conversation "... TA: During the past few years, there has been a trend in bodybuilding to omit aerobic exercise. I guess it's partially because there have been some studies showing that resistance training alone is quite effective for burning fat.32 This, as you just mentioned, has led a lot of bodybuilders to think they should skip "cardio" and instead do more of what we do best-lift weights. I don't think this is a good idea, even though it will work for a small percentage of metabolically gifted individuals. A natural bodybuilder just can't handle more than four or five hours of intense weight training per week, but we need more exercise than this to burn fat on the cutting phase of my program. Some people fear that if they do aerobics at all, they'll lose muscle mass. This is not the case. Recent studies [using a sophisticated procedure called "stable isotopes"] have revealed that, "Although aerobic exercise may stimulate muscle breakdown, this does not result in a significant depletion of muscle mass because muscle protein synthesis is stimulated in recovery." ..." Learn why cardio is a must for bodybuilders and what these bodybuilding experts think about cardio. "... John:I'm old school. I've been competing since the 1980's. Back then, cardio wasn't as important as it is today. This past year was the first time that I ever used it as a tool. Prior to beginning my competition diet, I was doing 30 minutes of cardio. Once I started preparing for my show, I increased my time to 60 minutes. I've never done more than an hour. Don't need to. Andre:60 minutes? During the final 6 weeks of my contest prep, I was doing up to 2 hours of cardio a day, an hour in the morning and another hour in the evening. In the off-season, I'll keep it at 30 minutes a day, four days a week. Andrew:Like you John, I never did a lot of cardio in the past. But Steve Weinberger at Bev Francis' Gold's Gym encouraged me to do more and it has paid off. My routine is like yours Andre. I do cardio twice a day, for a total of two hours. About 60 minutes on the treadmill in the morning and another 60 minutes or so on a stationary bike in the evening. In general, I set the treadmill on a 10% grade. When I'm 3 weeks out of the show, I'll bump up or tone back my cardio, depending on how I look in the mirror. ...." http://bodybuilding.com/cgi-bin/perl...ng=en&q=cardio

steam sauna or dry suana?

steam sauna or dry suana?

How many people here sit in the dry/steam sauna 10 minutes or so after your workout? I've heard that the steam sauna is good for your face, such as acne. Anythign wrong with sitting in the sauna after your workout and getting a good sweat on? thanks

no one?

i do both sometimes. they're right next to eachother. i sweat my ass off in the steam room and then chill in the dry sauna for a few minutes before i shower. it's still hot in the dry sauna, but the steam room gets me dripping in sweat within 2 minutes cuz everyone is always pouring water into the steam activator thingies lol. the dry sauna is relaxing as fuck. i wish they had a tv in there with espn, i'd just watch sportscenter every night after lifting and then head home and sleep.

you sweat alot more in a steam sauna. Its freaking great.

Now I have had many manual labor jobs, and they always tell me not to lift with my back. Isnt this exactly what I am doing with a sl dead lift?

That's because they don't understand kinesiology. You don't want to lift with a rounded back, like most people do.

no, your back is never arched the whole way up SL DL is not 'lifitng with your back' the way lifiting boxes is look at the two motions

I always look foreward, but what does that do?

you dont want to lift with your back because most of the things you lift are too big to be fully held in your arms. You have to round the back to hold it close to your body, or straighten your back but hold the object further out from your body. Both of these scenarios produce a lot of unwanted stress

killerZees I always look foreward, but what does that do? pick a spot on the ceiling and keep your head up it keeps your butt down and prevents the back from arching

l-arginine vs AAKG?

l-arginine vs AAKG?

you'll probably notice more energetic effect with less amount of the AAKG since it has both the arginine (more NADH-> ATP) and the akg to help fuel the tca cycle

All The Whey

All The Whey

Anyone tried the vanilla or chocolate flavors? I can get 25 lbs of either flavor for 90 shipped or 10 lbs for like 45 shipped. I'll probably end up getting the 25 lbs in the next day or so, just wondering if I'm gonna have to chug it down while holding my nose or be able to drink it like ON. Also, if you get an unflavored bag/tub or whatever, is it necessary to buy a flavoring system? Could you just mix it with Gatorade or something like that instead?

I have the double chocolate fudge, something like that. I think the majority of people that use ON Whey use or have this. It's all I've used and since I've been happy with it, it's all I will use.

AllTheWhey Chocolate is pretty decent. Its not as strong/rich as some other brands, but it is pretty good. Certainly not offensive. Haven't tried the Vanilla, but every vanilla flavored protein I've ever used tastes like shit.

ill let u know on wednsday, my order just shipped.

ive got vanilla, its ok. I can definetly stomach it, has kind of a "whey" taste to it that other proteins dont really have

Shouldnt I be able to squat more than bench?

Shouldnt I be able to squat more than bench?

I am 5'3" 123 pounds Bench is at 165 And today, first time doing squats, I did 135 x 7....Maybe I coulda put on more but I was alone with no spotter. Being that I repped it 7 times I'm pretty confident I can do three with more weight, but still.... How far away is your guys' squat then bench.

my squat is like 2x my bench edit: i take that back. but it is still alot higher than my bench

You should squat and deadlift a LOT more than you can bench, unless you have freakishly short arms and insanely long legs.

tize 1000 !> 1005 i believe he has squated over 1000

Ah, like I said, it was the first time I did real squats. I usually do them on the machine because I'm a fucking wussy But, godamm I loved it. Squats are like nothing else, total rush thru the body. My legs felt awesome going up. Oh, and I've only been working out since November. christophers - i squat 300+ lb's more than i bench. I can't do anything with 300 pounds ...err, I can do 430 on the legpress IBigetflamedforbeingagirl

200lbs more than my bench

when you first start squatting, it may seem like you are doing close to your max when you arent really. it will probly shoot up within a month as you learn to do the lift better and will suceed your bench.

princess0fdiabl0 when you first start squatting, it may seem like you are doing close to your max when you arent really. it will probly shoot up within a month as you learn to do the lift better and will suceed your bench. That's kinda what I'm hoping

princess0fdiabl0 when you first start squatting, it may seem like you are doing close to your max when you arent really. it will probly shoot up within a month as you learn to do the lift better and will suceed your bench.

I can only squat about 40 lbs more than I bench, but I haven't maxed squat in a while and my heavy triples are increasing dramatically faster than my bench.

tize 1000 !> 1005 He squats more than 1000

tize prove it Yea I'll go ask him if I can take pics of him squatting more than you total Wait like 30 days hes got another meet coming up

tize i dont wait on no body NO MOFUCKIN BODY we talkin bout the past not the future what what Then go read a powerlifting usa or monster muscle something that has the all time SHW rankings in it

I would show you a pic of the total board we have but the only pic I have on my comp cuts out right after his name. My numbers have been meh, I did a 425 box squat the other day that was pretty easy, my raw bench is back to normal, I am not really sure about shirted I don't have a shirt atm. My deadlift is getting better and better I want to pull 585 before I leave for basic

Fabian I am 5'3" 123 pounds Bench is at 165 And today, first time doing squats, I did 135 x 7....Maybe I coulda put on more but I was alone with no spotter. Being that I repped it 7 times I'm pretty confident I can do three with more weight, but still.... How far away is your guys' squat then bench. 165 bench is pretty good at your body weight, but your squat will increase pretty quickly. I'd imagine you'll max out around 205-215.

christophers for all you extremely light guys, no more excuses for light weight moved jennifer maile age: 16 @ time of lifts weight: 103 squat: 363 bench: 220 deadlift: 403.5 YES! I lift more than her... (she weighs half as much as I do )

her socks are cute

tize what u bench nga 365 last time I maxed and I have squatted 425, although I haven't maxed in about 3 months or so and my heavy triples have gone up 20lbs in that time (even with cutting).

christophers for all you extremely light guys, no more excuses for light weight moved jennifer maile age: 16 @ time of lifts weight: 103 squat: 363 bench: 220 deadlift: 403.5 I would have to think shes able to lift that much in part because of amazing genes. Even so though, I am in awe, that is amazing.

tize more importantly: would you hit it? No babyface's sister, no care.

christophers for all you extremely light guys, no more excuses for light weight moved jennifer maile age: 16 @ time of lifts weight: 103 squat: 363 bench: 220 deadlift: 403.5 Id hit it.

tize more importantly: would you hit it? I'd like to see her in a bikini before I make my decision.

My form is possibly whack, but my deadlift is the same as my bench, my squat is cool, but i use the spot machine current:Dead ~ 215 bench ~ 225 Squat ~ 335

Shouldnt I be able to squat more than bench?
