Regularity

How regular are you? What are some foods that are pretty common, with a good deal of fiber in them?

oatmeal

mini wheats

NickStam oatmeal steel cut, or all types?

get some high fiber cereal or some shit, that'll clean you right out.

christophers i get a what crust on my pizzas for some fiber you can do that?

All Bran in the morning, after 3 days you'll be shitting beatifully

i eat a cup of Fiber One each morning, i am still not as regular as i wish to be.

I have never had any problem with not being regular, in the pooping sense of the word

i shat myself in my sleep last night

or overdose on AAKG, that will give you the shits within 10 mins, dont ask how I know...

oatmeal, beans, fruit....

Shredded wheat cereal, reduced fat triscuits, 3 cups/day of raw vegetables, and a FiberCon capsule with my evening shake seem to do the trick for me.

every day.. seems regular enough for me

i got like 1-3x/day.. uncle sam cereal is really good to help you poop

Prunes, natures exlax.

paw paw

fiberone cereal.

At least 2-3 times per day. I do add psyllium to some of my shakes.

Anyone else get headaches after working out?

Anyone else get headaches after working out?

I made a thread about this a while ago, but I can't find it so I'll make a new one. Everytime I work out, I get a headache about an hour or so afterwards. It's not a really bad headache, but being someone who rarely gets headaches, it's annoying. Does this happen to anyone else? FYI: I drink plenty of water before my workout and try to replace exactly how much I lose through sweat. Edit: It doesn't seem to matter how hard I workout. Tonight I ran 1.5 miles at 5.5mph, then did some inclined dumbbell presses with 25lb weights just as a light "getting back into working out" workout. Edit:I've solved my problem It turns out it was nutrition related. Here's what I changed: - I now make sure I eat something 45-60 mintues before my workout; I normally eat a banana and a sandwich. - I eat a banana in the morning - I take a multivitamin - I drink gatorade after my workout (to replace sodium/sugar) - I eat a small meal no later than 60 minutes after my workout followed by another small meal 30-45 minutes later - I make sure to drink a lot of water throughout the day I'm not sure what exactly fixed it, but I don't care. I feel more energized before, during and after my workouts and I feel better in general. I'm still having a head CT scan done just to be safe, but other than that, .

Blood pressure.

Ilyusha Blood pressure. You know...I originally thought the same thing a few months ago, so I took my blood pressure when I started to experience the headaches...122/78 on average.

hootpie You know...I originally thought the same thing a few months ago, so I took my blood pressure when I started to experience the headaches...122/78 on average. Take it before and immediately after your workouts.

Ilyusha Take it before and immediately after your workouts. I'll do that. What should I look for? Normal before and high after? I just took it 3x and I averaged 135/83. Edit: And what should I do to deal with it? Also, thanks for helping me out, these headaches are really starting to bother me.

Also, thanks for helping me out, these headaches are really starting to bother me. Well you should take maybe a 2 week log of pre and post workout readings, as well as off day readings, and take your findings to a doctor (schedule an appt ahead of time, etc.). Make sure you visit a doctor, as this can be just about anything, but blood pressure would be my first guess. If you have a family history of a multitude of things, such as heart problems, kidney problems, migraines, general headaches, etc. it could be a reason for your headaches. So take some readings and go to a doctor and take it from there... By the way, your blood pressure is above normal.

Everyone in my family has high blood pressure, but no heart/kidney problems. Nobody in any part of my family has problems with headaches/migraines. I know it's above normal, which is weird. This is the first time I've taken it and it has been high. The other times I had headaches it was never this high.

Basically every day for 2 weeks, while making sure to mark what time the readings were taken and if you were at the gym or not. A history of high blood pressure can contribute to your elevated blood pressure. I have what is known as white coat hypertension - whenever I have my blood pressure measured at a hospital, it is elevated. Whenever it is measured at home, or anywhere else but a hospital/clinic, it's normal. Pretty lame, but that's the way it is for me..

Whenever it is measured at home, or anywhere else but a hospital/clinic, it's normal. Pretty lame, but that's the way it is for me.. That's totally understandable (the white coat hypertension). I have spoken to my doctor about this and he thinks it's nothing, but I think I'm going to have him order a CT scan of my head and possibly an MRI/MRA (whatever the thing is that looks at the blood vessels within your brain). One thing I have noticed is a vein in my right temple that was either never there, or never noticable before I started working out again a few months ago. I can feel my heartbeat in this vein in my temple all of the time and it pounds really hard while I'm exercising. Maybe I just have increased bloodflow to my head?

my brother had similar things happen to him. He used to run a lot, he did two marathons but ended up with bad headaches afterwards, one time even going to the hospital. Then he started noticing his heart race and headaches after normal everyday runs. Then, he would notice his heart racing doing menial household chores around his house. It took the news of a major league baseball players death in his 30's of a heart attack for him to see a doctor. A couple actually because the first one said everything was fine. It turns out he had a birth defect in his heart where he was born with a small hole between the chambers in the heart. Usually, if they don't catch this within 6 months of birth, it will be a huge problem at about 40 or 50. Because he ran so much and stressed his body, it made the hole bigger and blood was passing through, this meant one half of his heart had to pump harder than the rest and was considerably bigger. Luckily his body is still young and he had to have open heart surgery. The doctors closed up the hole and now he's better than new. Moral of the story, it might not be your head at all.

Wow...I certainly hope that's not the case for me. I'm glad everything turned out ok with him. I'm actually on hold right now waiting to speak with my doctor. I'm going to ask him to have all the necessary tests run.

Anyone else?

I worked out again today (around 5:30pm) for about an hour. I did some shoulder exercises today using the "high weight, low rep" method. I was doing fine for the majority of my workout and never really felt as though I was going to get a headache. I did take one tylenol before the workout, so that might be why. About 3 hours after my workout I started to get a headache again. The headaches are usually preceeded by a pulsating in my head, which lasts from before the headache to well after. I've checked my blood pressure throughout the day and it's been around 130/80 all the time. My doctor is scheduling a CT scan for me, so we can see if there's something going on in my head. I sure hope not .

What helped me with migranes/headaches in general was to drink a lot more water.

kingrukus What helped me with migranes/headaches in general was to drink a lot more water. How much were you drinking and how much more did you add? Right now I drink about 4 water bottles a day (16.9oz each). I'll usually drink one or two in the morning/afternoon, one during my workout (to replace water I lose), and one or two after that.

Whenever I went to a chiropractor for neck problems, I started getting headaches during the workouts. Usually chest workouts or any pushing motion. Somehow it just worked itself out I guess.

hootpie How much were you drinking and how much more did you add? Right now I drink about 4 water bottles a day (16.9oz each). I'll usually drink one or two in the morning/afternoon, one during my workout (to replace water I lose), and one or two after that. I was hardly drinking any water...about 2 500ml bottles a day (1L)...i stepped up to about 8 500ml bottles (4L) and that helped things.

I'll try increasing my water intake on days that I workout because I do tend to sweat a lot. I'll see if that helps. I don't think it's an issue of dehydration because my urine is always clear.

I've been doing a lot of reading and came up with some things that others might find useful (especially if they search for this in the future). Post-exercise headaches are sometimes called "exertional headaches" and can be caused by nothing more than blood pressure rising/intracranial pressure increasing. It can also be caused by a lack of sodium in the body and/or dehydration. Of course, the headaches could also be the sign of something else, so it's always best to consult a physician to be safe. Apparently the best way to fight these types of headaches are to stay hydrated very well and eat within 1 hour after your exercise. It helps to eat something with sodium in it after your workout as well (i.e. crackers). A combination of carbs, sodium, protein and water post-workout is the best. I'm guessing something like tuna-fish spread over saltine crackers would work best. I'm going to try this myself to see if it gets rid of these headaches I've been getting. If not, I'm going to go see a neurologist to make sure nothing is wrong. I'll update this thread for anyone who is interested.

I've solved my problem It turns out it was nutrition related. gaining weight & eating question

Im eating as much as i possibly can. 5 to 6 times a day with snacks and such. I usually feel like i cant move after every meal. I am also eating clean and healthy. Now in the past couple months that i have been eating so much i have gained maybe 5lbs. I know eating is the only way to get bigger, but am i doing something wrong? Any negative effects of eating so much?

btw im about 6-7% bf at 140lbs now, 20yrs old

you are not eating enough

go_duke21 you are not eating enough i feel bad putting so much food in my body as is. I sit and eat as much as my friend who weights 260lbs and eats "a lot"

how tall are you

Opi how tall are you 5'10 - 140lbs skinny but its not that bad

amdspitfire Im eating as much as i possibly can. Don't worry too much about eating clean and healthy, if you want to put on weight just EAT. Try eating foods that are more calorie-dense if you feel like you get full too quickly. Make shakes. You can easily make a 1000 calorie shake and down it in 30 seconds. Most importantly, if what you're doing now isn't working..change what you are doing.

tell us what you eat in a typical day.

MikeTheVike1 tell us what you eat in a typical day. werd...

6-7 bf? Is that accurate or are you estimating?

breakfast usually eggs or cereal or oats, then the rest of the time im always eating sandwhiches or chicken/beef with rice/veggies. Ill have a smoothie like once every other day or so. But the bulk of what i eat is like food i make. Doesnt sound like much but its 5-6 big meals. I easily get 1-2x my body weight in protein from foods i eat.

Socrates 6-7 bf? Is that accurate or are you estimating? I was like 6 point something last time i got checked a few months ago. Im gonna go tomm and get tested again (calipers).

I easily get 1-2x my body weight in protein from foods i eat. that's good but even 2x your BW in protein is only 1100 calories. You say you're eating a lot but you also say you're not gaining. So you're going to have to eat more.

Chris3G that's good but even 2x your BW in protein is only 1100 calories. You say you're eating a lot but you also say you're not gaining. So you're going to have to eat more. could you explain the relation? For instance ill have a cup of orange juice thats 100 callories yet 0 or 1g of protein.

amdspitfire could you explain the relation? For instance ill have a cup of orange juice thats 100 callories yet 0 or 1g of protein. sure, 1g protein = 4 cals, 1g carb = 4 cals, 1g fat = 9 cals the calories in OJ are mostly from carbs.

well radial head actually...and my pinky too. looks like i will be taking an undetermined amount of time off this sucks so bad. i was getting right where i wanted to with everything and now it has to stop. guess its time to concentrate on legs and abs. heres 2 pics of me a few days before it happened...

its all casted up

How?

you were looking good too

ouch? sorry man.

He won't be doing those squats for a long long time, if ever again.

See how big you can get your right arm compared to your left.

Dude, I know how you feel, it sucks. I was making a ton of progress and I broke my hand. I've been doing legs and abs like crazy, but I miss working out the whole body. Acura-is it bad to lift with one arm more than the other?

A few questions... 1. Why can't I bench for shit? In 6 weeks I haven't noticed my flat bench getting better AT ALL I still struggle to do 3 reps of 8 @ 115lbs. My Decline bench press however went up from 3 reps of 8 @ 115lbs to 3 reps of 6 @ 145lbs. Whats the deal? I swear my flat bench has not imporved ONE BIT. While I'm noticing visual results on my chest my flatbench still sucks. I have a workout partener too, we pretty much eat the same after work out meal, do the same excersizes and yet... He can flat bench more than I can while Every other excersize we do, I can do more and more than him each week. Wtf is wrong with me? 2. Is milk a good after work out thing to drink? I usually get beef jerkey from the convience store on my way home. Then I drink 33gs of protien worth of milk. There's not that much food available to me So I just usually go for some microwavable food with a decent ammount of protien and a lot of milk. Is that ok?

reps = repetitions, thats when you push it up one time. sets = a set of repetitions. i think you mean you're doing 3 sets of 8 reps @ 115 lbs. just so you know and from what i understand, milk is one of the shitty forms of protein, your best bet would be eggs, whey, red meat, fish.

Your routine probably blows and from what it sounds, your diet is shit. If you are serious about it, I would read up on some stickies and just stay consistent.

ryazbeck and from what i understand, milk is one of the shitty forms of protein How is milk a "shitty" form of protein? You do know that whey is derived from milk.

Your decline bench may be more because you're doing fewer reps to a set. You don't have to do 8 reps to be going up in weight. Try putting more weight on the flat bench and aiming for 3-5 reps.

The key to a strong bench is strong triceps

Elfling Your decline bench may be more because you're doing fewer reps to a set. You don't have to do 8 reps to be going up in weight. Try putting more weight on the flat bench and aiming for 3-5 reps. noo i dont think so cuz i can do 3 sets of 8 easy as hell on 115 even 135 when i do decline bench press. i cant do 4-6 reps @ 135 on flat bench. even 6 reps of 115 is a work out. And I dont think its my tricepts because my tricepts are pretty strong compared to most average people (i still consider my self average)

vhalin noo i dont think so cuz i can do 3 sets of 8 easy as hell on 115 even 135 when i do decline bench press. i cant do 4-6 reps @ 135 on flat bench. even 6 reps of 115 is a work out. And I dont think its my tricepts because my tricepts are pretty strong compared to most average people (i still consider my self average) you've only been working out for 6 weeks so i'm gonna have to go out on a limb here and say that your triceps probably aren't that much stronger than most average people. i'd take the advice that was given above and try to decrease the number of reps and gradually up the weight. also, if you can, get a spotter and have them help you. put 135 on the bar and have them help you with the last 2 or 3 reps so that you're struggling like hell to get it up with their assistance. you also might be rushing yourself. try and take a longer break between sets if you notice that you're going too quickly.

because you're going into the gym on chest day expecting the weight you can do to magically go up. If day after day you are doing 3 x 8 x 115...then that is what you are always going to be able to do. You need to push yourself harder...put more more weight on the bar and do as much as you can. next time you go, put some 5's on each side and do 125. get as many reps as you can. you have to force your body to get stronger, it's not going to just happen.

Fail and cheat on some reps at higher weights and u'll be repping that. Sense you have a partner let him help you by spotting and put some bigger weights on. DOn't worry about failing because your muscles will get stronger.

ryazbeck and from what i understand, milk is one of the shitty forms of protein, your best bet would be eggs, whey, red meat, fish. milk protein = good

what is your routine? you might want to switch it up with dips, db bench, etc

Shaolin_sword36 what is your routine? you might want to switch it up with dips, db bench, etc beginners should stick with the same exercises for awhile

from what i understand, you dont want much fat at all post workout, and milk and beef jerky have alot of fat, unless the milk is skin.
